Frankel, Murphy are top national fundraisers among Dem House challengersby George Bennett | April 24th, 2012
Former West Palm Beach mayor Lois Frankel and accountant Patrick Murphy, Democrats running in neighboring Palm Beach County congressional districts, have raised more money from outside contributors than any other non-incumbent Democrats in 2012, the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee says.
Frankel raised $1.845 million through March 31 for her Palm Beach-Broward District 22 race while Murphy raised $1.768 million for his Palm Beach-Treasure Coast District 18 contest.
In Maryland, Democratic House hopeful John Delaney has raised $2.5 million — but his total includes more than $1.6 million of his own money.
Murphy, running against freshman Republican U.S. Rep. Allen West, was added this week to the DCCC’s “Red to Blue” program highlighting the party’s top challengers. Frankel, who faces Broward County Commissioner Kristin Jacobs in a Democratic primary, is not on the Red to Blue list as an individual, but the party has designated District 22 as a Red to Blue district.
District 22 is represented now by West, but has been redrawn with a Democratic advantage. After West bolted for District 18, former state House Majority Leader Adam Hasner of Boca Raton is the GOP standard bearer for District 22.
