December money chase: Scott committee tops $1 million; Jerry Springer helps Crist top $700kby George Bennett | January 2nd, 2014
A committee supporting Republican Gov. Rick Scott‘s re-election raised at least $1 million in December while a committee backing his likely Democratic challenger, former Republican Gov. Charlie Crist, snagged at least $727,700 during the month.
The committees must report contributions online within five days of receiving them, so additional December money could be reported until Sunday. An official filing with the Florida Division of Elections is due Jan. 10.
Scott’s Let’s Get To Work committee, which has raised more than $25 million since 2010 and collected $5.3 million in November, raised a little more than $1 million between Dec. 2 and Dec. 17, according to the committee’s website. The committee spent about $300,000 during the month, including $86,000 for a poll and $119,536 to consultants On Message Inc.
The Charlie Crist For Florida committee, which debuted in November and raised $2.2 million that month, reported $727,700 in December contributions as of this morning. The committee’s haul included a $10,000 check logged Tuesday from TV host Jerry Springer and $50,000 from Palm Beach philanthropist and Slim-Fast founder S. Daniel Abraham.
