West releases second TV ad; District 18 race called national ‘bellwether’

by George Bennett | July 18th, 2012

With Democratic rival Patrick Murphy launching his TV campaign this week, U.S. Rep. Allen West, R-Palm Beach Gardens, unveiled his second TV spot today. The 30-second ad highlights West’s upbringing in inner-city Atlanta, his one-year stint as a Broward County teacher and his belief in “equality of opportunity….the opportunity to pursue the American dream.”

The likely West-Murphy showdown (both face primary opposition Aug. 14) in newly drawn District 18 is rated as one of five national bellwether races by The National Journal, which says “simply by looking at five battleground-state House races, voters will get more of a sense of how the presidential race is shaping up than by looking at in-state polls or focus groups.”

The National Journal also ranked the 75 most competitive House races. District 18 is rated the 20th most likely to change partisan hands.

Gee, how touching. No Commies Mr. West? Your loosing your touch. Must not have had any bad nightmares lately since nothing outrageous is uttered. Oh well, one can only say just so many stupid things before people loose interest. You better come up with something ridiculous in order to keep your name in the “libral press.” The suspense is just incredible!

  2. ALLEN WEST = ONE & DONE Says:

He voted to turn Medicare into a coupon.

He voted to give tax cuts for the rich and INCREASE TAXES on the middle class.

    He won’t cut military spending.

He won’t raise taxes on the rich.

But he complains about the deficit, meaning that cuts will have to come in the form of Medicare benefits, Social Security benefits, or EDUCATION spending.

He wants to END the social safety net so Wall Street can continue to SCREW US.

What is his justification for only teaching for a year?

  4. speaks with forked tongue Says:

How are those cuts to education that he campaigns for going to effect the quality of education, tell em that Mr. West?

  5. Katherine McGill Says:

I’m losing faith in Rep West. It was reckless last week to suddenly change his mind on a bill only because of pressure from the beef and pork industries. The bill he pulled back on would phase in, over 15 to 18 years, improvements in egg production, including a labeling program for consumers so they understand their food suppliers.

Not only do consumers deserve this right, H.R. 3798 is a compromise between The Humane Society of the United States and the United Egg Producers themselves, which are the two main groups in their respective fields. Lawmakers should encourage that kind of compromise and problem-solving and not kowtow to special interests that have zero economic stake in the industry. West has made a bad blunder here. He’s a man who casts himself as resolute and principled, but his capitulation on this issue shows that his self-description does not tell the whole story.

Changing his mind threw us all under the Special Interest-driven bus yet again. How can we trust legislators that clearly are going to support big corporate interests over ours?

  7. ALLEN WEST = ONE & DONE Says:

“Currently we have some 40-45% of Americans who are not paying any taxes.”

“If you look at the application for a security clearance, I have a clearance that even the president of the United States cannot obtain because of my background.”

“We had an amendment in the health care law that said the federal government is going to take over education.”

“China owns about 29 percent of (the U.S.) debt.”

“This is the first time in the history that we’ve had the raising of a debt limit also with spending cuts.”

“In the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act, it was the Democrats who cut $500 billion from Medicare. And they also put in place the Independent Payment Advisory Board, 15 unelected bureaucrats, which will be making decisions about health care for our seniors and for all Americans.”

The EPA “wants to hire 230,000 new government regulators that will cost the taxpayer $21 billion.”

About 78 to 81 House Democrats “are members of the Communist Party. … It’s called the Congressional Progressive Caucus.”

An “Obamacare slush fund” paid to spay and neuter dogs and cats, then counted it as an “anti-obesity campaign.”

VOTE for PATRICK MURPHY in 2012!

  8. Detest West Says:

He couldn’t hack it for more than a year at Deerfield High School and went to being a mercenary in Afghanistan instead, and then a bought and paid for carpetbagging hack for the Right wing military establishment.

  9. Dave Griswold Says:

Rep. West makes outrageous claims that he cannot back up and independent fact checks find false. He is the bottom of the barrel in modern politics.

  10. Jacob Says:

Love the ad. This guy is real. Everyone in America complains because politicians are fake or never say truth. Allen states the truth in easy to understand words. America should be very happy we finally have a common sense and honest politician who has also faced death in defending our nationa freedom. Also kids a adorable in commercial

  11. ALLEN WEST = ONE & DONE Says:

    Hey Jacob!

  12. Mimi Says:

How anyone with a clear and clean conscience vote for West is beyond all reasoning. Disrespectful of senior citizens, children, teachers – his lies and fictional facts are shameful. This man has no integrity. His repub/tparty has no moral compass. He is a coward and a moocher. Untrustworthy.

  13. KitP Says:

Mimi – and animals. As posted above, West did a 180 and changed his mind on an animal welfare bill last week, to kowtow to two other industry lobbies. Appears he only sticks to his word and cosponsorship promises until another special interest group woo’s him.
Politics as usual! NOT what we need anymore, people.

  14. min e-pitch Says:

Why don’t you go back to Stormfront,DeShawn? You’re a slug and you deserve whatever you get.

  15. kelly Says:

West is going to try to buy his seat. We must not let that happen. Make sure you talk to any and all voters to let them know West’s real record. We want civil government, not this tea party garbage.
