Scott’s disapproval rating soars in latest Quinnipiac poll

by George Bennett | May 25th, 2011

Scott: 57 percent disapproval, 29 percent approval in new poll.

Florida voters disapprove of the way Gov. Rick Scott is handling his job by a 57-to-29 percent margin and a majority think the state’s new budget is “unfair” to people like them, according to a poll released this morning by Quinnipiac University.

Scott has the worst score of any governor in the seven states Quinnipiac regularly surveys.

Republican Scott, elected in November with 48.9 percent, has never had much of a honeymoon. He had 35 percent approval scores in Quinnipiac’s February and April polls, while his disapproval scores have climbed from 22 percent in February to 48 percent in April to this month’s solid majority.

About the only good news for Scott, according to Quinnipiac’s Peter Brown, is that “he has three and a half years to turn public opinion around.”

  1. nemo Says:

I think your Kenyan boy Irish emperor Obummer should pick Scott as running mate for vice-president in 2012.

Of course your DNC state run media always sanitize the news.

  2. Mark Says:

Regards the next three and a half years, “the only good news for Scott” — good news for him, maybe, but bad news for the rest of us …

  3. frank Says:

Recall this bad guy before it’s too late. Florida voters are such fools … electing Enron Republicans and these low lifes who want to eliminate Social Security and Medicare … a state of fools, and I’m being kind at that.

  4. Michael Says:

Great Gov Scott is focused on doing the right thing rather than the popular thing.

It’s refreshing seeing a man of principle being a leader, using his best judgement, leading our state rather than a fool looking over his shoulder at what the polls say.

Short term the radicals will demagogue about the “benefits” being cut for those who refuse to work. They will scream about how Gov Scott is causing unemployment by firing gov “workers” with no work jobs.

But as the next 4 years goes on we taxpayers will benefit from keeping Florida with a balanced budget and low taxes. And if all the bums who get money from the state need to move to New York and live of those taxpayer… Well more jobs for us when the businesses relocate here.

  5. npgator Says:

The Post is hell bent on trashing anybody who doesn’t carry the liberal message – i.e. Scott!

  6. @Michael w/ wool over his eyes Says:

Michael really now? “A man of principle”?? Is that what you call the a man who was responsible for his company stealing billions and then paying a 4 billion dollar fine for his and his close associates’ indiscretions?

You drank the wrong Kool Aid Michael soon you will be committing mass suicide with Scott and his elites who have a serious god complex and when the reality of the fact that he is just another human being (one with a nasty greedy streak) it will be too painful for him and his followers… suicide will be the only answer.

  7. Registered Independent Says:

Yes,Nemo, the democrats run everything in this state. How long have the republicans run their little redneck organized crime ring? Over 10 years? Now the tea bag zombies have brought their own brand of retardation to state government. How these scum bags convinced you tools to cut the pay of cops, firemen, and teachers while giving tax breaks to millionaires with second homes, billion dollar corporations (who already have the lowest state taxes in the country), and to give the house insurance companies a free hand to rape us is beyond me. You tea bags are fools. How does it feel to be used as a bit%ch for the rich? Take it like a man.

  8. Spence Says:

Michael says “Great Gov Scott is focused on doing the right thing rather than the popular thing.” So it’s “right” to put hundreds of thousands of people of of work? Maybe that has to do with his poor approval. I know his wealthy pals have his support, and that would be understandable.

  9. Haaa Look at his Picture above!! Says:

    Why the long face Rick??

  10. Daniel Says:

Michael, your use of the word demagogue is incorrect. It is not a verb, rather a noun referring to a leader who makes false promises to gain power, which is somewhat ironic consideing we are discussing Rick Scott.

  11. Jim Says:

The Quinnipiac Poll is not taken by the Post. Scott is doing a horribel job and is not looking after the best interest of residents, which you will soon realize when all these policies go into effect. Save $40 in property tax and pay an additional $500 in Property insurance. YOu keep thinking he’s helping you and see how far that gets you.

  12. Nice Says:

Well said Registered Independant I couldn’t agree more. These guys have declared war on upper middle class all the way down to the poorest of the poor. Too bad they are outnumbered.

