Hillary Clinton fan Alcee Hastings says Jeb Bush would be ‘formidable’ 2016 foe

by George Bennett | February 7th, 2014

Rep. Alcee Hastings is among Dems getting early seats on the Hillary Clinton 2016 bandwagon.

Another Clinton-Bush presidential race?

U.S. Rep. Alcee Hastings, D-Miramar, thinks it’s a good possibility.

Hastings, who backed Hillary Clinton over Barack Obama in the 2008 Democratic primaries, is among at least 42 House Democrats who have already declared their support for Clinton if she runs for president in 2016. Chatting with PostOnPolitics.com this morning, the 12-term Democrat said a 2016 race between Clinton and former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush would be decided by a “razor-thin” margin. He didn’t predict who’d win.

“The Democrats’ nightmare can be Jeb Bush. And the reason that I say that is that Jeb would appeal to a large set of the fastest growing demographic in America, and that is those who share the Spanish language,” Hastings said.

“Jeb, in addition to being formidable in the Hispanic community, would also be formidable in Florida and Florida is one of those states that is in that must-win category,” Hastings said.

A Bush or Clinton has run for president in seven of the last nine elections, including the 1992 race in which Bill Clinton defeated President George H.W. Bush.

“To dispense with the notion of, ‘Oh, well, we’ve had too much of the Bushes and too much of the Clintons,’ I say experience counts,” Hastings said. “We don’t need anybody that is going to have to learn on the job.”

  2. Rick Scott is thief Says:

ALCEE HASTINGS IS A CROOK who was convicted and removed from the Federal Bench as a Judge by the US House of Representatives – 1 of only 3 in our entire history – why ?
He was accepting bribes – he has a gerrymandered black district that allows him to be re-elected even though he has done nothing for anyone in the district – this man is UNFIT FOR OFFICE!!!

  3. Kiss of Death Says:

The only thing worse than a political endorsement from Alcee Hastings is a case of bubonic plague.

  4. jebamoni4 Says:

I agree completely on the opinions of all three people ahead of you He has done nothing to the district. He was the first to vote for giving away the money to Corporate Banks. I am a hard core democrat and I am given no choice in all these elections.
Jeb Bush is sneaky and he will cite anything to gather votes.

  5. Carol Says:

Mr. Hastings is a convicted felon. Why do people keep re-electing him? I think it’s because he wears very expensive custom-made and custom-fitted suits.

  6. ring around the rosy Says:

read the above comments slowly and then weep

  7. whynott Says:

Alcee Hastings belongs with Hillary. She lied about Benghazi and he was indicted by congress and removed from the federal bench as a judge. This is the kind of person that will back Hillary.Dems like liars and convicted felons.

  8. Jeff Ward Says:

Alcee Hastings is no felon. He was acqitted by a fedearal jury. I have met both Alcee and Jeb Bush on several occasions and find both among the most personable politicians I have met over the years. Alcee is politically astute, except in the case of backing Hillary against Obama. His opinion at that time was that the U S was not ready for an African American President. I am sure it also was because he was a friend of both Clintons. I support and vote for politicians I respect irrespective of party and have been a contributer to previous campaigns of both Alcee and Jeb.

  9. Tom Says:

Jeb Bush would be a good candidate for the Republicans, but that party is now split between reasonable people like Jeb Bush and the Teas and right wingers. Hillary will win in 2016.
