Perry leads Romney in Florida as Obama’s approval ratings plunge

by George Bennett | September 22nd, 2011

Rick Perry leads Mitt Romney by a 28-to-22 percent margin among Republican Florida voters as nine GOP presidential candidates prepare for a nationally televised debate tonight in Orlando, a Quinnipiac University poll released this morning says.

While the Republicans duke it out, President Obama‘s approval ratings continue to slide. Florida voters disapprove of the job Obama is doing by a 57-to-39 percent margin. That’s the president’s worst score in any state where Quinnipiac conducts polls.

In potential November 2012 matchups, Romney leads Obama in Florida by a 47-to-40 percent margin while Perry and Obama are essentially tied, with Obama holding a 44-to-42 percent edge over the Texas governor that’s within the poll’s 3.1 percent margin of error.

Romney held a 23-to-13 percent lead over Perry in an early-August Quinnipiac poll taken just before Perry formally launched his campaign.

Romney, who has slammed Perry on Social Security in the last two Republican debates, continued to do so during an appearance in Miami on Wednesday as he and Perry campaigned in South Florida on the eve of the Orlando debate.

  1. It's all about the Benjamin! Says:

Any person running for President who thinks that Social Security should be handled at the State level DOES NOT GET MY VOTE. NO TO PERRY!

Vote by who is going to get the job done and not by the Party. Vote by who is going to represent the people and not the party. Don’t look at them as “Republican or Democrat”, look at them as a person that is going to best represent our interest.

The 1st one with the following items in their plan to reduce the deficit has my vote:

The plan should avoid cuts to education, infrastructure, medical research, and other areas in light of our fragile economy. Social Security and Medicare benefits must be protected. The plan should cut our deficit by bringing our troops home and reducing the defense budget. The deal must include new revenues by ensuring the wealthy pay their fair share, closing loopholes, and ending special interest subsidies.

  2. Fair Share Says:

Social Security should only be given to those who contribute. If you only contrubuted x amount, that is all you are entitled to. It’s 1st grade math, if you take in $100, you can’t distribute $200! LIke taxing he rich more, talk about paying your “fair” share, what about those who contribute nothing, yet reap all of the benefits.

  3. Tea Lady Says:

Oh, the clear winners are the educated ones: Ms. Bachmann and Mr. Perry! They are both educated on the facts and on economics!

Social Security and Medicare are failed social insurance programs that we can no longer afford. Indeed, all the money has been spent. What remains in the Trust Fund are worthless IOU’s.

Therefore, Mr. Perry has the best solution! Social Security and Medicare should be given to The States (individually) and allow The People to vote on what to do about it in each state!

States’ Rights are paramount! Our federal government has gotten too big.

  4. gem Says:

    1. Having social security at the state level is ridiculous. Americans move from state to state. who’s going to track contributions from state to state?

2.social security is INSURANCE. Who ever heard of insurance only paying out what a person out in, thats ridiculous,

    3. Perry and Bachmann have no understanding of economies.

    4. We need to keep social security as it; just remove the cap to the wealthy pay their fair share.

  5. Old man Says:

Social security is being drained by millions of young mothers getting $674.00 a month for each child thay have. Stop the fraud, save billions.
The way to stop this is stringent evaluation of the recipients.
It amazes me that our elected officials are oblivious to this when it’s so obvious to me.

  6. Cici Says:

@It’s all about the Benjamin! You are absolutely on target with your analysis. This is exactly what everyone I know thinks as well. So, I am not sure who the “citizens” are that the press have been talking to.

  7. Contractor Says:

Obama is pretty much doomed. Mitt has the best chance to beat him. He is the moderate choice that MOST Americans want. We certainly don’t need a far right religious zealot running things for their cronies. Mitt!

  8. Jon KIng Says:

Obama will win again. Once he stands side by side these dolts and debates it will be all over. People will remember the brink of disaster at the end of the Bush term thanks to all the same policies the GOP wants again.

  9. Vietnam Vet Says:

Tea lady, Please do us all a favor and take a long walk off a very short peer.

  10. The Dude Says:

Mitt is the best solution for the U.S.A.

  11. Michael-David Says:

President “ZERO” on the way O-U-T……

  12. John Says:

I don’t care whether it is Perry or Romney, just get Obama the hell out of there!

  13. Liberservative Says:

You know, I am a Democrat and I am basically ashamed that I voted for Obama. He has been continuing embarrassing and ruining our country. We really can’t afford to re-elect him.

  14. mike Says:

Nothing surprises me in Florida anymore. We elected rick scott and that was about the dumbest thing Ive ever seen. Anyone who supports perry or bachman will go down in history as some of the all time biggest fools.

  15. carol canning Says:

    Please listen florida!
Romney is not perfect but he is an american and family oriented and more honest My first thought was perry but…..perry is another bush and also in the bilderburg group as obama is also as bush is.If you want to educate yourself look up the bilderburgs and the intentions for the new world order.. and how are government is run..Read everything and if you don’t believe what you read then you need to follow and put the puzzle together.. who we would never think is corrupt can be the most corrupt..I never voted for obama and knew in my heart he was bad..all talk ..no walk..If we don’t change and find a candidate who is not involved we are destin for ruination

  16. carol canning Says:

Just for your info… jesse ventura was a navy seal ,a governor,a fighter..if you want to educate yourself go to utube and put his name in and after that follow the puzzle parts to see if they fit..also note that no one ever speaks of the bilderburgs on tv or anywhere including Glen Beck which shocked me..If you do your research you will be shocked as to how our governement is really run..and maybe you will understand why so many countries hate us..sad but true!

  17. carol canning Says:

    Another comment!
After the no guilty of casey Anthony in florida I would say we are classified as idiots. Only in florida with the info brought out that anyone could come to the conclusion of not guilty.Really sad because she killed her daughter.Florida is one of the most important states in florida to elect so we need to get it right.
The average person does not have any idea where our government is coming from or who are really in charge.
Tv and the news channels are not going to give you any real truth so start reading online..Most of our government could care less about us and the ones that do don’t have much of a say in anything.Only we can change what has been going on for years.. If we don’t save america who will..not our government!