  13. Truthman Says:

The only ones to blame for Florida’s economic problems are the Governor and the repulican majority in the Florida House and Senate. People will remember in November 2012.

  14. Mike Says:

Republicans have been in control of Florida’s government since 1998.

Simple question, how long does it take to get to the paradise Republicans say their plans will create?

Is Florida better today than in 1998,99,2000,01,02,03,04,05,06,07,08,09,10?

When will all the tax cuts bring jobs, when will fees stop being raised, when folks?

Is a decade and a half long enough?

  15. sue Says:

    Register Independant…right on.

  16. sue Says:

  17. raspalena Says:

Is funny to see how a man who was elected with a mayority of votes now has a 57% disapproval. Where are those smart individuals that voted for him? After all the proven facts showed against this crook before election the mayority of voters went after him anyway. You have what you chose and what you deserved. Don’t complain.

  18. Bill Neubauer Says:

    1. Obama has been president for most of three years, and he is still blaming Bush for the nation’s problems. Isn’t Scott entitled to a similar “honeymoon?”
    2. Scott is not the only governor who is doing the unpopular thing to restore fiscal responsibility. Look at Christie, Walker, the Ohio guy and Rick Perry in Texas. “It’s a dirty job, but somebody has to do it.” Too many people can’t adjust to economic changes and fail to see that state (federal?) bankruptcy looms.

  19. John Says:

Time for a voter recall on this guy then. Before he destroys this state entirely….

  20. Maria Says:

I read that Scott is a Skin Head Nazi. He certainly fits the profile.

  21. ............... Says:

Do the 57% of the people know exactly what he is doing that is not published? I work for the state and each day we get an update on what’s happening in Tallahassee, not just with the Governor, but the Senate as well. He is doing the right thing for the state.

Like one poster stated he is not doing the popular thing, but the right thing. Cut the wastefully spending, getting rid of dead weight, and there is alot of dead weight that should have been cut years ago.

There are some things that I do not agree with, but, we will just have to wait and see…

I do believe in making folks on assistance take a drug test, get reviewed on a regular basis, if not, why should I have to pay for your bad behavior.

I do agree with reducing the number of weeks for unemployment and go back to stricter guidelines. Why should someone sit on there lazy ass not looking for work and get assistance for 2-3 years. There are jobs out there if you take the time to look, present yourself professional and learn how to speak correctly and learn how to interview. There are all of programs to provide assistance with this type of training.

The one thing that I hope gets to his desk is the bill to send ALL illegals back to their home land. We have to stop giving a hand out to all the illegals. I am not just talking about the hispanics. I think you would be amazed at how many other nationals live in this state that are here illegal as well.

We have to start somewhere to get Florida back on track. There are way too many people doing the same job within the state. I hate to see people lose their job and I may be one of those people, but, we can not continue on the path that we are on now…

A liberal poll for a rabid progressive liberal Marxist pulpwad…

What did anyone think would happen when every single state ‘newspaper’ used YELLOWDOG JOURNALISM – publishing of known lies to demean an individual or group – against GOV Rick Scott for over 18 months now??

Most of us Libertarian Conservative TEA Party Republicans understand the baseless attacks will not end.

We are similarly disgusted that our Super Majority Legislature did not embrace significant portions of GOV Rick Scott’s proposals.

NOW, we can’t wait as GOV Rick Scott applies the line-item veto pen to over $1 Billion…

… can you save just how terrible that all will be for ‘the most vulnerable amongst us’??

By that you would be meaning those ZERO taxpayers that got the extra $5,657 EITC and $1,000 per rugrat RTC … and no COLA reductions indicated by the statutory CPI??

  25. !!!!!!!!!! Says:

  26. TheMan Says:

Bill your exaggerating, Obama has only been running office for a little over 2 years. Additionally, OBAMA is cleaning up the Mess that George Bush created. If your as smart as you always pretend to be, then you should know that Economies are usually being affected from things that occurred several years before the current date! So as much as you would like to deny it, Bush started this Huge Economic Downturn.

