Romney’s wife wows crowd at Hispanic conference
by Jane Musgrave | January 27th, 2012DORAL – Before Feliciano Ramirez heard Mitt Romney speak today, he was all-but certain he was going to vote for Newt Gingrich.
“He can really debate Obama on all of the issues because he’s a Washington insider,” Ramirez said, echoing the sentiments of many recent converts to the Gingrich camp.
However, after hearing the two candidates deliver back-to-back speeches at the Hispanic Leadership Network, Ramirez’s vote in Tuesday’s GOP primary wasn’t so certain.
“I’m going to have to pray on it,” he said with a laugh after the Massachusetts governor gave a rousing speech to roughly 500 Latin American leaders.
And, he said, it wasn’t just Romney’s enthusiastic rhetoric or Gingrich’s more professorial speech. Ramirez said he was impressed with the candidate’s wife, Ann.
Romney was introduced to the crowd in Spanish by the couple’s youngest son, who spent several years in Chile. After a quick “Ola!” from one of their 16 grandkids, Ann Romney delivered what appeared to be a heartfelt, funny and down home assessment of the rigors of being a candidate’s wife and raising five children while her husband traveled on business and why she agreed, once again, to join him on the campaign trail.
“Four years ago, I was definite about one thing: I would never do it again,” she said of her husband’s failed 2008 campaign. “Mitt said, you say that after every pregnancy. All the women out there know what I’m talking about.”
When he broached the subject again, she said she was reluctant. Before she was going to endure another campaign, she asked him to answer one question: “Can you fix it?” When he answered yes, she was in.
“He has the ability to find the core of the problem and then figure out how to fix it,” said Ann Romney, who was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis in 1998 and is a breast cancer survivor.
Ramirez was impressed with her moxie. “His wife pulled it off,” he said.
Gingrich, who speaks what he calls “pidgin Spanish” but didn’t try it out on the Hispanic audience, was also accompanied by his wife, Callista. She didn’t speak, but stood by his side, smiling, clapping and nodding her support.

Pidgin, not “pigeon.”

Ron Paul is the real choice for 2012, his wife is the most down to earth out of all of them.

Interesting that Ann was diagnosed with MS and has survived breast cancer, but Mitt didn’t leave her for another woman. I guess Newt can’t say the same. I never gave too much thought about character, but it does matter. Good for Mitt in staying by his wife’s side in her time of trouble. He’s shown himself to be loyal, dependable and I commend him for it. I hope he or whoever gets the nod beats this empty suit pres back to Chicago – where only the diehards in the city there would take him back. In the burbs, we don’t want him.
January 27th, 2012 at 3:10 pm
“Pidgin” is a corruption of the word, “business.” The Chinese Mandarins called the language they used to communicate with early British and American diplomat and merchants, “Pidgin English.” (Business English) At least, this is what I was taught long ago.

As a Hispanic women I’m amazed how so many Hispanics have been used by Democrates including Obama. Obama promised immigration reform during his first campaign. Bascically he dangled the carrot in front of our faces. Once he got the Latino vote he no longer knew who we were. I’m against amnesty simply because it does encourage illegal behavior. Again Obama is out there promising immigration reform because he needs the Hispanic vote. I think that it’s time that Hispanics ( I do not include myself because I was not fooled the first time by Obama’s double talk and smoke and mirriors) wake up and realize that Obama uses them like political pawns for political gains. Once he gets their vote again, he’ll forget about them, just like he has for the last three years.

Judge a man by his woman. I made this video to show how Ann Romney is Mitt’s ultimate secret weapon… http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3mwBFrkBi8M

http://evilbloggerlady.blogspot.com/2012/01/romney-claims-that-gingrich-was-not.html There is an other alternative…just in case you have doubts about Newt or Mitt.
January 27th, 2012 at 3:36 pm
Thank you, Paul, for your compassionate comment about Ann and Mitt staying by her side. They truly have a loving relationship, and he told her that he could handle anything, he would do anything to help her—the one thing he couldn’t handle would be to lose her in death.
Gracias, Wake Up America, por su comentario. Amamos con todo nuestra corazon los latinos, y sabemos que Mitt y Ann Romney tienen el amor sincero para uds. tambien.

If Newt’s bilingualism is reserved for women, then “pigeon Spanish” may be accurate.

GOP Debate MISSED MOMENT of the RACE. Blitzer teed up a slow hangin’ curve to Grand Slam asking: “What is it about your wife that will make her a great First Lady?”
None of the 4 GOP candidates replied with this headline maker: “ALL OF HER LIFE, my wife has been A PROUD AMERICAN.”
Why am I not being paid big bucks for great lines like these?
January 27th, 2012 at 3:53 pm
Got to give you credit Kilroy.. You’re right, that would have been the game winning Grand Slam!
January 27th, 2012 at 3:54 pm
Oh dear , tis not being said, but I quess Elizabeth Edwards would not approve of Callista Gingrich!
January 27th, 2012 at 4:13 pm
I just want to add to all these great comments. Mr. Romney does not have to apologize for being successful. Just like a number of Spanish people from all walks of life who came to this country to become successful also. Maybe the finances are not the same, the freedom, the pursuit and the hardwork that most Latin people strive for. The Latin worker is the most captialist individual, because they know what hard work is, they know what family is all about and they strive to make their finances work. Democracy is not the Democratic Party, just the opposite.
January 27th, 2012 at 4:13 pm
it’s like Laura Bush was George’s biggest asset, too.
January 27th, 2012 at 4:14 pm
If only the wives had a debate. Imagine:
“Mrs. Gingrich, what would you do if you learned your husband had been cheating on you for the last six years?”
January 27th, 2012 at 4:28 pm
Kilroy,
“ALL OF HER LIFE, my wife has been A PROUD AMERICAN.”
What a great line, Kilroy, and a missed opportunity to really put in a zinger.
January 27th, 2012 at 4:34 pm
I think voting for a man because of his wife is a huge mistake. But if it were true I would definitely vote for Ron Paul. His wife is pure gold and he seems like the most honest man in the field. Many people have rocky relationships it doesn’t mean they are bad people it’s just the way life is. Some people never find their soulmate and some people stay miserable for the sake of their spouse or children. Judge the candidate by his actions and how he has proven his honesty in the past.
January 27th, 2012 at 4:40 pm
I appreciate the efforts by Romney to reach out to Hispanic Americans.
Contrary to what the media tries to convey, many of us will not sell out our conservative social and religious views for the promised welfare and entitlement bones thrown by the liberal radicals who control the modern Democratic Party.

