Palm Beach County elections fixture Theresa LePore reappears at supervisors’ meeting – as a vendor

by Dara Kam | May 16th, 2012

Theresa LePore was a regular at the state supervisors of elections summer meeting for years. And she’s back.

The former Palm Beach County supervisor of elections gained infamy for the notorious “butterfly ballots” and pregnant chads that became forever entwined with the 2000 presidential election debacle.

Now LePore, who lost her reelection bid to former PBC elections chief Arthur Anderson in 2004, is one of the vendors pitching their products to the state’s 67 elections supervisors.

LePore works for Democracy Live, a company that uses cloud software to allow military and overseas voters to cast absentee ballots. Her company, which is partnering with Microsoft, doesn’t have anything to do with tabulation or ballot designs.

“It’s kind of fun seeing everybody and intermingling with my former co-partners,” LePore said.

She smiled when asked about the tension between state and local elections officials over a controversial non-citizen voter purge list. State officials gave the list of 2,600 potential non-citizens who are also registered voters to local elections chiefs, who are now learning that many of those identified on the list have become citizens.

LePore was PBC elections chief during a controversial purging of felons during the 2000 and 2002 elections when thousands of voters were erroneously removed from the voting rolls.

“It’s like déjà vu,” LePore said. “I’m sure there’s reasons about everything. I’m not sure they’re good reasons.”

  1. Searcher Says:

I remember dealing with Theresa when she worked for Jackie Winchester. She was a Witch then and I bet she hasn’t changed. But, KARMA did catch up with her, but it changed the country forever….

  2. Chris Says:

@Searcher. Those in glass houses should not throw stones.

  3. Better Luck Next Time Says:

@searcher, the county was in much better hands with LePore than either Anderson or our current SOE who is clueless. LePore was the fallguy for the moronic Democrats who voted for Buchanan.

  4. Vinny Says:

Oh yeah I remember her…Wexler’s scapegoat…and look at what he has done to PBC voters.

  5. Ruby Says:

Lets just say PBC has not been the same since she left and those following her have not done any better. Everytime there is an election…something goes wrong-one has to wonder if anything will ever run smoothly here. Its anyone’s guess??

  6. ELC Says:

LePore, Andersen, Bucher whatever. What does it matter when noone seems to get it right. I moved here when Andersen took over and what a disaster he turned out to be. Susan Bucher is trying…however, we are always in the limelight..something always goes wrong. One has to wonder if this job is so hard that noone can tackle it successfully?

  7. Booya Says:

Does Bucher ever move her jaw when she speaks?

For that matter, has she ever been right about anything?

  8. PBG Native Says:

Oh my GOD! Are there still some that claim the 2000 election was “stolen?” You people REALLY need to get a life. Even if LePore’s blunder did change the election (which it most certainly did not), I’d thank God, because I’d hate to even think what a mess we’d be in if Al Gore had become president.

  9. Hanging Chad Says:

God knows she did the best she could with counting the chads legal or otherwise but no matter AG Holder says there’s not problem with voter fraud right?

  10. Jupiter Native Says:

    @PBG native:
The 2000 election wasn’t ‘stolen’. Several blunders allowed the voters intended candidate to lose by 500 votes. And to be perfectly honest with you, Many of us believe Gore was more qualified than your cheerleader Bush for the job.
Makes you wonder if 911 would have still happened. Certainly we wouldn’t have attacked and occupied Iraq because of it.
And we aren’t still pulling ourselves out of a mess that Bush created?
You need to pull your head out of the sand.

  11. Only the Facts Says:

@Jupiter Native, Gore was not more qualified, only more arrogant. 911 still would have happened because the terrorists trained under the Clinton administration and hated America. And it will take at least a decade or longer for us to pull ourselves out of the mess that Obama has created.

  12. Searcher Says:

The last good Supervisor of Elections was Jackie Winchester, who was supervisor for 23 years. But she would allow dimpled chads. It wasn’t until Theresa took over that it started going down-hill.

  13. Gimme a Break Says:

    @Only the Farks
Keep listening to Limbaugh and Fox newz. Sounds just like the talking points your hero Bush used. Take a look back at the budget surplus and the low gas prices we enjoyed during the Clinton years. All erase during the 8 years of fail under Bush.
REally, you should place blame where its due – BUSH
Obama has done a great job stopping this ship from sinking.
Keep trying to rewrite history Limbaugh lover – it’ll never happen

  14. Concerned Says:

Career politicians feeding off the trough is destroying our county and country.
