West to hecklers: ‘You’re not going to intimidate me’

by George Bennett | April 27th, 2011

Conservative Shark-Tank.net blogger Javier Manjarres was among those capturing Tuesday night’s disruption on video.

FORT LAUDERDALE — It was a night of firsts when U.S. Rep. Allen West, R-Plantation, held his seventh town hall meeting Tuesday.

The meeting marked the first time hecklers disrupted one of his presentations, the first time an audience member got arrested (liberal radio talker and Air America alum Nicole Sandler) and the first time West passed up direct questions from the audience in favor of written ones.

West said the new format wasn’t an attempt to dodge tough questions. And he said he’s not going to be cowed by hecklers.

“I’m going to tell you this,” West said during one of the disruptions. “You’re not going to intimidate me.”

West hosts another town hall meeting tonight at 7 p.m. in Boca Raton at the Volen Center at 1515 West Palmetto Park Road.

How high is gas? What are you paying?

$4? soon to be $5 and then $6. (by the way that’s also a way to get increase revenue (HIDDEN TAX) to the federal government to fund the WARs in the MIddle East.

Israel is now advocating for more gas drilling and not to be DEPENDENT on gas from other countries.

Here in the USA, Obama gives $2 BILLION to Brazil to drill, Cuba has China drilling and in the USA….no drilling!

Obama is ruining our country. The democrats follow his lead. There are no democrats who are saying anything against Obama’s policies. THEY ENDORSE WHAT HE SAYS.

    OUT WITH DEMOCRATS!

    West is the man!

  3. Richard West Says:

No matter what your party affliation, there is no doubt that this president has been very lax in all of his promised
endeavors. He is a very ineffective leader, and waits for others to do his job, then steps in to take the credit. With those steps, he also must accept that his weak and vague stance on Libia was an embarrasment to the U.S. He made all the wrong decisions on the Gulf spill. He has not been an effective leader. He forgets that he is
was no elected to just be a talking head. It is so seldom that this man ever brings one of his intentions to fruition. He has divided this country like no other. If he stays this course, we are headed for an economic meltdown. His heart is not in putting this country back on track, but it appears that his intention is to put us on our back. Where is the pride, the passion and love of ones country? Ego seems to be the fuel that drives this man, and we need a leader who speaks less, and performs more. History is being made every time this man pick on a pen or approaces a telaprompter. An
unscripted declaration of intent, an unapolgetic gesture about this land that we all love, is long overdue. He is a slick, fast talking man, who will say whatever his audiance of the moment might be. A great speaker is only as good as the results that his promises are carried out. Obviously, this man has little real love of this country, orwe would not be on this downward spiral. Eough of the campaining, do the job that the Commander in Chief of the United States is elected to do. I don’t wish for my country to be eviserated or our constitution to be disrespected. This president needs to stop trying to become the nanny to a country who for hundreds of years has been the wise and caring parent to many needy countries. Isn’t it time that we stop trying to make everyone dependen on the government to feed them, clothe them, shelter them, educate them. Give
these people the chance to learn to take care of themselves. I fear that this administraion is so out of touch with the common man, that it will be too late before they realize that given direction and hope, most can learn to take care of themselves. No parent wants their children to be dependant on them for the rest of their lives. It is time that some of these folks who have depended on the government their entire lives need to learn to fend for themselves. I also fear that our country is so watered down with illegals, that we could not muster the type of loyalty and devotion that we had in past wars. We used to have a process that was in place to intergrate these folks, so that they could become legal citizens of the United States. This president doesn’t much care for our laws, and constitution, or our legacy. I hope that we are delivered from the ruin that has been done by this current government. I long for the days when more was made, played, and stayed in the U.S.A. God Bless our Great Country. I hope to see here great again.

At least Reagan, the ‘King of the Spenders’ only spent $4.00 for every 3 the Feds took in for his 8 years. He only ran the National Debt up 23.9% for EACH AND EVERY YEAR of his presidency.
GW Bush, however, took over a nation with 2 balanced budgets in a row. A surplus each year which was applied to the debt, an unemployment rate of 4%. He left with a budget in shambles an 11.1% PER YEAR increase in the debt. He did this, apparently, to ‘service’ the rich, and corporations that make all their products in foreign countries anyway. W left the unemployment rate at almost 8%. And of course the GOP, with it’s failed policies firmly in place, demanded that Obama create jobs in his first week on the job (forgetting that their mantra is supposed to be ‘government does not creat jobs’. Finally, these GOP’s expect Obama to balance the budget with tax cuts for the rich and corporations!!! Why is defecit spending only a concern for the Republicants when they do not control the White House, but they love the deficit spending when they have the White House?

  5. RU Serious Says:

Bottom line – Allen West voted for Ryan’s ‘Path to Poverty’. He voted to kill Medicare, rob the poor, elderly and sick and give our money to the wealthy. Meanwhile, he has single-payer, subsidized health insurance from the Government. If Mr. West hates America and the US Government so much, he should spare us all and resign!

  6. G Terry Says:

Yeah, what a guy- strong , courageous guy standing up for corporate interests and the ridiculously wealthy (I mean, they need all the help they can get, right?), screwing his constituency and using force to silence them.

    He should be proud *eyeroll*

I would also like to add that this “arrest” was VERY sloppy. No Miranda Rights that I heard, no declaration about the reason of the arrest. These should have been the FIRST thing out of that cop’s mouth: 1st- the reason for the arrest, 2nd- the Miranda Rights.

I hope she sues the PANTS off everyone involved. I have to say, I’m glad I don’t live in Florida. I’d be one of those “intimidating” people (me with my 5’5, 12 year old looking self with my toddler in tow- real scary I’m sure) “inciting” protest outside his office. Protests that are ENTIRELY LEGAL I might add, as long as they are on public property, and are not violent or blocking traffic.

“Oh, boo-hoo. People are complaining to me because I decided to screw the common man and vote to let corporations and the richest in the country STEAL BILLIONS from them. Woe is me!”

With all respect, Rep. West: Grow a pair.

I think a lot of people commending this creep and his hoodlums need to read the Constitution more closely. Debate is NECESSARY in a free country, especially a democracy. Not only that, it is our RIGHT. I thought that was what the Tea-party was all about? Standing up for your rights, holding the government accountable for it’s actions? Standing up for the common man, who doesn’t have the clout and pull that Lobbies and corporations do? What happened to that?

Did you know that many of the richest corporations paid at most 6% taxes (when they are required to pay 35%); some paid NONE. Yet you and I better pay our taxes ON TIME or all hell breaks loose? The government nickels and dimes US but GIVES them BILLIONS for FREE. It really is as simple as that.

Anyway, getting back to the situation at hand here, if you don’t want to talk honestly with your WHOLE constituency, then don’t have a “Town Hall Meeting”- have a dinner and invite your fans/friends.

Lastly I would add that perhaps Rep. West should look to his fellow conservatives’ recent town hall meetings. They ALL have people upset about the Ryan Plan show up at their meetings, and those upset are not shy about it. Some have even been meaner and louder than Ms. Sandler, yet NONE of them were arrested. Maybe those politicians know and respect the Constitution a little better than he. Rep. West should think about that next time he wants to have a “show” and preach from a pulpit (instead of an honest discussion with his constituency).

  7. Fed Up Says:

Thank you G Terry your post is excellent!

  8. reality Says:

West is a coward man who can not answer his constituents directly, This is not some dictatorship, this is democracy and Nazis like are not welcome in democracy.

Liberal purchase weapons because these Nazis want to take over the country.

If they are not able to pass their bill by vote they will try to do it by guns, So purchase guns and save the country from Nazis.