I want two things.
One, I want to see Obama leave office January 20, 2013 at 12:00pm forever in what I believe will be disgrace.
Secondly, I want a chance to flip off his motorcade too. Damn, how I would love that!
January 27th, 2012 at 5:47 pm
After witnessing almost a full term of this corrupted administration, Americans are no longer amused when they circumvent the Constitution and federal immigration laws, unilaterally pass mandates sans Congress, bestow trillions of our tax dollars on unions and other donors, and then describe all as “typical Chicago politics.”
We desperately need to restore dignity and law and order to the office of President. The Romneys appear to be the best qualified to do this and the fact that Mitt Romney relates to those of Latino heritage who reside here legally with the same respect as every other American further convinces me he is the candidate to best start us back on the road to unity.
Pandering to one ethnic group only further widens the chasm Obama has created.
January 27th, 2012 at 5:52 pm
Politicians that pander to ethnic groups are the most revolting/disgusting. It shows their ignorance of what a “melting pot” is supposed to mean. It’s classless and undermines what the Father’s of the Constitution ever intended.
January 27th, 2012 at 5:57 pm
Maya-
Romney is a smooth talker, and he is bilingual, but please don’t get taken in by his phony conservative rhetoric. He is as LIBERAL as Obama, he’s just better at covering it up.
Ann Romney, like her husband, claims to be pro-life, yet she had no good answer when a reporter asked her why she had given $100 dollars to Planned Parenthood; she is as phony as her husband.Vote for someone who is a REAL conservative, and does not lie– Ron Paul!
January 27th, 2012 at 6:06 pm
Ann Romney reminds me of Laura Bush in her grace and strength. Romney/Rubio 2012
January 27th, 2012 at 6:23 pm
What would happen if Mitt picked New Mexico Governor Susane Martinez as VP? I know she says she doesn’t want the job but that could change. She would bring in a lot of Hispanic voters and without them Obama wouldn’t have a chance.
January 27th, 2012 at 6:28 pm
It wasn’t Romney’s son that wrote the article. “Ola” is the Portuguese spelling. If the word is misspelled than it was the “journalist” that misspelled it.
January 27th, 2012 at 6:49 pm
Did anyone ask Callista why she claims to be a deeply devout Catholic who attends mass every week and prays the Rosary, but still knowingly had an affair with a married man?
January 27th, 2012 at 6:57 pm
I agree Romney’s wife is very classy. Callista not so much.
January 27th, 2012 at 7:01 pm
Kilroy… Loved that line! It makes me feel real good to see so many people from the Hispanic community encouraging their family members and friends to see the positives in looking at the GOP. I for one am an immigrant from New Zealand, of Polynesian heritage and was raised in the Labour party which is equivalent to the Democrat Party. Hand outs! That’s all they care about! What can my government do for me. I’m an registered as an Independent and will be voting for Mr Romney if he is going to be the GOP’s nominee. Obama has turned this great country into what I grew up with in New Zealand and that’s people, especially young people, asking what else can you do for me?
January 27th, 2012 at 7:22 pm
Interesting that Palm Beach media is supporting Mitt, the more chic of the candidates. But , in South Fla. in the Cuban community, the facts are that most Cubans, regardless of the candidate’s wife, , are supporting Newt. Now Mitt is probably going to win the state because he did great organizing with early voting netting him a 200,000 vote lead. Anne is adorable, Calista not so but I am voting for a tough guy Prez not a nice wife. And anybody but Obama. I wonder how the Palm Beach media think about that that so many people will want , anybody but Bama????
January 27th, 2012 at 7:26 pm
Both my ex-wives were proud of America!

