Broward Commissioner LaMarca weighs GOP challenge to Hasner in congressional District 22
by George Bennett | February 10th, 2012
Republican Broward County Commissioner Chip LaMarca, a former chairman of the Broward County GOP, is considering running for the Palm Beach-Broward District 22 congressional seat despite heavy Republican establishment backing for former state House Majority Leader Adam Hasner of Boca Raton.
“I clearly want to look at it and see what the feel of the voters is,” LaMarca said this morning. “I count Adam as a friend, but I need to look at this.”
U.S. Rep. Allen West, R-Plantation, holds the seat now. But with the legislature redrawing District 22 with a Democratic tilt, West announced he’ll run instead in more balanced Palm Beach-Treasure Coast District 18. After West’s announcement, Hasner dropped his Republican U.S. Senate bid to run in District 22, bringing nearly $700,000 in campaign cash and endorsements from West and House Majority Leader Eric Cantor, R-Va. Hasner has also been designated an “on the radar” candidate by the National Republican Congressional Committee.LaMarca says he’ll probably decide within a week whether to pursue the congressional bid.
Democrats Lois Frankel and Kristin Jacobs are also running in District 22.

This is just LaMarca’s way of attracting attention. He probably has no intention of running and is just seeking some publicity or wanting Hasner to kiss his butt for support. Lamarca has always been an attention-seeker and LaMarca faces an uphill battle in 2014 for his county commission seat.

LaMarca will be lucky to avoid a recall vote, why would he want to be blamed for losing an R seat on the Commission and Congress too? Hasner is the only Republican who can win that race.

As a palm beach resident I have one question, who the heck is Chip LaMarca?

Kristen Jacobs could clean both their clocks.
Besides LaMarca is an ineffective leader who rarely contributes anything in his current Commission seat which he has only held for a short time.

I came to Boca to avoid the putzes in Fort Lauderdale. Lois Frankel will be our best friend in Congress. What kind of grown up has a name “chip”? Lois comes with years of real experience.

Lamarca was a great leader when president of the Broward GOP, they’ve yet to have anyone who is able to unify the party in there since he left. He definitely has my vote. @Palm Beach Gardener, nice try. You obviously DO know who he is, or why would you point out where you’re from.
Hasner, Frankel and Jacobs are sweating this one out for sure.

Kristin Jacobs is “sweating” Chip’s entrance to the race? Hahaha…I doubt that. Kristin has all the experience Lois has (and much more) with none of the baggage.

@BrowardGOPer – LaMarca was a bad chair of the Broward GOP. He made the motoion to endorse Charlie Crist back in 2006. And now he goes on the commission and votes to impose mandates on businesses to provide gay partner benefits during a recession. He won’t get my support! Go Hasner!
