Wasserman Schultz to follow Christie-Scott money trail in Floridaby George Bennett | January 15th, 2014
With New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie slated to appear at fundraisers in Florida this weekend with Gov. Rick Scott , Democratic National Committee Chairwoman and Broward County U.S. Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz plans to trail the duo and lob some attacks.
Christie, the head of the Republican Governors Association and a potential 2016 presidential candidate, is scheduled to appear with Scott at Saturday events in Orlando, Palm Beach and Fort Lauderdale.
It’s Christie’s first major foray out of the Garden State since news broke that some of his top aides conspired to create traffic problems in Fort Lee, N.J., to exact political revenge on the city’s Democratic mayor. Christie has said he was “blindsided” by the scandal and fired to top aide in response.
A DNC official said details are still being worked out, but Wasserman Schultz plans to travel to one or more of the fundraising sites to draw media attention and paint Christie and Scott as “scandal-plagued.”
“Of course she is, because the Obama administration has absolutely no positive thing to talk about,” countered Republican Party of Florida spokeswoman Susan Hepworth. She said the GOP is “glad to have the RGA chairman coming down to do some events to benefit the RGA and Rick Scott’s campaign.”