Here’s a special message for Matt Drudge: SHUT UP!!! I have absolutely had it with article after article on Drudge’s website slamming Newt Gingrich again, and again, and again. I am not a big Gingrich fan, but I simply cannot take anymore of neocons like Matt Drudge pulling out all the stops to win the Republican nomination for Mitt Romney. It’s not that I want Gingrich as the nominee; it’s that all of Drudge’s links to articles like this one are aimed to get us Romney as the nominee, and Romney is awful. I wouldn’t have a problem with it if Romney were a decent conservative candidate, but he’s terrible. Day after day, week after week, Matt Drudge continues to highlight articles like this one with bells and whistles (he may as well take out a Superbowl ad), and it is all geared toward one end: to ensure Romney wins the nomination. Maybe in another week or so, the link to Drudge’s website will simply redirect to the Romney Campaign Headquarters site; it’s basically functioning like an arm of the Romney campaign now. Sometimes Drudge even has multiple links that end up going to the same exact article (like this one). It’s pro-Romney propaganda. Attention Matt Drudge: Romney stinks. And guess what, moron? I and other real conservatives won’t vote fo him. We don’t need the Republican party to give the nomination to John McCain again… errr, I mean Romney. We don’t need yet another typical establishment Republican, status-quo, big-government, RINO, loser neocon like Romney as the Republican candidate. The Repubs do this again and again thanks to morons like Drudge. We are currently sitting on one of the worst presidents in U.S. history, and he will likely win re-election no thanks to folks like Matt Drudge who will put up a losing candidate like Romney. The Democrats just got perhaps the most liberal president in American history elected into the White House, and the only thing the Republican establishment does in response is look to put up yet another neocon (Romney)….. once again. I, and a great deal of other REAL conservatives, will not vote for Romney and will vote third party for a candidate who actually deserves our votes. I have had it with the Republican establishment and their worthless RINO candidates, and I have had it with morons like Matt Drudge going all out to ensure it happens again by getting Romney the nomination. People like Drudge can get lost and go start their own neocon kingdom.
January 27th, 2012 at 7:33 pm
Mitt Romney is an outstanding man, with an outstanding wife and family and an outstanding business record.
January 27th, 2012 at 7:37 pm
I think it should be applauded when a wealthy, powerful, handsome man like Romney is still married to his first wife. Trump is on his third trophy wife, and Newt is 23 years older than his third wife (and former mistress.) The first family should set an example, like the Obamas and the Bushs.
January 27th, 2012 at 7:49 pm
Help us out Florida voters!!! MITT ROMNEY FOR PRESIDENT!!!!
January 27th, 2012 at 7:49 pm
Considering its small population, Palm Beach has more ex-wives than most places … and I’ve had the pleasure of meeting a few … every single one of them where proud of America … not very proud of certain individual American men … but proud to be American. A quick walk through any number of stores on Worth Avenue will give you a look at a lot of very pretty women who are just itching to add someone else to the “ex-wife” list in beautiful Palm Beach.
January 27th, 2012 at 7:58 pm
Newt’s fire breathing rhetoric reminds me of the same lip service Obama served to us four years ago. It sound good but upon closer look, how can we trust a DC insider who contributed to or was not able to solve the mess we have. Newt, if you can’t fix it in all 30+ years in DC. You sure can’t convince me that you can from the white house! I like listening to your war stories though. This Juan Carlos is for Mitt!
January 27th, 2012 at 8:04 pm
I started supporting Mitt after hearing Ann speak about her confidence in him. She is a true role model.
January 27th, 2012 at 8:04 pm
If Republicans want to win with a good margin, don’t take minority votes for granted. Hispanics and Asians brothers have the same hard working entrepreneurial spirit. Come spend some time with us Mitt and you might get our votes! Ask Bob McDonnell how he did it!
January 27th, 2012 at 8:10 pm
Google it: When Mitt Romney Came to Town. Then watch it!
January 27th, 2012 at 8:11 pm
The Romneys are quality people. My daughter babysat the grandkids and had a first hand look at all of them, She came away VERY IMPRESSED. They will be a great first family. No skeletons in the closet to embarras anyone. VOTE POR MITT!
January 27th, 2012 at 8:18 pm
Calist cannot speak with her helmet on!
January 27th, 2012 at 8:19 pm
Mitt was on fire last night…Calypso may really take today’s experience to heart when she dons her dominatrix gear tonight..look out newty ..it’s gonna be a painful sessions with no “resolve”.
January 27th, 2012 at 8:25 pm
Calista Gingrich is way out of her league. To me, she looks like she is hopped up on meds and out of touch with reality. This could explain why she is still with someone like Newt. The Romney’s appear to be wonderful and refreshingly classy. I don’t see the Romney’s ever embarrassing our wonderful country. Can’t say the same for Newt or Calista!
January 27th, 2012 at 8:58 pm
I have watched every debate and encouraged my family and friends to do the same. After listening to the candidates and looking at their backgrounds and records, Mitt Romney will get my vote hands down. Mitt is a leader who can unite us in the hard work and effort it will take to get our beautiful USA back on the right track. Mitt will be a steady hand on the rudder.
January 27th, 2012 at 9:01 pm
Personally, I don’t understand why anyone calling themselves conservatives would vote for Barack Romney.
Romney talks like a good conservative, but when you look at what he did as governor of Massachusetts, you’ll see he’s just as liberal as Ted Kennedy was.
Romney’s actions as governor:
RomneyCare = ObamaCare
The Massachusetts Gun Ban
Excessive Massachusetts fee/tax increases
We need someone we can trust. May I suggest Dr Ron Paul?
January 27th, 2012 at 9:04 pm
I am trying to understand why serious, objective people would think that Newt would be a better candidate than Mitt. I believe that too many people assume that the majority of American voters feel about President Obama as they do, and that that same majority feel the emotional connection to Newt that they do. This is a miscalculation that will doom the USA if they don’t wake up and realize that our “guy” has to appeal to people with a different outlook than they carry. I understand the initial visceral attraction many people have with Newt, but he simply cannot win in November. So my suggestion is that these die hard Newt disciples realize that even if he can win the nomination, he just can not win in November.
January 27th, 2012 at 9:27 pm
I could never trust a man who is on his 3rd wife, and has his moral deficiencies. And I would not waste my time flipping off OB’s motorcade, I would want to be able to flip him off in public to his face, which I’m sure is what Gov. Jan Breuer intended haha
January 27th, 2012 at 9:39 pm
Mitt and Ann Romney are fine people. I’m confident that Romney won’t be someone who says one thing and does another. The Hispanic community in Florida is very business minded…many are living the American Dream the way that Romney’s parents did.
I’m reading Romney’s book “No Apology – Believe in America.” He has a stated 64 item agenda for a “free and strong America.” Here is item 16:
“Reform immigration to attract and retain talent, simplify the legal processes, and end illegal immigration.”
Wouldn’t it be refreshing to reverse Obama’s policy?
January 27th, 2012 at 9:42 pm
Kilroy you are dead on with “proud American “comment.
Being a Hispanic I’d like to encourage other Hispanics …… Wake up stop being dragged down by the liberals. You live in the greatest country in the world. Learn the language, get an education, work hard at what you do. If you fail dust yourself off, and try again. Life is not “fair” , believe In Your self and not in government handouts. Those benefits are for the real sick NOT the lazy. If you feel that strong about government providing for you when you have the capability I you only tried….. The. Leave. Go to Venezuela, cuba and stop bringing this great country down. Btw that advise is for all
January 27th, 2012 at 9:51 pm
Bill99…do you think you have the “correct” viewpoint for a republican? Your right-wing agenda is perfect and your candidate is perfect?
The RNC is the establishment and they provide the funds to run the party and help its candidates. Get over it….they have opinions and insight far better than the average voter. Without their support, your favorite candidate doesn’t have a chance. So, quit pushing your right wing agenda on the party. Go be a libertarian, or create another party…but quit occupying this one. I’m sick of hearing about RINOs…who gave you authority to decide who is a true republican? Who said a republican must be from the right-wing of the party? Only 25% of people identify themselves as conservatives…so you think a minority of the population should always have the final say in who wins an election? Elections hinge on the voters in the middle…the independents. Romney will appeal to them. He appeals to me too and I’m a conservative.
I keep hearing Romney isn’t conservative enough, but we are headed to another four years of Obama if this continues. Much of this mess is the result of democrats meddling in the republican primary process…it is historic. You are playing into their hands with your temper tantrum.
January 27th, 2012 at 10:01 pm
KatieS – You are exactly correct. The objective is to get Obama out. Most voters are not hard core conservatives. In order to WIN we have to get the most conservative candidate who can win. Newt is not that person. Why is this so hard to comprehend?
January 27th, 2012 at 10:07 pm
Romney is a cult worshiping used car salesman like dirty trick scumbag …we will have four more of Obama… Then when the hole things falls we can rebuild…this time we wont make the same mistake of letting the torys stay
January 27th, 2012 at 10:28 pm
For all those who are slamming Newt for his marital history: Have you LOOKED into the first marriage? He married his HIGH SCHOOL SCIENCE TEACHER, I believe while still IN HIGH SCHOOL. In this day and age she would have gone directly to jail for pedophilia. That he managed to get out from under that relationship is a miracle. That he picked the wrong person the next time is no surprise. Calista may not feel like standing up there in the spot light.. she may.. LIKE LAURA BUSH.. be someone who isn’t at ease speaking in public. Laura Bush was a very shy woman who when she first became First Lady had great problems speaking to the public. She grew into the job, but at no time in the first run for President was she a publicly liked figure. She was the butt of jokes and sneered at constantly by the media for being ‘stiff’. A political wife may or may not be a ‘show-horse’.. but then we aren’t electing First Lady.. we’re electing a President.. the ‘First Lady’ gets the job like it or not.

