Former health care sidestepper Frankel now touts Affordable Care Act in fundraising pitch

by George Bennett | June 28th, 2012

Former West Palm Beach mayor Lois Frankel, who supported a national single-payer health insurance plan back in 2008, declined to take a position on President Obama‘s landmark federal health care legislation when she launched her Democratic bid for Congress last year.

“I can’t answer that question,” Frankel told WPTV Channel 5′s Michael Williams in March 2011 when she was asked if she would have voted for the Affordable Care Act.

Later in 2011, Frankel called the health care legislation “a big step forward, but it is not perfect.” And in May, Frankel said: “While not perfect, I would have supported the health care reform bill.”

Today, with the Supreme Court upholding the constitutionality of the law and a fundraising quarter closing on Saturday, Frankel sounded considerably more enthusiastic about the law in an e-mail appeal to donors.

“This morning the Affordable Care Act was ruled constitutional by the US Supreme Court. This isn’t just a victory for Democrats; it’s a victory for working families all across this country who are struggling to make ends meet. While families are celebrating the ruling, we know that the Tea Party is getting ready to take this fight to the halls of Congress,” said Frankel, who faces Broward County Commissioner Kristin Jacobs in an Aug. 14 Democratic primary. The winner will face Republican Adam Hasner in Palm Beach-Broward District 22.

Lois Frankel’s fundraising appeal:

This morning the Affordable Care Act was ruled constitutional by the US Supreme Court. This isn’t just a victory for Democrats; it’s a victory for working families all across this country who are struggling to make ends meet. While families are celebrating the ruling, we know that the Tea Party is getting ready to take this fight to the halls of Congress.

Saturday is a crucial deadline. By then, we are required to report how much money we have raised this quarter. The media and beltway pundits will then use those numbers as a measuring post to decide how much support the Affordable Care Act has across this country.

Can you make a contribution now? Your support will send a strong message to our radical Tea Party opponent and Washington insiders that we are fighting back and we will win.

The Tea Party will continue trying to send us back to the days when a big insurance company made your healthcare choices. When they could deny you coverage for pre-existing conditions. When they could put a cap on your life-time coverage. I don’t ever want to go back to that time. I want to keep our great country moving forward.

Stand with our campaign today. Make your most generous contribution and help us tell the Tea Party that affordable healthcare is here to stay.

    Defund, Repeal, Restore!
    * Defund this fiscally irresponsible piece of legislation, by refusing to raise the debt ceiling!
    * Repeal the legislation, once it has been defunded and sat unimplemented for years!
    * Restore our Constitutional Liberties and the Checks & Balances that Guarantee our Freedoms!

  2. Big Daddy Says:

Notice she said, “Democrats”, not democracy. This is a woman who talks out of both opening, her mouth and her anus. Of course she didn’t want to say anything before today. She wanted to make sure if they ruled against it, she could tote her healthcare and if it passed as it did today, she could endorse it.

This is not a woman who can be trusted, bottom line.

  3. Shes acrook Says:

This troll of a woman who spent $400 million of our tax dollars on a new city hall we don’t need after lying to us about a “done deal” on selling the old city hall and who put her lesbian girlfriend to work at the city in a clear act of nepotism and who then put her in an office in the new city hall right next to Frankels so they could frolick in the shower together is not fit for any public office.

Broward Vice Mayor Kristin Jacobs is the newest member of the Intergovernmental Coastal Oceans Task Force, a group of lawmakers and eco-experts appointed to develop strategy to protect our region from climate change and sea level rise which could cost billions in economic impacts if not mitigated.

  6. Isabella Ralston-Charnley Says:

The Town Council of South Palm Beach changed the Towns FORM OF GOVERNMENT WITHOUT REFERNDUM

From March 2006 EVERY member of EVERY board was appointed by individual Council Member STRICTLY PROHIBITED by the Charter- the Towns Constitution.

They refuse to answer any of my e-mails or questions at Town Hall Meetings – why? If I am wrong just tell me so!

Below is what I tried to read at the Town Hall on June 26, 2012.

    TOWN HALL MEETING 6-26-12

At the October 25, 2011 Town Meeting Mayor Clayman instructed Police Chief Crane to remove me from the hall, and in the end Police Chief Crane said to Mayor Clayman “give me instructions Mayor and I will arrest her for trespassing. The Mayor has no authority to give orders to employees.

    § 2-3. – Prohibitions.

