Ted Cruz glad Ted Nugent apologized but accuses media of ‘double standard’ on offensive remarksby George Bennett | February 21st, 2014
PALM BEACH — Texas Sen. Ted Cruz says he’s glad that rocker and fellow Texas conservative Ted Nugent has apologized for calling President Barack Obama a “subhuman mongrel.”
Nugent’s remarks sparked political controversy in the Lone Star state because he has appeared on the campaign trail with Republican gubernatorial candidate Greg Abbott.
“I’m glad he apologized. What he said I wouldn’t have said, I don’t agree with it,” Cruz said tonight after speaking at a Palm Beach County GOP fundraiser and being asked by a reporter about Nugent.
“I do think the media plays an interesting double standard in that President Obama loves to have Hollywood celebrities, to have Jay-Z, invite him to the White House, and I don’t recall once the media asking President Obama about misogynist rap lyrics, about offensive and extreme things his Hollywood friends have said, so I do think there’s a media double standard in play. But I’m glad Ted Nugent apologized. He shouldn’t have said what he said.”