Mitt Romney drives the main stream media nuts! They can not honestly find fault with this man! So they pout. Mitt is honest, hard-working, intelligent, dedicated, a family man and he believes in liberty and American exceptionalism. All of these attributes are what most of us Hispanics desire and the reason why our forefathers and ourselves came to this country pursuing. Thank you Mitt and family for being good Americans! Viva Mitt!! Let’s help this man beat Obama!
January 27th, 2012 at 10:57 pm
Skunk vomit Newt and helmit head Callista should step aside so that Santorums message can resonate with the American electorate. Newt and Mitt are jokes!
January 27th, 2012 at 10:57 pm
My wallet,my freedom, and my job just cant take another 4 years of the Bomma. I will vote for any name that ends in an R.
January 27th, 2012 at 11:07 pm
Gov Mitt and Ann are class acts. Not only have they been married 40(not sure of the exact time)years, but she was his first and only girlfriend. She waited for him while he served 2 1/2 years on a mission.
With the Romneys in the White House the statue of Churchill would be ushed into its rightful place again. They would never touch the Queen, nor give her an Ipod with his speeches on it. He would never bow to a Saudi Prince. They both have always been proud of their country. And as someone mentioned above, I wish he had thought to say that. Big parties would not be the norm at the White House.
For the Newt fan above, if you insist on taking your marbles and voting for a 3rd party, there will not be a country in 4 more years of obama. But maybe that is exactly what you are hoping for.
January 27th, 2012 at 11:09 pm
I agree with the writer about the Drudge Report. The articles are either being skewed by Rove or one of his guys or by Romney’s.
I feel like we are watching the first blatant purchase of the American presidency by a billionaire. (All those disclosure forms simply say “more than $250 million” — they don’t say how much more). Basically Romney has directed PAC money to the super-delegates over the last 4 years which is why his endorsements are coming out at strategic times like clockwork. Haley in South Carolina received $35,000; Rubio – I don’t know the amount, but I’m sure you can find it. Every state he goes to, you will find a politician who had a nice donation to his campaign standing next to Romney or sending a release to the press condemning Newt. It’s sickening.
I don’t agree with Newt on everything, but he’s been on Fox for 15 years and he’s a intelligent, rational man.
If Romney really cared and was quite a businessman – then besides the fact he’s been running for president for the past 8 years – why hasn’t he used any of his millions to build plants or companies in the USA and actually managing a company himself. Instead of coming up with strategies to steal pension funds, run up multi-million loans that you take the cash back to Bain and then file for bankruptcy for the company and leave the banks and the other companies who were your suppliers holding the bag and possibly going bankrupt.
As for Sports Authority and Staples – neither of them pay over $10/hour for the majority of their employees and they certainly don’t provide benefits when they can avoid it — and most of the goods they sell come from China not the US.
If you want a president to take us into bankruptcy while filling the bank accounts of the 1/10th of 1%, Romney’s your guy. If he was really going to do something good for American workers, he’d have something to show for it instead of a bankruptcy rate of 22% of the companies Bain acquired (per the Wall Street Journal).
Think First, then Vote. And watch http://www.kingofBain.com
Thanks.

January 27th, 2012 at 11:15 pm
The army of John Smith is marching on to buy the White House…and to legalize illegal aliens to build up the congregation membership of the lds church…like they did in the Sanctuary State of Utah.
January 27th, 2012 at 11:19 pm
Newt should follow his own advise about dreaming large and take himself to the moon…good riddance!!
January 27th, 2012 at 11:21 pm
Mitt handled himself like a PRESIDENT last night. It will be a pleasure having a man in the White House who is highly intelligent, a successful businessman, not to mention a man who looks like Hollywood’s version of a President, and someone who has a very classy, wholesale family life.
January 27th, 2012 at 11:30 pm
Mitt – it will be a privilege to have you as our president….
I know you will take this country back in the right direction….
You talk, act and look every bit presidential.. You family is our role model…
GO ROMNEY!!!!!
Romney/Rubio Romney/Santorum Romney/Huckabee
January 27th, 2012 at 11:49 pm
I agree with Bill99. Actually, the link on Drudge brought me here. I used to respect Drudge, he was not part of the “Establishment”. Well, he has been co-opted and its one of their own now.
January 28th, 2012 at 12:05 am
Maybe you all haven’t read who is putting up the money for Newt to fight back. You need to read up on him and his billions (not millions). He wants to buy the presidency. So go read up on the Nevada mogul and then tell me who is trying to buy the white house.
Thanks to the Hispanics above who love freedom and liberty and this country.
January 28th, 2012 at 12:23 am
We are Canadians following every debate in this race. You have no idea how ridiculous your candidates sound – one who pays only 15 per cent taxes has no problem with the working louts paying more -one who is on wife 3 gets standing ovations by the right wing religious crowd – one tries the folksy approach and nastily dismisses high school kids – and the final one, who speaks with common sense…..get ‘s ignored. Is the the best of America the GOP has? The more we watch , the more pathetic it all looks. Good luck, you will get the government you all deserve.

