Atwater IG clears Bondi of meddling in foreclosure lawyers’ forced resignations

by Dara Kam | January 6th, 2012

An inspector general late Friday cleared Attorney General Pam Bondi of wrongdoing in the forced resignations of former foreclosure lawyers Theresa Edwards and June Clarkson.

There was “no discovery of evidence of wrongdoing on the part of anyone involved in the matter,” an 85-page report written by Chief Financial Officer Jeff Atwater‘s inspector general, asked by Bondi to look into accusations that her office mishandled the terminations, concluded.

“The report confirms the terminations had nothing to do with politics or outside influence. Rather, it was about doing the right thing, in defense of the people of Florida,” Bondi said in a press release.

The report drew criticism from two Democratic lawmakers who have asked for an independent investigation into the matter.

“From the outset, the investigation requested by Attorney General Pam Bondi raised troubling questions. There was little to no independence as she turned to a colleague, Chief Financial Officer Jeff Atwater to look into her own conduct and that of her office. Much like a close relative investigating as opposed to a distant cousin, the pronouncement by Mr. Atwater’s office of ‘guilt-free” is hardly reassuring – to me, or the thousands of Florida homeowners looking for protection from foreclosure fraud abuse,” Sen. Eleanor Sobel, D-Hollywood, said in a statement.

“Theresa Edwards and June Clarkson netted $2 million in foreclosure fraud damages for Floridians and were quickly fired thereafter. The termination of these attorneys is a violation of state policy by obstructing the prosecution of mortgage and foreclosure fraud. The inspector general’s report focuses, instead, on minutiae in order to avoid making a call on the big picture,” Rep. Darren Soto, D-Orlando, said in press release.

Atwater? The guy who ran Riverside Bank that crashed & was taken over by the Fed?
He is the final authority on whether or not Bamby Bondi had her 2 henchmen go after the trouble makers for big banks?

If you think that was an objective investigation – Atwater investigating Bondi – you are a partisan or an idiot.

That our entire law enforcement ability has been infiltrated by crooked Republicans like Steve Atwate,r who accepted millions from Riverside bank before it crashed, tells us our future is bankruptcy.

Nothing new in this story Republican crooks protecting their own.

Atwater to Bondi, “No. That dress doesn’t make you look fat.” If Bondi really wants to know the truth, maybe she should ask someone with some independence.

The problem is the Jeb Bush attys Bondi got stuck with when Jeb Bush’s $20,000 paid lobbyist (Dara Kam 2006 story)Adam Goodman “stumbled” into Tampa Bay visiting his sick relative and DECIDED Bondi should be the Atty general. (Of course, Jeb had the Boot Camp death investigated by Bondi and Hills County Oberman, some of us think payback reward).
In the meantime, the Peter Antonacci and Carlos Muniz “Jeb” choo choo train has emerged. Peter represents the foreclosure companies, and Carlos Muniz is Bondi’s general counsel.

No doubt, these men , especially Peter Antonacci have had this LEGAL choo choo train with the Atty general’s office since Charlie Crist was AG.
Charlie Crist flew on Blosser’s airplane, and he was the lobbyist for the indicted Cash America payday loan company, from Butterworth’s charges. Crist got BOTH an Ethics and Elections complaint, which he ignored charges for.

IN came Peter! He was the Vice chair-Ethics board AND represented the Cash America before the courts. Crist’s Ethics complaint went away (other lobbyists on the board paid into Crist’s campaign-Sen. Lee threw them off). And Peter Antonacci had Charlie Crist’s office late X-mas present when Crist became AG-the complaint was dismissed.

Clayton Roberts, who ran the Crist’s AG office during the dismissed complaint had a Christmas present too a couple years later-he was on a short list for judgeship. PETER was the director of the Judicial Nominating Counsel.
OF COURSE, this is an incredible co-incidence! :-)
