Clemens defeats Bernard by 34 votes. Recount ahead

by Andrew Abramson | August 15th, 2012

Jeff Clemens defeated Mack Bernard in the State Senate race by a grand total of 34 votes out of more than 24,000 votes cast. However, a recount — required when a race is determined by a half percent — will come as soon as Friday

Supervisor of Elections Susan Bucher said she has told the canvassing board to return Friday at 1 p.m. for a recount that could go into Saturday. However, Bucher said a change in state law last year requires that the secretary of state has to call the recount. Bucher said she spoke to state officials today and they would not commit to a Friday recount.

“We made them aware that we made arrangements to have the canvassing board available Friday at 1 p.m.,” Bucher said. “Their comment was not they were not sure if they could turn it around quickly enough for Friday.”

  1. Raider of Medicare=Obama Says:

And this guy will support Obama’s raid of over $716 billion from Medicare to ObamaCare.

It’s just like the raid on Social Security.

NO to ObamaCare. Repeal the whole damn thing and start over.

And work with both parties, not shutting the door to exclude one party like Obama did.

  2. T. J. Ewing Says:

Another of a litany of Republicon lies is that Obama will raid Medicare/Medicaid. It’s the GOP/Teabaggers who will end Medicare/Medicaid as we know it. They are spreading this lie because with Ryan and his budget plan as well as their plan to end Social Security as we know it, they will never be able to win Florida. Quit listening to Faux News, Rushbo, Billo etc. and try to educate yourself about the truth. Rmoney/Ryan will NEVER win Florida, the land of the retiree and they are running scared. Ryan loves Ayn Rand, who called poor people peons and Ryan wants to end the Cuban Embargo. This will NEVER win Florida. But the GOP/Teabaggers will SAY ANYTHING to try. Rmoney/Ryan represent the rich and corporate America and everybody else can go straight to hell! Grow a brain!

  3. Recount??? Says:

Look into Jeff’s “professional” campaign manager’s background. When it comes to absentee ballots, he has some dirty laundry that needs to be aired — and around 30 ballots is the amount he was able to get just in a nursing home in a few days in this campaign!

  4. R U Kidding Says:

Where is the Palm Beach County State Attorney on the possibility of absentee ballots being manipulated by Mack and Bobby’s campaigns? It can happen just as easily outside Miami as in it.

  5. Dee Says:

Well, we can all see how important it is to vote!

  6. Charlie F. Says:

    Dear Mack-

No. Not all votes cn be counted.
Illegal ballots cant be counted- that includes voters that went to the wrong precinct, dont have ID, or filled out their provisional ballots wrong. Period.

You lost. Stop whining, and concede.

    Charlie F.

  7. Searcher Says:

I’m glad Jeff won. He is a sensible pol who can work with Repubs to get a few minor things done. The only way to get MAJOR things done is to change the party composition by electing more Democrats. Unfortunately, Central and North Florida are closer to Alabama and Georgia in hteir beliefs than those living in the southern part of the state….

  8. rosco p coldtrain Says:

Stop the Jeb Bush illegal computer vote fixing chips and demand we count the paper ballots.