Anyone who would make the decision to elect a president because they had an appealing spouse is an idiot

I like the vacant bland stare behind Mitt’s wifes eyes. Hello, anyone home??But if you had to be around a Burger King plastic face your whole life this would be a realistic adjustment.

I just have to respond to those complaining about Matt Drudge’s pushing Newt. Do you not realize that the Drudge Report articles come from a large venue of media/blogs, and they are not written by Matt? The Drudge Report is the best source to find information of what is being printed from many camps, and most you will not find on other websites. Keep up the good work, Drudge.

GO MITT!!
January 28th, 2012 at 1:51 am
Mad rose: Your comment is based on a common misunderstanding of U.S. tax laws. Mitt Romney’s personal income was taxed at the 35 percent rate accorded his income level (often referred to as a tax bracket). The 15 percent rate was then applied to the dividends received after his personal income was re-invested. In our country, this particular rate is lower to encourage investment, one of the hallmarks of a successful capitalistic society. (There are many who would argue that the 15 percent rate is, in fact, too high to encourage growth.) As Mr. Romney has been living on his savings while running for office, the rate is not only quite legal but appropriate. Further, should Mr. Romney ever pass away and his assets be transferred, there would be a third tax–known as the death tax, or estate tax. As you can see, the accumulation of taxes over one’s lifetime has been and will continue to be significant. It is worth noting that over 40 percent of Americans pay no taxes at all, including some of what you would refer to as the “working louts”–and that, in addition to paying his fair share of taxes, Mr. Romney donated another 15 percent of his annual earnings to charity.
As no one else has raised the matter, I would like to note that it was my assignment to work in an official capacity at the 2002 Winter Olympic Games in Salt Lake City when Mitt Romney became the President and CEO of the Salt Lake Organizing Committee. At the time he was asked to take over this position, the event was mired in corruption and was running $379 million short of its revenue benchmarks. Mr. Romney revamped the organization’s leadership and policies, reduced budgets, and improved fundraising. The Games ended up clearing a profit of $100 million, despite the earlier shortfall. Not only did he work to ensure ample security following the September 11, 2001 attacks but the event overall received an approval rating of 87 percent. Mr. Romney and his wife contributed $1 million to the Olympics, and he donated to charity the $1.4 million in salary and severance payments he received for his three years as president and CEO.
As a resident of Illinois, I can only offer the above assessment, rather than an actual vote, at this time. It is my sincere hope, however, that the good people of Florida will elect the candidate that has the best possible chance of defeating Obama in November. We would like to see him return to Chicago where the damage he might continue to inflict would be on neither a national or global scale.
January 28th, 2012 at 1:59 am
Obama’s billionaire backers have big Bucks invested in destroying the candidates running for Rep. nomination. To beat Obama there must be deadlock for Rep. nomination before the Convention and a waiting surprise candidate waiting to unite the party and stump the Dems hit men.
January 28th, 2012 at 2:25 am
Classic Dick Morris strategy — accuse the other side of what you’re doing.
Go back to the 2008 campaign. What was the most negative ad of 2008 – the 3:00 am phone call? I’d say Obama’s done just fine with those calls. Haiti earthquake – 250,000 dead – including almost 5,500 Americans. World’s worst oil spill – they got cameras there, held BP accountable, negotiated $20 billion for the Gulf Coast. Remember the Valdez? It took over a decade to get a judgement and the Supreme Court threw it out. Last year, the Gulf Coast had their best tourism year ever and people kept their businesses open. Nothing’s a hundred percent, but geez, that $20 billion was given to businesses from Florida to Louisiana a heck of a lot faster than Katrina aid got out there. (Thank you BP – and I mean that). Next up, Somali pirates – take them out. Iraq, bring our soldiers home. Afghanistan, you’re next. Bin Ladin and about 20 more top Al Qaeda – you’re gone. Libya – Ghadafi’s gone. Life is not a movie script, nothing is perfect, but if John McCain had done the exact same things that Obama has done, he’d be looking at at landslide.
It’s time our country starts drawing the lines where they belong. This is not China with a central planning committee and a single party that rules and decides where people work and what industries grow. This is America – and PRIVATE enterprise and the people in CORPORATE BOARDROOMS make the decisions about who has a job and who doesn’t and if benefits and wages are cut. I’ve never heard of any of these companies calling the White House before they announce layoffs of 5,000, 10,000 or 20,000 employees – have you? So don’t lay it all at President Obama’s door about the economy.
January 28th, 2012 at 2:26 am
Mitt and Ann Romney are tremendous example of a strong, committed and faithful family. I appreciate that they are God fearing people of faith and moral conviction. What a breath of fresh air it would be to see their family in the White House. I believe Mitt to be honest, loyal, true and a loving father and husband. These things DO matter!

Only Ron Paul can save us. Dr Paul’s wife is lovely. America needs Dr. Paul for the term.

