Longtime county GOP Chairman Sid Dinerstein won’t seek reelection

by George Bennett | November 8th, 2012

Dinerstein

Longtime Palm Beach County Republican Party Chairman Sid Dinerstein said today that he will step aside in December after 10 years.

Dinerstein has been elected to five consecutive two-year terms as head of the county GOP. His current term ends in December.

“It’s been 10 years and it’s a volunteer job and my wife and I have given up a lot of things so that I could do this. This is a discussion that went on over many months and it has absolutely nothing to with the outcome of the election,” Dinerstein said.

In a county where Democrats hold a registration advantage over Republicans of about 16 percentage points, Dinerstein has played the role of happy warrior, championing Republican positions and long-shot candidates.

But Dinerstein had an uncharacteristically pessimistic take on President Barack Obama’s reelection Tuesday.

In an e-mail to county Republicans Wednesday titled “The Death of Heroism,” Dinerstein concluded: “It is hard to see a future for Conservatism. It does not exist in Europe, or California. It is no longer welcome in America. The Republican Party will have to take a good look in the mirror and decide what, if any, future it has. For that I make this declaration: ‘We will not settle in to become the tax collectors for an Obamanation.’ “

  1. Jerry Says:

One thing that Sid receives little credit for. As chairman of the Palm Tran Service Board for several years, he led a move to revamp bus routes so they would operate more efficiently. Without his leadership during these times of growth, Palm Tran wouldn’t be where it is today.

  2. 21stCenturySchizoidMan Says:

SeeeeeeeeYa Sid! Here’s a tissue. I hope your Republicans learned their lesson, this time. The so-called “conservative” party got in bed with wing-nut radicals, and this is the offspring. And stop blaming Obama, ’cause you and I and everybody knows its your own fault. Sometimes, I wish Obama had lost, so we’d REALLY have a disaster to blame on the new GOP president. Just kidding!

  3. DDW Says:

I won’t go there with half empty bus seats on palm tram, but I will say this. Sid, don’t go away mad, just go away and take Mr.West with you on the journey to where ever it may take you out of the state of Florida.
    Good Bye to you both.

  4. Brian Says:

While the disappointment is understandable, as one watched Sid’s diatribe on election night, he succeeded in giving the perfect illustration of why the GOP lost.

  5. lowell levine Says:

The PBC Republican Party needs new leadership–A strong personal person who can communicate with the residents of the County. A good listener with courtesy skills as well as one who can reach out to Woman -Latinos-Hispanics-Blacks -Asians.A strong sensible leader who understands the value of Public Education since PBC is the 11th largest School District in the Country with 177,000 students.A person who will not sue candidates or fight all the time with the Democrats

  6. fairandbalanced Says:

Sid Dinnerstein will be sorely missed. I certainly can’t blame him. His words: “The American people could not have been clearer. From New Hampshire to California, through the industrial heartland of Pennsylvania, Ohio and Michigan, American Exceptionalism, Rugged Individualism, Entrepreneurship and Citizenship have finally been put to rest. The Welfare State is now permanent. The rejected model of “save and invest” has given way to the contemporary model of “tax, borrow and spend.”

  7. Pete Says:

To all of you gloating, like the Schizoid Man, take note. Obama received 50 percent of the popular vote. That means the other half of the country can’t stand him. Think that’s a mandate? Take a few minutes and really analyze the numbers. Obama received more than 3 million fewer votes than 4 years ago.

  8. New Leadership Says:

The Palm Beach County Republican Party needs new, youthful, tough, intelligent leadership that can bring new Republicans on board by explaining why fiscal conservatism is good for EVERYONE. And of course a Republican leader that is willing to say that Susan Bucher suppresses GOP votes and is incompetent, not that she’s “doing a good job” when she can’t even get the votes counted.

  9. common sense prevails Says:

Nice to see the GOP party in FL has finished their Ham on Rye experiment. Did they actually think would garner the Jewish vote? The teaparty darlings of 2 years ago got obliterated in the PBC elections. Bogdanoff, Hasner, and West and their politics of hate and divisiveness were rejected.

  10. The Truth Hurts Says:

@fairandbalanced-FYI, your boy West is and has been on the public dole for some time now. He receives a full pension and VA health benefits because he resigned quietly instead of making the Army try, convict and jail him for at least 11 years for violation of the Geneva Convention for torture. Sid Dinerstein is a dinosaur, and needs to be replaced by someone who lives in the 21st century and is willing to work with the opposing party.

  11. Chris Mann Says:

Welfareism is the new America. Why educate and work when you can just get people to pass laws that allow you to mooch off of others? As the number of minority voters in America grows the problem is only going to continue to get worse.

  12. The Truth Hurts Says:

@Pete-Such hate and contempt! Obama won: Get over it. Who cares by how much? The only reason people ‘can’t stand him’ is because of the color of his skin. Democrats don’t see color, we see people. The Republicans would do well to do the same.

  13. The Truth Hurts Says:

@Chris Mann-FYI, the number of new jobs has risen for the past 33 months under President Obama and the unemployment rate is down. You can thank Governor Scott for less than 50,000 of the 700,000 jobs he was supposed to create in Florida during his term. Your party, views & way of thinking is a thing of the past. If you don’t like the way America is moving forward and changing, I suggest you give Haiti or Cuba a try.

