Dem pollster calls Nelson-Mack Senate race ‘up for grabs’by George Bennett | August 1st, 2012
A new survey by the Democratic firm Public Policy Polling shows a virtual dead heat between Democratic Sen. Bill Nelson and likely Republican challenger Connie Mack.
Nelson holds a 45-to-43 percent lead in a poll that has a 3.3 percent margin of error. Independent voters favor Mack by a 45-to-38 percent margin in the poll.
The poll shows Nelson has a 40 percent job disapproval rating, with 35 percent approving. Mack — who faces an Aug. 14 primary against underdogs Dave Weldon, Mike McCalister and Marielena Stuart — has his own problems with voters, with 25 percent viewing him favorably and 35 percent unfavorably.