Ron Paul is the only choice for the term in office. Dr. Paul can save our country.
January 28th, 2012 at 6:10 am
She being a socialite-thats all they do is spend money and shine charm to manipulate and sell themselves and or their family-Romney does not associate with our type unless your a maid or gardener if he can buy your vote by simply saying Hola’or mentioning a Hispanic politician then well-votes are cheap!? I trust Newt Gingrich-at least he’s honest! through experience he has aknowledged and learned from his mistakes-more than Romney or Obama have proven by passing theirs on to someone else!
January 28th, 2012 at 6:22 am
Only a complete idiot would trust Newt Gingrich. I van’t think of anyone on this earth I would trust less.
January 28th, 2012 at 7:09 am
“As a Hispanic women I’m amazed how so many Hispanics have been used by Democrates including Obama.”
Not only the Hispanics, but women (and we all know how Obama treats women), gays, blacks, Jews, etc. …
January 28th, 2012 at 7:51 am
I like the fact that Gov. Mitt’s sons worked in South America. The family respects us. It would be nice to have a First Lady who has so many ties to Puerto Rico & our Gov. Luis Fortuño.
January 28th, 2012 at 7:58 am
If you voted for Barry Obama in 2008 to prove you were not a racist, vote for someone else (anyone)in 2012 to prove you are not an idiot!
I am also leaning toward voting for Mitt, because I want to beat Obama and he can do it. Gingrich has more skeletons in his closet than a body snatcher!
January 28th, 2012 at 7:58 am
Gee I thought we were voting for a president not a first lady. Some of you don’t like the candidates pandering to certain ethnic groups what would you call what Mitt Romney is doing? As for Newt, Let you with out sin cast the first stone.
As far as I am concerned Mittney is just a white Obama. We need someone with real backbone. I really don’t think you can get Iran to accept the Golden Rule.
Newt and Callista have received God’s forgiveness and that should be enough. Newt cannot buy his way into the WH he has to fight for it. If you want 4 more years of Obama vote for him or Mitt.
January 28th, 2012 at 8:11 am
Why would any conservative vote for or endorse Barack Romney?
Romney talks like a conservative, but when you examine his record as Massachusetts governor, you’ll discover he’s as liberal as Ted Kennedy was.
During recent debates, Romney bragged of his ability to work with democratic legislators to acheive significant accomplishments. What were Governor Romney’s achievements?
1. RomneyCare = ObamaCare
2. The Massachusetts Gun Ban
3. Excessive Massachusetts fee/tax increases
We need someone we can trust. May I suggest Dr Ron Paul?
January 28th, 2012 at 9:13 am
Ron Paul 2012!
January 28th, 2012 at 9:26 am
Flipping off a convoy coming the other way is a small pleasure for a small mind. be like Obama and flip off the entire nation from Air Force One at 30,000 feet on the way to a vacation paid for by us.
I am sure that Michelle Obama is now so very proud of the nation which is allowing her to live like in luxury and plunder the national treasury to do it.
January 28th, 2012 at 9:46 am
If NBC can make people drink donkey semen the media can sway voters minds about candidates and manipulate a debate. It’s true, donkey semen, check your search engine. The last debate was filmed by a liberal media outlet and Wolf Blitzer, the host is a liberal. Liberals want Romney to win, so Obama will beat him in November. The media will turn on Romney as it gets closer to November just like they have turned on Gingrich. Gingrich is the only that can make a difference in Washington. Ron Paul’s foreign policies are wacky. While Santorum is a good conservative he does not have the experience yet. Gingrich is the only candidate that can go into Washington and start making changes his first day. It will take a year for Romney to figure out what he was doing.
January 28th, 2012 at 9:50 am
I’m not involved with the campaign in any way, but am a Romney supporter in NH. I’ve met him and Ann a few times and know a number of people (for whom I have great respect) who are close to the Romney family – I do know that he’s a good man with a great family, that he’s a caring, capable, accomplished man who has the potential to be a great president.
Anyone who wants to go beyond the sound bites and spinmeisters can see that the accusations of ‘flip-flopping’ are actually the results of his being thoughtful and pragmatic about complex real-world issues, and he’s really been very consistent in balancing his own values with the need to work with others who are sometimes verging on hostile – he’s been very successful in taking ‘lemons’ (difficult situations) and ‘making lemonade’.
In the situations where a company is purchased, split up, etc., the company in question is often in trouble anyway – and chances are the jobs would be lost sooner or later, one way or another. It may not always happen, but my understanding has been that when Romney has been involved in those situations every reasonable effort has been made to offer alternate jobs, job retraining, etc. Some Union types preferred to lose their jobs rather than accept non-union help, and those are the ones who campaign against him now.
It is interesting to contrast Romney with Gingrich in a few ways – when Romney was ‘ganged up on’ by McCain and Huckabee in 2008, he looked at the situation and stepped out of the race gracefully, supporting the eventual nominee fully. Gingrich comes across as petulant and vindictive in comparison. That also leads to the next comparison; many people who have worked closely with Gingrich (and Santorum) are now strongly opposed, clearly disliking them and in some instances being very critical of their ability to work with others. The closer the past relationship, the stronger the opposition in some cases. In contrast, people who have worked closely with Romney almost universally sing his praises.
Romney’s responses to the tired old accusations about Obamacare’s similarities to the Massachusetts plan are quite consistent – it’s a states’ rights issue. He worked with a very liberal legislature to craft a plan that was pretty forward-thinking at the time (and based on ideas promoted by ‘conservatives’ like Gingritch designed to preserve at least a marginally market-driven system). It was an innovative experiment, with significant strengths and weaknesses; one of the weaknesses has been the vulnerability to subsequent additions to mandates on coverage and care by the liberal legislature and current governor, which have led to problems. As a physician in Southern NH, not far from the MA border, I’m pretty familiar with this issue. There is no ‘flip-flop’ there.
Gingritch is now accusing Romney of dishonesty over Gingritch’s ‘language of the ghetto’ comments. Come on, how disingenuous can Gingritch be? What language, other than Spanish (and possibly Ebonics), did Gingritch mean? What other languages are the subject of debate about bilingual education? It’s sad to see that most of Newt’s accusations are actually projection, in that he is more guilty than his target(s). It’s even more sad to see so many people supporting him blindly, even when his words and actions threaten to create hard feelings to such a degree that the division could threaten the party’s ability to defeat Obama in November.
If you look deeper than the spin, you’ll see that he hasn’t changed positions, and so isn’t likely to ‘change positions again’ – if anything, he’s more conservative than his competitors like to acknowledge. I’d encourage critics who say they ‘can never vote for him’ to dig a little deeper into the reality of the man.
Bottom line – Mitt Romney is a good man with a track record of successes and failures who has shown he’s willing to learn from both. No one else in the race for the nomination comes close in this way – some who have been in politics for years tout their leadership credentials, which have mostly consisted of ‘saying no’ or championing causes that ultimately have little to no chance of success. Few admit to learning anything.
January 28th, 2012 at 10:02 am
I think Romney’s wife is an attractive woman too. Would be a great 1st Lady, just not sold on her husband (not Newt either)…
January 28th, 2012 at 10:17 am
We need a First Lady and not a First Mistress.
I will vote for Santorum first and then Romney.
January 28th, 2012 at 10:19 am
re: Candidates’ spouses
I’ve always believed that had Hillary divorced Bill after they left the White House, she woud have been the 2008 Democratic nominee, and most likely our current president.
A divorce would have shown her personal strength and intolerance of his poor behavior that embarassed their family and the country.
January 28th, 2012 at 10:25 am
I sure hope Ramirez is not counting on Romney’s wife to get us out of the mess America is in. Yes, Gingrich has some baggage, but he doesn’t have as much as Obama. You know, I would like to hear from any of Obama’s past girlfriends or any of his students he taught in law school. Was Obama shy or what? The media also has not told us anything about the Ramon Corporation and Romney’s connection to medicare fraud. A vote for Romney is a vote for Obamacare.

