Scott says Crist will be Castro ‘puppet’ if he visits Cuba

GREENACRES — Gov. Rick Scott and Lt. Gov. Carlos Lopez-Cantera blasted Democrat Charlie Crist for considering a trip to Cuba this summer.

“It’s sort of laughable. He’s going to go down there and help promote the Castro regime,” Scott told reporters after a campaign appearance at AutoNation Chevrolet to promote cuts in motor vehicle fees and other taxes.

“He’s just going to be a puppet for the Castro regime and every dollar he spends down there is going to help them oppress their people,” Scott said.

Crist’s interest in visiting the communist island was first reported by The Tampa Bay Times.

“The embargo has done nothing in fifty years to change the regime in Cuba or end the suffering of the Cuban people,” Crist campaign spokesman Kevin Cate said. “Gov. Crist is exploring every opportunity to help bring economic freedom and democracy to the people of Cuba.”

Lopez-Cantera said his family “lost everything” after Castro came to power and his grandmother’s brothers were imprisoned by Castro.

“Charlie’s been a Republican and an independent and a Democrat,” Lopez-Cantera said. “I don’t know, maybe he’s going down there to explore becoming a communist.”

Crist already has lots of experience being a puppet.

Scott is the poster boy for how to run a medicare fraud scam. Scott is the puppet for the insurance industry; homeowners as well as auto.

  5. Suria Says:

Crist is an opportunist who left the state of Florida with a huge deficit. He screwed up my Home Insurance with Citizens. If I recalled, he made a joke with “cash for clunkers” sending me an American Express gift card, instead of money to help me pay for a GE refrigerator purchased on Brandsmart. I am not fan of Scott, but he has improved the economy with a surplus and lowered taxes. Crist raised student tuition. I have a memory!

  6. Another Day in Paradise Says:

The idea that Rick Scott would call anyone a puppet is laughable. I can’t wait until I don’t have to see him or his insane commercials (like the one saying Crist ran away – hello Rick, term limits, so he ran for Senate. We would have loved to keep him as Gov, especially instead of YOU!!!)

  7. Carly Says:

Charlie in Cuba. Think of it. Offering what? He holds no office. Who does he tell the Cuban people he is? A person running for office and maybe he will win and maybe not. What’s his leverage? Will this be part of his “resume” when running for Gov…he went to Cuba, blah, blah. Will the Cuban Americans in the State of Florida believe that spin? And so it goes……

  8. Sue Says:

Oh Scotty are you kidding…calling someone a puppet when you are a clown and a liar….The good people of Florida will see through your poor me t.v. ads and send you packing…I hear Cuba is nice this time of year…So long…

  9. chris Says:

Scott, all the pubic employees will never forget what you did to our retirement.we will all be there to vote against you.

  10. Joe Kreps Says:

Scott and Crist are both corrupt. Throw the bums out.

  11. Joe Says:

The current policy which has been in place for 50 years now has not accomplished anything. It’s time for a change in that failed policy and create an economic boom for Florida. Most of the Cubans who lost their property to Castro in the 60’s have either died off or live in nursing homes and the attitude of their children is completely different. What better way to bring changes in Cuba’s political structure than to offer a better life to its inhabitants by opening up trade to the USA. Most Cuban people are hard working, intelligent and creative. By the way, can somebody tell me why Lopez-Cantera always looks so pissed off? Maybe it’s Rick Scotts hand up his butt.

  12. Florida Mom Says:

As the Washington Post documented today, Rick Scott has a lot of nerve calling anyone else a puppet. His ties to Sheldon Adelson go well beyond casual acquaintance – he is bought, paid for, and owned by Mr. Adelson. It’s the hypocrisy that’s galling.

  13. nemo Says:

Crist has been a republican, he’s been a democrat, but he is always a liar.

  14. No puppet Says:

Scott is no puppet. A puppet implies he is being manipulated by others. He is not being manipulated. He knows exactly what he is doing. He knows in his cold dark soulless heart what he is doing. Making money for himself and his cohorts at the expense of others. And we elected him…

  15. luckysnap Says:

    Crist is an Obama puppet!
