Who brings a voter registration application to a White House reception? Charlie Crist explains

by George Bennett | December 10th, 2012

While attending a reception at the White House on Friday, former Gov. Charlie Crist and wife Carole display form that will complete Crist's switch to the Democratic Party. Crist sent the picture to his Twitter followers.

Former Republican Gov. Charlie Crist‘s switch to the Democratic Party raises two immediate questions:

1. Will he run for governor in 2014?

2. What was he doing with a Florida Voter Registration Application form at a White House holiday reception on Friday night?

Responding this morning to the question about running in 2014, Crist said: “I’m considering it and (wife) Carole and I will talk about it over the holidays and seek advice from our fellow Floridians.”

Crist also explained how he ended up sending a picture to his Twitter followers Friday night that shows him holding a signed voter registration form with the caption “Proud and honored to join the Democratic Party in the home of President @BarackObama!”

Crist has obviously been pondering a switch to the Democratic Party for months. While in Washington last week to attend a holiday reception at the White House, Crist said he decided the time was right to complete his journey from the GOP to no party affiliation to the Democratic Party.

“I thought I’d like to do this and I’d like to do it at the White House, but I didn’t have the form,” Crist said. So he said he went to the business center at his hotel in Washington and printed out an application from the Pinellas County elections website, then brought it to the White House.

Crist said he signed the application on a music stand that was being used by the United States Marine Band, which was playing at the reception.

Crist said that when he told Obama the news, the president reacted with a fist pump.

Crist said he hasn’t actually submitted the form to the elections office, but plans to do so soon.

“I’ve got to turn it in when I get to St. Pete,” Crist said today. “I could mail it in, but I’d rather take it in in person.”

Run Charlie, Run….get Criminal Scott out of Tallahassee and lets get some sanity and sense back in the State House.

  2. FormerNYer Says:

Charlie, please run — we need you back and we need to get rid of the criminal currently in Tallahassee.

  3. Question to ask... Says:

It was his way of letting everyone know he was invited to the WH

  4. FL_Independent Says:

It goes to show exactly how desperate the Dems are when they have truly qualified candidates waiting in the wings. Did we forget that Alex Sink only lost to Scott by the smallest of margins? Why back a candidate with so much baggage like him?

  5. Tom Says:

We need Charlie in the governor’s seat in Tallahassee. Enough with the rightwing wackos.

  6. Koch Brother Says:

if the election were today, Crist would get 65% of the vote. Scott is HATED by Repubs as well as Dems. He does have the redneck male vote.

  7. MimiB Says:

I think Charlie Crist would make an excellent candidate. The Republican party has been utterly corrupted by the backwards thinking tea partiers in the past few years, which is too bad. Obviously, Crist found he could no longer support the Republican agenda. I know I can’t. I felt insulted by the Republican party, even though I tend to be rather conservative, fiscally speaking, I just cannot accept the Republican war on women, gays, Latinos, social security, labor, the middle class and social progressivism.

  8. Irv Says:

I hope Crist runs so I can vote against him. Since Gov Scott has been in office my property taxes are much less…and he reduced the state’s deficit by TWO BILLION DOLLARS….

    Run Christ Run.

Run away Christ! You damn homo. Suck a dong.

  11. Elle Says:

YES. Best news ever. Charlie in, crook out.

  12. Repubtallygirl Says:

Of course the Dems welcome him with open arms. Just look how much they forgave Bill. He committed perjury, he cheated on wife, he abused young interns, and he lost his law license.

Crist is a political opportunist. And no, Scott is NOT hated by Republicans. He is doing a fantastic job cleaning up the mess Crist created.

It will be a joy to vote against him once again if he wins in a primary.

  13. No To Charlie Crist Says:

Charlie Crist is the Governor who put John Textor and his Digital Domain on a fast track to $20 million dollars of tax payers money by intentionally bypassing the process for businesses to access tax payers money, even with a well documented history of failures of the company. State Representatives Carl Domino and Jennifer Carrol called for an investigation of Mr. Textor so easily getting $20 million dollars which should have been a red flag for Crist and anyone else but short cuts were still taken by Crist to grant Textor the millions. It’s not like Crist wasn’t aware of the shady past of this applicant. Another failure goes into the Digital Domain archives and tax payers of Florida are out of roughly $125 million dollars. A disingenuous act often mean’s there’s more where that came from. It would be good for voters to remember and not vote for Mr.Crist.

  14. M Says:

I will vote for Charlie no matter what party he is affiliated with!

  15. Question to ask... Says:

The campaign would be interesting- Scott comparing the state today vs. the state under Crist – lower unemployment, smaller government, etc etc etc…

Not saying it would work, but sure would be interesting to see what would come from both camps…

  16. Howard Says:

Scott rocks…Crist is a Romney..will say anything to advance..he might come out of the closet if it is shown that would give him an advantage

  17. RENEGADE Says:

You better go check your facts there little girl because they are BS!!!

    1. Clinton was found not Guilty by the Senate when he was charged with perjury!!

    2. He did not abuse anyone a little slut thought she could get special treatment by coming on to Bill. When she didn’t get the job she wanted she then went to the media.

    3. Bill Clinton never lost his law license!!

  19. Howard Says:

check YOUR facts. Renegade.Bill Clinton did indeed lose his law licence as well as he should. It’s possible after a number of years it was reinstated. Lying under oath is a crime for everyone…even those who take advantage of nieve young interns. Talk about a war on women. sheesh..

  21. Repubtallygirl Says:

@RENEGADE How does it feel to be sheep?? (and one that does not know the facts either??)

    Thanks for the link @Howard!

  22. Ted the Nimble Says:

Christ is worthless. He is a liberal. And everyone knows liberalism doesn’t work. Spend Spend Spend…Tax the rich to pay for it, even though its still is not even a drop to cover it. When will you people learn! Nothing is for free. Libbys dont like Scott because he cuts spending. To them that is horrible. Oh yeah and he doesnt approve of baby killing. BTW Billy C is a libby role model.

  23. Ted the Nimble Says:

Libs hate Scott and call him criminal because he runs the state like a business. He gets results, leads, makes unpopular decisions, and is successful. To a lib, being successful is a crime because they believe their comrades (laborers) were ultimately responsible for the hard work. Conservatives…stand up to these libby leftist socialist creeps or we will be the next France, Spain, Italy etc…

Thanks for your publiction. Another item is that being a photographer requires not only difficulty in catching award-winning photographs but in addition hardships in establishing the best photographic camera suited to your requirements and most especially issues in maintaining the grade of your camera. This really is very genuine and apparent for those photography enthusiasts that are straight into capturing the actual nature’s engaging scenes : the mountains, the forests, the wild and the seas. Visiting these daring places absolutely requires a photographic camera that can live up to the wild’s severe settings.
