Another Palm Beach County politician has a brush with the law…

by George Bennett | December 31st, 2012

Riviera Beach city council candidate Lacey Byrd has decided to end her campaign after landing in the Palm Beach County Jail on a domestic battery charge over the weekend.

Here’s our Alexandra Seltzer‘s report on the details.

Byrd’s arrest comes at the end of a year which also saw Boynton Beach Mayor Jose Rodriguez arrested on corruption charges and suspended from office in January. Rodriguez has pleaded not guilty.

Former South Palm Beach Mayor Marty Millar also visited the county jail in 2012 after being arrested on a domestic battery charge. He has pleaded not guilty.

Palm Beach County acquired the nickname “Corruption County” after two West Palm Beach city commissioners and four county commissioners were incarcerated for various misdeeds a few years back. But the county achieved a milestone of sorts in 2012 — it was the first year since 2006 in which no former county commissioners spent time behind bars.