  14. New Leadership Says:

Following the Democrats, Haiti and Cuba are coming here. Why move?

  15. Natrone Says:

the government better keep giving me my benefits—I’m tired of the rich people getting all the money around here.

  16. MiamiAl Says:

Sid was just caught up in the disappointment of the moment when he said those things…He knows that the
party of Lincoln and Reagan still offers the only proven methods for how the country should be governed. What the GOP just has to wait for the the collapse of Europe, which will happen very soon. The European/Socialist model has proven time and again not to work. The same will be true here. Collapse is eminent! GOP will be back strong soon enough. Do you honestly think the most successful party in US history was just going to disappear? Sid has done a great job as head of the party in Palm Beach County. Sid is a true gentleman, and will be missed. Hopefully he will continue to give his input in shaping the party for the future!

  17. Cubano Says:

For all you Democrats that want to destroy this country, get ready for it. I am sure you will regret giving Obama a second term just like many people regretted giving Bush a second term. Like Obama said “The best is yet to come”. Over 10% unemployment, 25 Trillion dollar deficit, Iranian Nukes, and probably the worst terror attack ever in this country. Our enemies know this country is weak. We vote to get government scraps instead of American principles and values.

  18. SID NEEDS TO GO Says:

He heard our plea! We need a dynamic visionary. We got slaughtered in this election cycle. there are many up and coming local elected officials that must be courted for higher office.

  19. greg Says:

i have to laugh at comments like “party of lincoln”. lincoln and the republicans of the 1860′s were liberal. do you honestly think conservatives would have freed the slaves? the democrats were the conservatives. that is why lincoln chose johnson, a southern conservative for his running mate in 1864. after lincoln, no southerner would be a republican until civil rights reform….then they quickly switched….

  20. HATE Says:

Republicans are finished… especially in PBC! You’re out-flanked, out-maned, and definetely out-matched. We own you, you greedy, evil, lilly white devils!!! Go cry in your mansions or at your silly country clubs, or on your boats, or on a hunting trip… We Wonderfully, Brilliant, and Patriotic Democrats are in FULL COMMAN now… and we’re not looking back… only FORWARD!!!!

  21. ABOUT TIME Says:

Sid, is out of touch with today’s evolving republicans… while he was a dedicated leader and was always at every banquet… he failed to grow and expand the beliefs of the party.

  22. Firstdown Says:

With the dismal results, the GOP needs somone dynamic to head the party in PBC. As to the election, you get what you pay for. Soon everyone will be a benficiary and no one will be working. Achievement, performance and results no longer matter. Tell that to your employees, tell that to your students, tell that to your children. Why should I work, or try hard? Just whine and complain about the unfair playing field. Well, the fools got their wish! Obama will be gone in 4 years but, sadly, the 59 milllion people who voted for this freebee-giver, will still be with us!!

  23. New Leadership Says:

@Hate. Yes, Foward… The slogan of the Communist Party USA.

  24. Gary Says:

To “The Truth Hurts” — thanks for bringing a little humor to the day. For the first time in a couple of days I acutally laughed out loud at your claim that “Democrats don’t see color, we see people.” Are you kidding me? Color is just about the only thing you see. YOU are the one who introduced race into this particular discussion. That’s what you do. That’s all you do.

And you accuse others of racism? What a buffoon.

Yes, you won. That means you’ll get the opportunity to try your plan to borrow and spend our way out of debt. But it doesn’t mean you can continue to call everybody who disagrees with you racist. This kind of crap has to stop, you hypocritical jerk. Win or lose, I for one am sick of it.

  25. Florida Legislator Says:

Sad to see some republicans didn’t get the message. We NEED a Republican Party that is TRUE to its ideals of a smaller government. The GOP has claimed it for many years, but in its actions it was doing the exact opposite. It blamed Obama for a debt that is partly theirs as well. If you SAY you want a smaller government, then DO IT. Both Democrats and Republicans are more concerned about their corporate donors than to do the right thing for the people of this country. People would be happy to pay their taxes if they didn’t feel that their hard-earned money is going to enrich the friends of our elected officials.

  26. One of the 47% Says:

You won’t be missed. Good bye and sorry you couldn’t see the forest for the trees.

  27. luckydog Says:

Well democrats you got what you asked for:
More spending, higher deficits, more illegal immigrants, more muslims, more unemployment, more guns sold, more taxes, more welfare, more waste and Chicago style corruption, more presidential vacations, more third world conditions and less freedom.
    Your grandchildren will hate you.

  28. kelly Says:

Why don’t all you haters get on board and help do what’s right for the country, not just your party. The election is over, Obama won by a sizable margin and we have big problems to solve. Otherwise, get out of the way.

  29. Brian O'Donaghey Says:

Today’s FOX Business article listed the 10 Most (and Least) Educated states. Curiously, the 10 Most Educated States voted a majority for Obama, and the 10 Least Educated states (with 1 exception – Nevada) voted for Romney. To Republicans — any comment on possible correlation between these results?

  32. Marathon Runner Tracker Says:

Thanks for the article and hope to read from you again. Two things I like about the post, one it is straight forward and two it does not attempt to promote anyone’s position particularly. Nice work George.

  33. OhStop Says:

B’bye Sid. Another RINO bites the dust.
