Kendrick Meek endorses Frankel for Congress over Crist-backed primary rival

by George Bennett | January 19th, 2012

Meek

Former U.S. Rep. and 2010 Democratic Senate nominee Kendrick Meek is endorsing Lois Frankel‘s congressional bid.

Democrat Frankel is running in a primary against Patrick Murphy for the seat of U.S. Rep. Allen West, R-Plantation.

Meek cited his longstanding friendship with Frankel going back to their days in the Florida legislature, adding “I know of no better person to take on Allen West and replace his extreme obstructionism with a proven leader who can get things done.”

It would have been a shocker if Meek backed Murphy. Murphy got a $1,000 contribution from former Gov. Charlie Crist, whose independent bid for Senate in 2010 siphoned votes from Meek. Murphy’s consultant, Eric Johnson, was a strategist for Crist’s campaign.

  1. ALLEN WEST MUST GO Says:

    Game on!

Who wouldn’t want to take on the most insulting member of Congress?

  2. barbara Says:

Good Lord, what a scarey thought – Lois Frankel in the senate.

  3. Downtown Danny Says:

FRANKEL WAS THE WORST MAYOR IN WPB HISTORY!
Look at the bond repayments for a the millions she borrowed for a city hall that she refused to let residents vote on.
Frankel destroyed downtown – destroyed Clematis and left us with boarded up storefronts where there was a thriving street when she came into office.
She practiced total nepotism and hired her girlfriend – gave her an office right next to the mayors and let her spend $33 million of taxpayers money to tear down the most historic waterfront library in the state.
Frankel is corrupt to the core and should not be trusted with anything.

  4. mike Says:

If brains were dynamite, neither Meek or Frankel have enough to rattle their eyes! Two most corrupt politicians in Florida… its time for us to clean house.

  5. T 4 2, 2 4 T Says:

Wow, Kendrick Meek must be racist to oppose Allen West, according to the twisted logic of Palm Beach Repugnicans.

  6. T 4 2, 2 4 T Says:

@barbara it is the House not the Senate, but don’t let a little thing like facts get in your way of your qualified opinion.

  7. T 4 2, 2 4 T Says:

@mike yes lets clean house and start with West

  8. Janet Canterbury Says:

The US House is such a mess that it will take a good woman to clean it up. Yes, Lois Frankel is tough–but toughness and experience are needed to defeat Allan West who has shown his misogyny at every turn. Patrick Murphy is obviously a nice man with a rich daddy and NO experience. If we want to take Florida CD 22 back it will take Lois Frankel to do it

  9. Sarcasm Says:

@Janet—–you obviously don’t live in WPB, nor have you ever bothered to visit WPB. If you had, you wouldn’t be singing LOLO’s praises.

  10. Janet Canterbury Says:

    @Sarcasm
You are wrong, but I guess deep down you know that. We actually visit WPB quite often and enjoy the revitalized downtown area with its shopping and good resturant choices.
Now,if your candiate is Murphy or West, try giving logical reasons on which you base your support rather than “bad mouthing” another candidate. I’ll go first- I’ll give just 3 reasons why I support Lois Frankel’s candidacy:

    1) She has legislative experience, and she is an effective champion for women and families.
    2) Of great importance to our family, Lois is a strong supporter of Veterans. As the mother of a marine who has served in both Iraq and Afganistan, she knows and supports the needs of returning veterans and will not be quick to have our country jump into yet another war (as being suggested by most GOP presidential candidates)
3)Lois is dedicated to returning our country to fiscal sanity. AS mayor she had to balance a budget. Thats tough and you may not agree with her decisions, but you have to respect her willingness to make the hard choices.

    Your turn!

  11. ALLEN WEST MUST GO Says:

The real reason Downtown Danny opposes Lois is because she is gay-friendly and Downtown Danny is a bigot.

  12. Seriously Says:

Consider the source. Kendrick Meek seriously?

  13. Downtown Danny Says:

Frankel supports veterans? Then how come the WPB police department, full of veterans, hates her guts?
Because she lied to them like she lied to everyone else.
I am no bigot – it seems anyone who points out nepotism is called a bigot if those breaking the rules are gay, lesbian or a minority.
It’s wrong for any mayor to bring in only those people who agree with their private sexuality. It’s wrong for those people to them discriminate against those who do not practice their private sexuality.
That’s not bigotry – thats fact. What Lois did was bring in a gang of lesbians who thought they knew everything. They knew nothing. they ran departments & moral into the ground.
Call me names if you want – it does not change the facts.
The fact is Lois was corrupt, lied to everyone, and by the time she left everyone who initially supported her (due to Nancy Graham) hated her and does not support her now, including the democratic party.

  14. Traveler Says:

I do not regard negative comments regarding Kendrick as anything more than biased commentary. I just spent a few hours with Kendrick and can honestly say he is more sincere than most all politicos out there in the lime light. His strong convictions are refreshing and his love of family are testament to his beliefs. His son and daughter are foremost in his vision and I think all of us need to look at what is important to us. I don’t have a dog in the fight but if I did, I would have to weigh Kendricks opinion in my decision. Thank you, a devout Republican, but willing to listen.

  15. Sarcasm Says:

If you equate Lois Frankel to fiscal responsibility I would like to hear your rationale. She put the city of WPB into very dangerous financial trouble. The bonds that need to be repaid, the infrastructure that is seriously in need of replacement, she spent on “sexy” projects but neglected the wishlist items (such as clean water) that are mandatory for residents needs. A new waterfront, city hall that since layoffs they are only using the first 2 floors, and sweetheart deals with the unions have the citizens crying for city services that are non-existant. So…vote for Lois, but be careful what you wish for.

  16. Sarcasm Says:

I’d also like to add that as for Lois’ legislative experience…the legistlators do a peer survey and I believe, if memory serves, Lois had an effective rating of 17%, as voted by her peers. That’s out of a possible 100.

  17. Janet Canterbury Says:

    @Sarcasm
Once again you offer no positive reasons for supporting another candidate-you seem only to be only capable of attempting to vilify Lois Frankel. If that is all you can offer then please get your facts straight!

    1) The rankings you refer to are given by a panel of independent observers assembled by The Miami Herald. They are grouped in quarters, with four-star legislators ranked the highest quarter; one-star legislators ranked the lowest.
    Lois Frankel received 4 stars!
    2) Rep. Frankel ranked in the 1st quartile of Florida legislators in the last rankings – in fact she ranked 16th out of 120. That puts her in the 87th percentile NOT the 17th percentile as you erroneously cite.
    3) She did receive many other rankings (as all legislators do) from individual groups—for example Rep. Frankel was rated F- by the NRA and #1 by the AFL/CIO.

Why do you resist saying whom you are supporting for CD 22 and why?

  18. Downtown Danny Says:

In the modern age of politics we have learned to rule out those that will UNDOUBTEDLY do BAD THINGS.

Lois Frankel is corrupt, she has bankrupted WBP and in 2029 if you’re around when that 1st $69 million bond payment to JP Morgan comes due – COURTESY OF LOIS FRANKEL – we’ll see what you think of her then Janet.

As far as what people think of Lois Frankel & your touting of the AFL-CIO – go talk to the WPB Fire Department or Police Department or WPB City Workers and see how many of their union members support Frankel – ZERO!