Scott is wreaking havoc on normal “Middle/Lower Class Americans” but doing all that he can to lick the rear end of Big Business. Thats why Scotts Approval Ratings are severly down, Americans are NOT as dumb as Politicians think we are

  27. B Says:

grade him as a person and I’ll bet he scores much lower than as a governor.

  28. B Says:

gang of fascist NAZI’s the whole lot of the Floriduh GOP

  29. John B Says:

Scott is only doing what is right for his inner circle of political buddies, doners, and the companies that will profit himself when he leaves office. Cutting Cops and Firemens’ pay is the right thing to do? That’s the “right thing” for the state? Penalizing people who have not had a raise in years? You people should be ashamed of yourself. When the “patriots” get robbed or their house burns down who do you call? The people you declared war on. The people who risk their lives every day protecting all of us. Shame on you all

  30. Ann Says:

The Palm Beach Post is infatuated with Rick Scott. Can’t really talk about any great things our inept, inexperienced president is doing….so they just trash Scott. PB Post always catering to the great liberal jewish majority in this county. What a shame.

  31. Alexandr Says:

    “!!!!!!”

Did God die and leave you in charge of us?

The last bastion of the the rabid progressive liberal loons who have no message of their own… is LIES repeated over and over again.

Nothing in GOV Rick Scott’s personal life has been anything but a true American rags to rich success story!

Not a single misdemeanor charge against this brilliant entrepreneur!

He has confronted adversity with trasparency, accountability and responsiblity… with honor, integrity and truth at all times!!

Those ignorant demeanors posting here are shilling the Marxist DNC line of the day… but fail to list a single actual thing this Governor has failed to tend to yet!!

  32. Yawn Says:

I think most people are shocked at the fact Gov Scott has actually followed through on his campaign promises…unlike his predecessors. Didn’t he campaign on the fact he was going to be brutal with the budget? Why is everyone surprised?

  33. limpwrist Says:

Rick Scott has a mob associate in his leadership coalition. Meet Joe Ardolina of American Truck Sales. He’s a former vice president in the now defunct H&W Refuse Service whose president was Anthony Carione, fingered by law enforcement along with his brother Frank Carione, as then active figures in the underworld. Another brother, Joseph Carione, plead guilty to defrauding the government as a co-defendant in a case that involved Colombo crime boss Andrew Russo. bit.ly/edERUe

  34. Henry Hill Says:

Hey limpwrist…does he know where Billy Batts is buried?

  35. no unions Says:

He’s doing a fine job. Cuts need to be made and a budget needs to be balanced. That’s the issue at hand. Nobody likes cuts so of course people will be angry.

  36. rukiddingme? Says:

Liberal democrats are uneducated, uninformed, unwashed, idiots who could not understand the realities of the state economics if they COMBINED all of their small brains and tried to figure it out.

  37. Rob Says:

You must be kidding. Do any of you think a no good CAREER POLITICIAN like Sink who lost millions of $$ for the state as CFO would have been a better pick? All states must cut jobs & benefits- (especially pensions) to get balanced. Scott is doing OK by me except for the lousy homeowners ins. bill he signed. All you freeloaders who are on the dole can get stuffed. We’re tired of paying for ALL of you & getting the shaft being middle class. Obummer is your savior?? Get a job & pull your own weight! We have to in our house.

  38. Bill Forrest Says:

What state worker likes Scott? 6 years without a raise and now a pay cut (3%) to add insult to injury. He has turned off more republicans than there are in existence. The “EDUCATION” state will become the “DUMB-DOWN” state after his term in office.

  39. !!!!!!!!!! Says:

He is a Skinhead Nazi Fascist!!!!!

  40. Get a Clue Says:

57% of those polled are clueless to anything the Gov has done or hasn’t done. Other than rely on the DNC talking points spewed out by liberal rags like the PB Post. Ask those that disapprove, EXACTLY what do they disapprove of? Not raising taxes? Balancing the budget by cutting wasteful and bloated govt.? Getting the out of control state pay and pension system under control? Give me a flippin break.