    (a)

Neither the Town Council nor any member thereof shall give orders to any subordinate of the Town Manager, either publicly or privately. Crane is a subordinate of the Town Manager.

Chief Crane has worked in this Town for 25 years and yet he asks the Mayor for instructions.

March 28, 2006 Town Attorneys wrote Ordinance 255.This ordinance gave permission for the Mayor and Town Council to choose and appoint anybody that they wanted to put on the Boards etc. of our Town – PROHIBITED BY OUR TOWN CHARTER.

Boards were cheery picked by individual Council Members and Mayor to suit their own agendas.

    Excerpts from our charter state:

    Boards and committees:

    a) Appointment—Every member of every board and committee of the Town, whether advisory or quasi-judicial, shall be recommended by the Town Manager, and shall be appointed by the Town Council.

    (3) The Mayor shall have no power of appointment, or of veto.

    3-3. – Appointments and removals.

    (a) . The Town Manager shall report every appointment and removal made by him/her to the Town Council at the next meeting thereof following such appointment or removal. Not done since 2006

§ 2-9. – Citizens advisory council.. Unless there is an emergency or other bona fide reason for immediate action, as approved by the Town Council, all recommendations of the Town Manager for board and committee membership shall be considered by the citizen advisory council, prior to approval by the Town Council.

This Mandatory Citizens Advisory Council that has not sat in this Town since 2003.

    § 2-3. – Prohibitions.

    (a) Neither the Town Council nor any of its members shall direct or request the Manager or any of his/her subordinates, or in any manner take part in the appointment or removal of officers and employees in that portion of the service of the Town for whose administration the Town Manager is responsible

    § 3-3. – Appointments and removals.

    (a) Department heads, officers, and employees: Such officers and employees as the Town Council, with the advice of the Town Manager, shall determine are necessary for the proper administration of the Town agencies for whose administration the Town Manager is responsible, shall be appointed and may be removed, by the Town Manager. The Town Manager shall report every appointment and removal made by him/her to the Town Council at the next meeting thereof following such appointment or removal. Not done since 2006

Planning Board Members Mike Nevard, Dee Robinson and Pat Festino who helped rob this Town the chance to redevelop our only commercial site, have never been through the MANDATORY CITIZENS ADVICE COUNCIL, and all three were ILLEGALLY appointed and reappointed by individual council members.

    Their votes should be invalidated.

  7. Oscar Says:

They are running Kristen so Hasner can win. Wake up people. Kristen has no chance of winning in a primary or a general election. Thanks for helping Hasner.

  8. Status Quo Says:

Just look at who controls the democrat party and that will explain why they support Frankel.

It’s one religious group’s control over who gets a nod to run and who gets support.

  9. Research Says:

OK, so Frankel says they are taking all the stuff the bad insurance agencies used to do and give it to the Federal Govt. Hmmm? Post Office always bankrupt, Medicare bankrupt, Medicade bankrupt, several trillions in debt, no budget for several years. Oh, I can’t wait to have the Govt. running health care!!

  10. Irish Mike Says:

With Dems deciding who gets what and how much they have to pay for healthcare, rich folks and the politically well-connected will have the access to the best doctors and care, and the rest of us will end up with the healthcare equivalent of public housing, public transportation, and inner city public schools.

  11. GO OBAMA Says:

    LOL, dude, Irish Mike.

    You are hilarious.

Nobody cares about your Penny-Henny sky-is-falling OMG-NOOOO attitude.

    It’s so tired and boring.

Can the faux-outrage. You’ll live longer.

  12. GO OBAMA Says:

Now Allen West is saying that the 5 SCOTUS justices who voted to uphold Obamacare are… drumroll please…

    NOT TRUE AMERICANS!

Here is the quotation from his weekly email:

“Thanks to the five United States Supreme Court Justices who have reminded us, true Americans, of what tyranny looks like.”

    ~ Allen West, July 1st, 2012

So now John Roberts, appointed by George W. Bush, is not only a bad judge…

HE IS NOT A “TRUE AMERICAN”!!!

    HE IS A TYRANT!!!

Why? Because Allen West — a freshman congressman — thinks so!

These are the depths that the Republican Party have sunk to. We must remove from office anyone who doesn’t believe in the American form of representative democracy and our 3 branches of the federal government.

We start on November 6th with the election of PATRICK MURPHY IN FL-18!

Plus since i hate getting cherry juice everywhere, I used disposable latex gloves, and a towel under the bottle, this just makes clean up a bit easier! but boy do i love cherry season.