Mitt seems honest and would make a good president. But lets face it nobody not even Mitt will be able to work with Left wing nuts in are Goverment.
January 28th, 2012 at 11:14 am
The problem with America is that they defer the problems to other people, like the government. Every 4 years they complain about how things suck. During the 4 years they never really get involved, never call or write their congresspeople, and never make a stink locally. They are the silent and the uninvolved, except they can blog, but that does nothing but preach to the choir. You need to go after our elected officials, because they are hired by YOU. Romney is the best choice.
January 28th, 2012 at 11:17 am
Nice to see a prospective first lady with class and composure.
January 28th, 2012 at 11:24 am
Callista Gingrich seems perfect for nights at the Kennedy Center where she could actually perform concerts.
January 28th, 2012 at 11:53 am
The treatment of Gingrich and his wife Callista is abominable and completely biased and unfair.
The media, RNC and Republican elites must be very afraid of Newt that they resort to politics of personal destruction.
Newt has been a tireless crusader for Conservatism and a better America, while Romney has been bilking the system as a Wall Street Insider and corporate raider.
Newt and Callista have far more grace, dignity and class than Matt Drudge and those commenting here.
Newt and Callista outshine you all!!!

Why do we even have an “Hispanic Leadership Network?” Do people of hispanic heritage have different concerns from the rest of America? If so, then how can they say that they are really Americans? We won’t have a truly united America until we stop identifying ourselves by what our ancestors were.
January 28th, 2012 at 12:23 pm
I am voting for Mitt Romney in 2012!!
A vote for Mitt Romney is a vote for all that is good and noble and praiseworthy.
His entire life is evidence of a discipline, principle and God-centered life!
We have one pass at this – we loused it up in 2008. I’m not passing this guy up again.
I think Mitt Romney has the potential, if allowed, to be perhaps one of the very best Presidents of the United States – and at it’s most critical hour!
Vote Mitt Romney 2012!!
January 28th, 2012 at 12:25 pm
All this talk of Hispanics, I don’t hear anyone saying anything about the immigrants fleeing from Cuba. I guess they don’t count as much. Seeking freedom from Castro’s commie time machine/gulag just isn’t popular these days. Our cost guard do such a nice job of making sure they don’t touch American soil and instead are returned to their prison.
January 28th, 2012 at 12:31 pm
If we are to sustain and defend our Constitution. If we are to defend American values and thwart the advancement of socilism here first and then abroad.
If we are going to stand up for God, our families, our country and our liberties – then we need to vote for the man we can trust and who will not bring business as usual to Washington.
We need a new paradigm, a new way of looking at governance with an eye fixed to doing what’s right!
I am voting for Mitt Romney!
I’ll vote for character and integrity.
January 28th, 2012 at 12:37 pm
Mitt is a good man. No one will argue that. He has a good family. No one will argue that.
Mitt is NOT A PRINCIPLED LEADER in public sector matters.
Unforgivable sins:
(1) Romney Care and Obama Care ARE THE REASON half the nation is ANGRY with government. Our way of life IS IN JEOPARDY every day the government ‘grows’ and Mitt has been instrumental in that growth.
(2) He was FOR THE ASSAULT WEAPONS BAN. NO, not EVER, to you take away our RIGHTS to protect ourselves from ‘threats to our liberty and safety’.
(3) He was FOR ABORTION before he was AGAINST ABORTION. How does a ‘conservative’ flip on this issue and not make a mirror crack?
What has Mitt Romney ‘done’, in his entire career, to promote the Conservative Agenda and American Exceptionalism in his state, nationally, or internationally?
…NOT ONE THING.
Seriously, Mitt Romney has NEVER done anything on a State or National stage, to promote an alternative to Socialist Democrat Orthodoxy.
He is famous for his abilities to ‘go along to get along’ and avoid ‘bold moves’…..
January 28th, 2012 at 12:42 pm
The RNC and establishment Republicans don’t need to destroy Newt. He is doing a good job of that all by himself. To all of you conspiracy theorist who believe the attacks are coordinated effort to hurt Newt>. Untrue. For the good of the party many people have kept their mouth shut about the real Newt. Now we have deicded to put country first and step forward to let the American public know who the true Newt really is.
January 28th, 2012 at 12:44 pm
I especially liked the part where Ann Romeny said that this was the first time she had ever been proud of being an American. Oh, wait, that was the ingrate who is currently sullying the White House. Sorry for confusing Michelle’s CRASS with Ann’s CLASS.
/Get them out, NOW.

BREAKING NEWS!
The next election is shaping up to be as big of a sham as the last. Do you know why Sarah Palin’s bus tour was really canceled? Do you know why she stayed 30 miles away from the second debate and chose the death of Steve Jobs to announce that she’s not running? Know what leaked out? Sarah Palin and Cain aren’t in the race for the same reason, the truth leaked out.