  41. JohnMo Says:

  42. HM Says:

-When stories about Florida ‘teachers’ molesting students on a weekly basis (because they’re not ‘teachers’ at all but whatever sordid soul is hired on to babysit at near welfare wages)are common.

-When you sit endlessly waiting for help aftwer the next hurricane because the first responders who actually want to make a living have moved to other states…

-When you have to drive 50 miles to get out of the urban sprawl that used to end just down at the end of the road…

-When you’re sitting crawling through an hour long traffic jam watching the rich who can afford 10 and 15 dollar tolls blow right buy you in lanes you paid for.

-When private companies own your parks, streets, parking meters, airports and beaches..

-When local megachurch preachers have final say over what and how your kid ‘lerans’.

….just think back to some of the cheap-azzed redneck teabag morons posting on this thread.

  43. Penrose Lamont Says:

    Shut up about Scott!

You don’t become a billionaire with a 9 million dollar beach house by listening to your servants.

Scott has a higher calling than governor of a failed state.

He will advance out TEA party positions and eliminate that pesky minimum wage that you floridians love so much.

Enjoy the sunshine, thats all you’ll have when he gets through with you.

But you knew that when you voted for him, didn’t you?

God bless and good luck anyway.

  44. The Truth Says:

Blah-de-blah-blah-blah…..these numbers would be exactly the same if Sink had gotten in. People just like to whine and complain about whoever’s in office. It’s an unfortunate sympton of having our state overrun with whiney-complaining northerners……

  46. JohnMo Says:

    Guys

Nowhere in this article does the following data occur:
    1. Questions asked in this poll.
The questions can be skewed to get whatever output you want.

    2. What time were the questions asked? People that would not agree with this outcome are probably working. I spent 35years as an electrical engineer and was never “polled” at work.

    3. Where was the data collected?
Depending on area; the demographics of the poll responders will contribute to skew the answer.

    4. Were the pollers truly an accurate reflection of the people being polled?
    Case in point.
Before Arnold Schwarzenegger became Governor of California; the residing Governor at the time employed an UCLA Professor to do polls of California residents.
The professor having more important tasks to do(in his own mind) tasked his masters
kept the money but re-directed this task to his masters students. The students being of
sound mind and knowing when they were being misused did their polling from the local bar. Being the liberal pin heads they were they made up their own data. Obviously this Governor proceeded to do all the wrong things. Schwarzenegger kicked his butt in the next election.

The Quinnipiac University Poll may or may not be A legitimate polling area; however unless you know the answers to 1 thru 4 you should be skeptical of the results.

  47. Moderate Says:

I don’t understand why teachers, cops, firefighters and middle class Floridians are being forced to accept cuts to pay and services, while the business elite are handed equivalent tax breaks.

But I do love how these threads devolve into juvenile name calling so quickly. Tea Bagger! > JEW! > Nazi! > Fag! >

Proud to participate in such reasoned discourse.

  48. GenEarly Says:

Go Rick! We got your back, pour it on, you got the Socialist-Progressives howling now. And you have been quite moderate in my opinion, Let’s get to work!

So it’s been 5 months, where are the jobs. So far any jobs were already set in place before scott, but lets see oh yea he has added over ten spots in his office more then any other govener and added $20.000 more dollars to there check. Wait for it, they are goverment workers, what happen to small goverment. Not him everyone else. We will all be paying more in taxes, why. Because the people who really need help won’t be able to go to the Health Dept they will go to the emergency room. Lord help us. I don’t mind change but Lord the man is nuts. There goes our sunshine state. He says the Corporations will do the right thing to keep us clean. Not gonna happen ever.

  53. GenEarly Says:

Mary, Mary Quite Contrary. Go ask your socialist buddy Obama for jobs, he’s had over 2 years and a porkulus stimulus!Didn’t you get any?
Move to Washington DC, the “inflation economy” is booming and lots of new government jobs too!

