West releases second TV ad; District 18 race called national ‘bellwether’by George Bennett | July 18th, 2012
With Democratic rival Patrick Murphy launching his TV campaign this week, U.S. Rep. Allen West, R-Palm Beach Gardens, unveiled his second TV spot today. The 30-second ad highlights West’s upbringing in inner-city Atlanta, his one-year stint as a Broward County teacher and his belief in “equality of opportunity….the opportunity to pursue the American dream.”
The likely West-Murphy showdown (both face primary opposition Aug. 14) in newly drawn District 18 is rated as one of five national bellwether races by The National Journal, which says “simply by looking at five battleground-state House races, voters will get more of a sense of how the presidential race is shaping up than by looking at in-state polls or focus groups.”
The National Journal also ranked the 75 most competitive House races. District 18 is rated the 20th most likely to change partisan hands.