The reason why Gingrich did not fair well in the Florida elections is because outside of North Florida which is conservative, the peninsula is basically liberal and has a high population of Hispanics. Many believe Florida is a “southern state”. It maybe located in the South, but it is not part of the Confederate southern states.
Gingrich will win the true Southern vote. he will also score well with the evangelicals, most of the Republicans, the Baby boomers, The Tea Party members, small business owners, pro life vote, anti open borders vote, and many swing voters. It will be the South that will finally decide who our next President is going to be and it will not be Obama

Mitt and Ann are both native to Michigan, and I will tell you that as a Michigander, the main reason I would vote for Mitt besides his business acumen (which is sorely needed in this country right now) is because he is married to Ann. She is a true gem and epitomizes all that I cherish in a First Lady — someone who is real, warm, down-to-earth, modest, and not the least bit affected by wealth. The contrast between Mooochelle and Ann is night and day.
January 28th, 2012 at 1:22 pm
The Point here is that the way a man esteems and treats his wife says volumes about his character and his leadership. Romney is both of these. This man is a sleeper and could prove to be a great president; something (except for our protector George W.) that has been lacking since 1989.
January 28th, 2012 at 1:32 pm
” Ann Romney, who was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis in 1998 and is a breast cancer survivor.”
Interesting. Ann Romney had these and Mitt stayed with her and took care of her.
Mr. Gingrich’s first wife had breast cancer and he divorced her while she was in the hospital being treated for it.
His second wife had MS and he divorced her 3 months after her diagnosis.
I realize the Republican Party’s roots include the John Birch Society and the Ku Klux Klan, but it still stuns me that any Republican is evil enough to vote for Gingrich.

Every Mormon missionary is required to master a foreign language. That’s wonderful. What does a rich white Mormon like Romney have in common with catholic Hispanics other than the fact his great grandfather fled to Mexico 100 years ago to practice polygamy? I want a President with brians and a sense of hisory who is NOT the image of a pretty boy Romney Rhino type. Gingrich is a fat, very articulate, unattractive, idea man who has a Ph D in modern history and is being destroyed by GOP establishment. Sound familair? Look at a picture of Winston Churchill who was also a a fat, articulate “idea man”, who during the 1930′s warned Britain about the coming threat of Nazi Germany and the USSR. Churchill was rediculed by the left in Britain before WW II and by his own Conservative party thought he was a pain in the neck. We all know his role in WW II. Gingrich understands the threat of radical Islam and is a conservative who is being destroyed by the “moderates” and country club faction of the GOP. By chosing a pretty boy Rhino like Romeny the GOP might lose it’s chance for having one of the best Presdidents of this century.

Please read Deuteronomy 28:15 to the end of the chapter. It reveals what will happen if we do not keep The 10 Commandments. This may be the most important thing that Americans need to read today. It is the only thing that will save this nation from future distruction. Wake up!

I am in agreement with “he who is without sin, cast the first stone” because we are all commanded “to forgive.” Having said that, the American people need to be able to TRUST that the POTUS is going to honor his oath of office and put our country and freedoms first. How do the American people TRUST somebody that did not honor his oaths to two people he PROMISED to “love, honor, and cherish, til death do you part.” We can’t survive another POTUS that doesn’t keep his oath to protect the USA from “enemies, foreign and domestic.” The USA is already on life support. TRUST matters and that is where Gingrich fails miserably. Forgiveness-yes. Trust-absolutely not.

Just for the record no one is trying to deport anyone who is here legally. Most americans are not for illegal immigration no matter where the illegal immigrants come from. Stop spreading lies.

Gingrich seems to be keeping a close lease on her, sadly I’m sure she has a lot to say. None of these woman compare to Ron Paul’s wife, she is a down to earth great honest woman.

Bill Clay: those Hispanics who are lining up to vote have no worries because they are legal and a citizen or they shouldn’t be voting!
As a legal resident and if I came from Mexico or other SAmerican countries where the drug cartels are killing people not only in their countries but it is coming across our border I would wish for legal immigration!

25 years from now, I believe history will tell of a capable man who left a successful career in the private sector to serve as the Republican governor of a heavily blue state, and in that capacity learned the ability to work across party lines to accomplish a great deal of good. It will be said that that man was considered “not conservative enough” by many social conservatives in the Republican Party, to which his response will have been that he has learned from his mistakes and become more conservative over time. History will record that he ran against a once-popular, but ultimately inept incumbent president who had presided over a first term of staggering economic decline, failed foreign policy, and a general loss of faith in the American dream. But in the campaign, and then in his actual service as the President of the United States, his positive demeanor and his ability to win the hearts and minds of the American people and to build bridges across the chasm of divisive politics will ultimately have shown him to be the very best thing that could have happened to America at that moment in history to heal the wounds of a divided nation. Actually, history has already recorded this story: his name was Ronald Reagan. Looking back, can you imagine this country going through that period without him? But if it sounds familiar when you think about the current election cycle, well, maybe it should remind you of Mitt Romney. I believe that if we as Republicans have any wisdom to learn from the past, this exact same story will be recorded again.

To Mad Rose: It’s easy to understand how a Canadian doesn’t have any idea of how our system works and speaks from ignorance. Mitt Romney paid 15% of Tax on Capital GAINS, which means that money got already taxed at the corporate level at about 35%, so in effect his capital is taxed TWICE. And it is way too much since investment capital shouldn’t be taxed at all because it goes back into the economy to encourage enterprise. And this last sentence is for US citizens only: Vote for MITT ROMNEY and help restore America’s greatness!

I am sure that if you truly asked for forgiveness you were forgiven. My God is a forgiving God not a vengeful God. I am sure you have heard the story of Mary Magdalene.
Vote for Newt!

I guess we worship the same God, Funny that!
I think you have to do more than say, forgive me. I think you have to make up for the dammage you have done to other people. Kind of like Clinton taking to Rev (whomever) who was also having an affair, and let everyone know that he was forgiven.
BTW, were they married in the Catholic Church?

Romney has donated (I figure) 17 1/2 years of his life to service without any pay. In this capacity he worked with people who are in dire straights and needed advice and help with a number of problems. I don’t know any man running for office or in office that has done that.
Of course he can relate to people who have far less than he has. He understands what they are going through.
I don’t see many or any millionaires that have served for the years he has.
