Cannon: “We’re going to do everything we can” to get Scott corp tax cut

by John Kennedy | April 28th, 2011

House Speaker Dean Cannon made a rare visit to the House press gallery Thursday evening, saying he’s optimistic about an on-time finish to the session last week — and hinting Gov. Rick Scott’s corporate income tax break would emerge, somehow.

“I’ll just say this: Number 1, that’s his job, to advocate for his position,” Cannon said. “We’re hammering out the positions of the various conference committees. He has been eminently reasonable throughout this entire session…

“We’re going to do everything we can to get him some meaningful corporate income tax relief. It’s a big issue he campaigned on. No promises, too soon to tell,” Cannon concluded.

  1. Hopeful Says:

Republicans are shooting themselves in the foot on this one. More people will either be directly impacted or know someone who was impact by the billions in cuts to services and education. But my guess is very few will be or know someone who may be hired because of a tax cut. Democrats or real Republcans better step up quick and claim the common sense majority that wilk or are being negatively impacted by this corporate friendly budget.

These legislators can ALL kiss their jobs goodbye for good in 2012. There’s a powerful tsunami of angry middle class American workers who did NOT vote for corporate socialism, and it’s going to wash them right out of Tallahassee. They underestimated their constituents because only 48% of Floridians voted last time. But this is a new day, and there’s going to be a massive tidal wave in 2012; and no specious voting bills will be able to prevent it.There will be nowhere for them to hide. We need a good flood to clean out this bunch of hypocrites. It’s coming!

  3. Carol Says:

That’s a big 10-4 to both Hopeful and Ms. Vicky!
Let’s ALL tell these greed-run-amok legislators YOU’RE FIRED the first chance we get!

  4. Ms Vicky Says:

If these legislators have ANY brains at all they will end this budget session WITHOUT being able to agree! They will run like hell from the dictates of a governor who is clearly delusional, out of touch with the soul of Florida, and despised by a huge majority of our population. I’ve been watching Florida’s political structure for a few decades, and I’ve NEVER seen anything the likes of what is happening in 2011. Scott has galvanized what used to be a diverse population into what is now a majority of enraged, motivated middle class workers. They now see what happens when they don’t take voting seriously. This governor is the BEST thing that could’ve happened to Independents, unhappy Republicans, and Democrats. He has, in just a few months, defined the Tea Party as a pack of power hungry, naive, misguided losers – a legend in their own minds, soon to become an embarrassing memory for the Republicans.

  5. LadyMarian Says:

What gets me…we’re seeing the backlash against the teabaggers for their extremist agenda, but there are people out there who are against the teabags and anti-Obama?!?! What is the alternative to Obama? Teabaggers or Republicans who bow to the Teabag agenda! Do they actually think that someone like Trump, who was born with a silver spoon in his mouth, knows what it’s like to live paycheck-to-paycheck? Will he do anything about companies that offshore jobs? Do they actually think that any Republican candidate, who is pushing through these draconian measures, actually gives a hoot about the middle class? Wake up, people!

  6. limpwrist Says:

Rick Scott has a mob associate in his leadership coalition. Meet Joe Ardolina of American Truck Sales. He’s a former vice president in the now defunct H&W Refuse Service whose president was Anthony Carione, fingered by law enforcement along with his brother Frank Carione, as then active figures in the underworld. Another brother, Joseph Carione, plead guilty to defrauding the government as a co-defendant in a case that involved Colombo crime boss Andrew Russo.
