Ted Cruz coming to Trump’s club to raise money for Palm Beach County GOP

by George Bennett | November 29th, 2013

Texas Sen. Ted Cruz talks to reporters at the Americans For Prosperity conference in Orlando in August.

Texas Sen. and potential 2016 Republican presidential candidate Ted Cruz will be the keynote speaker for the Palm Beach County Republican Party’s Lincoln Day fundraising dinner on Feb. 21 at Donald Trump‘s Mar-A-Lago in Palm Beach.

White House aspirants aren’t a new phenomenon for Palm Beach County GOP dinners. Newt Gingrich headlined the 2011 Lincoln Day dinner as he prepared to launch his candidacy. When Herman Cain was at his polling peak in the fall of 2011, the county GOP booked him for its January 2012 dinner; Cain left the race and Gingrich pinch-hit for him the weekend before the state’s presidential primary.

New county GOP Chairwoman Anita Mitchell said a committee headed by Vice Chairman Michael Barnett was working on landing Cruz before she took office Nov. 13. In addition to Cruz, American Conservative Union Chairman Al Cardenas, a former head of the Republican Party of Florida, will attend the Palm Beach County dinner and serve as emcee, Mitchell said.
