Scott testified in DC on pill mills – watch live

by Dara Kam | April 13th, 2011

Gov. Rick Scott testifies in front of the House Energy and Commerce Committee about prescription drug abuse.

Gov. Rick Scott will appear before a Congressional committee on Thursday to testify about prescription drug abuse.

Watch the hearing live now.

Scott will join Gov. Steve Beshear of Kentucky, a Democrat, at the hearing entitled “Warning: The Growing Danger of Prescription Drug Diversion” at the House Energy and Commerce Subcommittee on Commerce, Manufacturing, and Trade chaired by Rep. Mary Bono Mack.

Scott, who previously asked lawmakers for a repeal of the statewide prescription drug database law enforcement officials say is crucial in cracking down on prescription drug abuse, yesterday signed off on the latest state House pill mill bill that would keep the database, restrict doctors’ ability to dole out the drugs and establish new standards for pharmacies. The compromise raises hopes that the House and Senate will strike a deal on pill mill legislation before the session ends on May 6.

It stinks to have a governor that we have to watch and question his every move.

  2. Patty Says:

    Who voted for him?

  3. nemo Says:

What is Rick gonna say to Congress? “Come on down and get ya some?”

Having Scott and Beshear there together is a perfect economic example of supply and demand.

  4. Eekabug Says:

I don’t think Scott knows if he’s coming or going. He keeps flip-flopping on so many different issues. He really needs to go. Patty, I ask that question everyday when his name comes up, who voted this idiot into office?

  5. BobinBoynton Says:

And we’re trusting him when he says he is selling off Solantic? The only way we can hold him to not making money on Solantic is to NOT DO BUSINESS WITH SOLANTIC URGENT CARE CENTERS! Anything less puts money in this clown’s pocket. I’m glad he finally saw the light on the Pill Mill Database. We need the database. I go to Pain Management on a monthly basis for a legitimate reason. I’m not worried. If this helps save lives, I’m all for it. We need to start preserving the world we are leaving behind for our children. Speaking of which, we need to RECALL RICK SCOTT!

  6. hit the road Says:

Oh, NOW he’s got something to say? Sure, now that supposedly he will not benefit from Solantic, he’s all for the database!!! Well, probably a bunch of BS out both sides of his mouth!! Who voted this Dumb &*@#$ into office? RECALL NOW!!!!!

  7. ric Says:

Scott is testifying? He will probably
    invoke the fifth again.

  8. lip service Says:

They manage to BAN Four Loco, Harmless Herbs, Bath Salts etc sold in convenience stores in a matter of weeks…but they cannot seem to STOP what amounts to FDA APRROVED/GOVTREGULATED Legailized synthetic heroin?

They don’t stop it because they do not want to stop it.

    Plain an simple.

Greed. All talk , all lip service, just like the bank bailouts.

  9. Oh My Says:

In a perfect world any one of the other governors attending this hearing would place Scott under citizens arrest for aiding and abetting the illegal use and distribution of drugs from Florida.
Scott would then be tried in that state and jailed for life for his blatant disregard for human life.
Too bad scumbags have no conscience.

  10. dark gator Says:

Scott for Prez! Well, VP at least.

  11. only money Says:

INdeed. Can you imagine if some NON FDA approved herb or dietary supplement was allegedly KILLING 7 people every day in Florida ALONE! Can you imagine how fast the STATEATTY and Cops and Gov and Politicians would line up to ban it in less than 24 hours?

But no. This is a Govt Regulated FDA approved type version of Herioin we are talking about…OH , yeah and Doctors and Politicians Driven Big Pharma and Lobbyists are making Billions, so who cares if OXXYS pill mills are killing 7 people every day in FL? Its only money!
