Tri-Rail changes coming down the track
by John Kennedy | March 2nd, 2012South Florida’s Tri-Rail board would be reshuffled, the rail line could expand to Monroe County, and its administration could be privatized, under a provision ready for a House vote next week.
An amendment tacked on Friday to a sweeping transportation bill (HB 1399) would turn the nine-member South Florida Regional Transportation Authority to a 10-member panel, with Gov. Rick Scott authorized to appoint four members. The bill earlier created an 11-member panel, with Scott naming five.
The agreement also addresses the Governor’s desire to privatize Tri-Rail. The authority’s executive director, Joseph Giulietti said that in order for privatization to go through, two-thirds of the board has to vote for it.
“We are encouraged to be moving in a direction that we can work together,” he added.

The Private sector has done such a Phenomenal job addressing the needs of our communities, Gov. Scott and the Republican led legislator should turn over all publicly held land and institutions, for surely they can turn a larger profit than the public.

Tri Rail needs to go away. Its a waste. Nobody rides it because you have to spend money on cabfare to get to the station.
ONly government could have come up with an idea as stupid as tri rail

I ride tri-rail all the time and I think it’s great. I WISH IT WAS A LITTLE MORE ON TIME, AND I FEEL INTIMIDATED BY THE SECURITY GUARDS WHO ARREST PEOPLE WHO DON’T HAVE TICKETS. THEY OUGHT TO SELL TICKETS ON THE TRAIN BECAUSE HALF THE TIME YOU DON’T HAVE TIME TO SCREW WITH THE IDIOTIC TICKET MACHINE AND THE TRAIN IS PULLING OUT. ALSO IT IS CRUEL THEY DON’T HAVE BATHROOMS IN THE STATIONS OR MORE LATER-AT-NIGHT TRAINS. IT SUCKS TO GET STUCK IN BOCA OR PALM BEACH WITH NO WAY TO GET HOME AT 11 O’ CLOCK.

@Mike,
Apparently, you have never ridden tri-rail. My husband rides it daily to Ft. Lauderdale. It saves us a lot of money. It does take extra time, but he brings his kindle and iPod and gets to relax on the way to work. He doesn’t have to battle the crazy drivers on I95. He loves it and he said he sees an increase in ridership each time the gas prices go up. So, just because you don’t ride it, don’t assume that no one does!

People who hate “government” are TRAITORS.
If you don’t like something, call for a solution. Call your elected officials.
But this blanket condemnation of “government” is sedition, traitorous, runs counter to our “democratic republic” form of government, and obviously anti-American.
Neoconfederates like Mike are actively trying to tear this country to pieces. It is wholly unacceptable.