  54. Dempsey Says:

I think it’s time for an update/alteration to our First Amendment. This blog phenomena has produced some completely out of control rhetoric and utter B*** S*** from some really ignorant people. I cannot get through a thread without feeling dumber by wasting my time reading this crap. It’s time moderators delete the nonsense from the same jackasses. If people would post coherent, meaningful thoughts/opinions regardless of political affiliation, we all may become more globally educated and take the good points from both philosophies and fix the country. People are so narrow minded and can’t see the big picture, therefore our State and Country is going to S**T. It’s time to start hurting feelings and delete or block access from the few individuals who have nothing good to say. Maybe the morons will go away. Let’s start with that idiot Obiwan and his 10 other monikers.

  55. GenEarly Says:

They need some dark gators in Holland too! And you won’t have to worry about Rick Scott anymore. PS Watch out for the Muslims in your marijuana haze.

  56. Searcher Says:

    Michael, Bill Nueburger and Al-

Don’t you know that Gov Scott is the BEST THING that has happened to the Democrat Party in DECADES? The question to DEMS is, what are you going to do if your worst nightmare is elected? Well, the answer is to get out and VOTE and throw him and his kind out of office. The Independents put Scott n office, looking for a change. Right now, Charlie Crist is looking pretty good by comparison. LOL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  57. GenEarly Says:

Rick Scott is the BEST thing that has happened to the Republican Party in decades. His main opposition is from elitist RINO’s not Dimicrats who can’t elect a dog catcher in Florida anymore. Say good riddance to Bill Dufus Nelson in 2012.

  58. Searcher Says:

    JohnMO-

You ask about the SURVEY questions asked. Just click on the link in the article and they have the questions and the breakdown, by party, gender, evangelical status and geography. You think an engineer would look at the notes and wouldn’t ask stoopid questions like this:

We are in the midst of a recession( No, the Obama summer of recovery in 2010 did not happen),The Federal Government by ANY sane accounting standard is bankrupt, and there is no leadership in Washington DC.
Now, Gov. Scott after 5 months! in office has overwhelming majorities in Slightly Satisfied and Slightly Dis-Satisfied. Put it in real world context, even Dimicrats realize there is very little money at the State level, and CUTS are mandatory.
OR we could go the route of Illinois and raise taxes ,drive more of the business owners out of the state and have bigger deficits next year.
We voted for Scott and we will back him up, because we know money does not grow on trees unless your talking about obamaphoneymoney.

  60. dark gator Says:

Interesting how Florida cannot elect a real Floridian to office. Scott is not a real Floridian. He is a carpetbagger from parts unknown. Need to see his birth certificate.

  61. Ron Says:

Let’s see what the libs gave us. 9% umemployment, social security is broke, medicare is going broke, gas is thru the ceiling, a 3rd war, 48% not paying federal income tax and 18% on some sort of federal subsidy. Scott in 4 months, down to 10% unemployment from 12%, lower taxes, state workers contribute something to their pensions, tourism is up and the list goes on. The libs complain about everytnhg but they don’t even have a budget to present. Get real or go broke. Then nothing for anyone.

  63. Fed Up Says:

    @Mike,
You are so right. Hopefully people get out and vote this time. Our problems are made worse by our majority legislature that caters to the haves.

  64. Villages Controllers Says:

Our problems are made worse by the total control of the Repub-corruption of all government agencies in Florida by the Villages and Disney people.

Guvinor Scott first announce he was going to Eustis to sing his budget at the same place he announce his budget!

Then his bossman H. Gary Morse of the Villages told him he was going to sign his budget at the Villages, Hence the puppet will sign his budget at the Villages @ Lake-Sumter Landing at noon!

Good guvinor! Always do what your Villages master Morse tells you to do! Just done go illegally hunting with his family! But, he’ss let you use his private internatina airport in Leesburg where he owns the TSA and everything else! That was they can fly in from outside the USA and don’t have to be bothered with those silly little strip searches! Yes! If you are H. Gary Morse stealing seniors blind and killing innocent wildlife with your own gestapo and your own private international airport this is a great state and country!

Of course that was before 2010 elections!

Socialists in Florida will be losing Doofus Bill Nelson in 2012,and Rick Scott will be Re-Elected for a second term as Florida joins Texas,Not California, in real private sector job creation.

  69. Verify1st/Texas Says:
