Choosing sides? Dems’ House campaign chief to raise money for Frankel in primary

by George Bennett | May 1st, 2012

The Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee isn’t officially taking sides in the Democratic primary between former West Palm Beach mayor Lois Frankel and Broward County Commissioner Kristin Jacobs for the Palm Beach-Broward congressional District 22 seat.

But DCCC Chairman Steve Israel, D-N.Y., will be in West Palm Beach on Saturday to raise money for Frankel at a $1,000-a-plate brunch.

DCCC spokeswoman Stephanie Formas said Israel’s appearance does not constitute an endorsement of Frankel by the committee or its chairman.

But it certainly furthers the perception that Frankel’s big-dollar campaign is favored by the party establishment.

Through March 31, Frankel had raised more money from outside contributors — $1.845 million — than any other non-incumbent Democrat in the nation. Jacobs, who entered the race in February, raised $203,931 by the end of the first quarter. The Democratic primary winner will face former state House Republican leader Adam Hasner of Boca Raton in the general election in a district that voted 57 percent for Barack Obama in 2008.

District 22 is now represented by U.S. Rep. Allen West, R-Plantation. But with legislators redrawing it with a Democratic tilt, West decided to run in Palm Beach-Treasure Coast District 18.

They can waste their ad money if they want.

Obama and the Dems are hitting the polls this November in a BIG WAY.

  2. Downtown Danny Says:

Frankel is a stone cold CROOK. She destroyed WPB, and residents here would not elect her to dog catcher if there was such an election.

  3. Downtown Steve Says:

As a four-year resident of WPB, I take strong issue with Downtown Danny. Lois did really good things for the city, and this is a great place to live. She had the courage to take on Allen West — and she chased him out of his district. We need more people like Lois in Congress.

  4. The machine at work Says:

Has the Post Times EVEN MENTIONED Frankel’s candidate?

All the Post does is give free publicity to Frankel while ignoring her opposition, Hasner is a very decent man.

What is the breakdown of Post Time endorsements for democrats versus Republicans in local state and national elections?

Anybody want to take a wild guess as to what party is endorsed over and over and over again by the Post Times.

The Post Times contributes to Corruption County.

  5. Sarcasm Says:

Lois Frankel ruined downtown WPB and the neighborhoods. I can’t believe that people are supporting her. I do believe business is contributing to her campaign, she was investigated for Pay to Play and while she wasn’t charged, she wasn’t exactly given kudos either. Ask Dan Catalfuomo. Lois left office and he declared bankruptcy, in that order.

Btw, isn’t it hilariously ironic that the same Republican fools who elected RICK SCOTT — um, helloooo! — are now calling every Democrat a “crook” because they can’t think of anything substantive to say on the issues?

  7. joe Says:
