PAC funded by Democrat Patrick Murphy’s father airs pre-primary TV spot

by George Bennett | August 7th, 2012

American Sunrise, a PAC financed with $250,000 from Democratic congressional candidate Patrick Murphy‘s father, is airing a TV ad that praises Murphy as a “problem solver” in his bid to unseat U.S. Rep. Allen West, R-Palm Beach Gardens.

American Sunrise is spending $52,802 through next Tuesday’s Democratic primary to run the ad, according to Federal Election Commission filings. The PAC has spent $118,578 so far to boost Murphy’s campaign.

Thomas Murphy Jr., the CEO of Miami-based Coastal Construction Group, contributed $250,000 to American Sunrise in May. Patrick Murphy is a vice president with the family business, heading Coastal Environmental Services.

Murphy has national Democratic backing in his bid to unseat West, but he first faces businessman Jim Horn and retired firefighter Jerry Buechler in next week’s Democratic primary for congressional District 18. The ad doesn’t mention the primary or West.

  1. Fairandbalanced Says:

So Patrick Murphy’s father is is contributing .25 million dollars to support his son’s campaign. This must be the same father than bailed his son, Patrick out of jail in 2003 when Patrick was arrested for drunk and disorderly conduct and possession of a fraudulent ID. The same father that gave his son a VP title in his large construction business at the age of 27. Hmmm… let’s see, who’s running here, the son or the father?

  2. Mary Ann Russell Says:

Here is a young man who from all appearances has had much of what he has accomplished handed to him. Not exactly the experience I am looking for in a candidate.

  3. HankS Says:

Patrick Murphy always knew he would be eventually working for his father’s company. Murphy was a registered Republican, but suddenly turned Democrat. No political experience to date. There’s no contest, support and vote for Allen West.

  4. Daddy's rich Says:

Vote for someone who actually worked for a living…the retired firefighter
Buechler, not someone born with a silver spoon in his mouth and whose campaign is being financed by his rich daddy.

The first clue about Murphy was switching political parties and then moving several times to different district to run.

Talk about carpetbaggin. How does one move about and still work…oh, yeah, be employed by your father who funds salary and the campaign.

    NO to Murphy!

  5. Floridagirl7 Says:

Lets see, he is 29 years old he joined his fathers business and old dad gave him a job as VP. He is a leader alright. but I certainly would not want him leading me any where. rich daddy pampered kid. He has no experience in nothing. any one that votes for him must have rocks in their head. He has not even been a comunity organizer.

  6. ok..... Says:

His father contributed heavily to the democrats in the area in order to get their support for sonny boy. In the meantime, he is poised to capitalize on the name “Patrick Murphy” — you know there are other much more accomplished Patrick Murphy’s around — especially the former congressman from Penn. This Parick Murphy, “OUR” Murphy is a pretender. He pretends to be a businessman, he pretends to be a politician, he pretends to be ________. If he wanted to be a fireman, Daddy would buy him a big shiny red truck. If he wanted to be a lady, he would buy him a wig. As it is he wants to be in congress, sowithout any experience, Poppi will move forward on trying to buy him a seat.

  7. tornado Says:

I wouldn’t vote for Murphy if he was the only candidate on the ballot.

GOING WEST is the only way for me.

    Voting for the LTC

  8. safe2say Says:

Patrick is a young man that has worked very hard to win the respect of many, at a very young age (almost sounds like Paul Ryan)!

Not the same old career politician what a fresh change!

Who keeps running away? Gotta chase those bad guys to the north or WEST!

Criminal in this country to be wealthy and to support your child – what message is this sending our children?

How many jobs are created as the direct of his father, but pursuing the “American Dream” is not so American in your eyes!

    GO PATRICK MURPHY!!!!!!!!
