Biz groups want immigration reform blocked, Scott sez doesn’t go far enough
by Dara Kam | April 13th, 2011Even as business groups are asking lawmakers to back down from proposed immigration reforms, Gov. Rick Scott supports giving law enforcement officers the ability to ask for proof of status when they pull someone over.
The Senate immigration plan does not currently include that component – one of the most controversial features of the Arizona law officials there are now rethinking.
“First off, the federal government needs to secure our borders. Also we need to have a logical immigration policy that works. We need to make sure that there’s a process for people that want to come into our country to work for a short period of time to work that they can go home, that’s step one. We’ve got to work with the federal government to do that. Step two, if somebody’s in our country and doing something illegally, they should be asked if they’re legal or not if they’re stopped by law enforcement. So that’s where my big focus is,” Scott told reporters this morning.
Yesterday, Scott joined forces with some of the same business groups, including the Florida Chamber, who formed a new coalition backing the governor’s proposed pension reforms for state workers.

Rick hasn’t learnt anything from the “Old” Brewer. He is out to kill the businesses in his state. Agreed this is a menace but there are better and sensible ways one can adopt. Every state intending to come up with own their individual bills should all come together and take up the issue with the Feds. I understand there has been failure in this regard, so push your own states members of congress to support a sensible and workable solution to deal with some sort of comprehensive yet implementable reform.
I don’t why Rick believes that a traffic violation is illegal? Many traffic violations are simply small mistakes. Not many, knowingly intend to drive unsafely.
It feels like he is going to alienate his state. In an already terrible economy, displacing hundreds of thousands of consumers makes absolutely no sense at all.
That said, I don’t believe the illegals are saints. This is a hard to deal with issue, so why not fine them and screen them and put the contributing guys on a path to legalization.

Ahh! Before you go getting all teary eyed about Illegal Aliens and the scum companies that hire Illegal’s listen up. Being an Illegal Alien in the United States is against the law. Being an Illegal alien in any other country is against the law we just don’t inference our law. When a police officer runs your license your statues should show automatically. That ends profiling period. Floridians spent 5 billion dollars on Illegal Aliens last year. Not one elected official has even mentioned a bill to stop this spending. Enforce the law or leave with the Illegal Alien you support maybe there country will give you food stamps,free education,free medical. Good luck with that

Sure wouldn’t want to be a brown skinned person in Dixie, Levy, Citrus, Hernando, or Pasco counties if this law passes.
The hillbilly rednecks still run this state and after decades of framing black people and treating them like second class citizens, there are many who would love a return to the days of old in dealing with hispanics.
I am a white guy in Florida from out of state, and the constant daily racism is unbelievable. I just left a meeting on a business deal to buy a peace of property and the owner, made some racist comment about black people without batting an eye.
It is endemic in Florida and law enforcement officials are no exception.

Every State that doesn’t invest in the constraint of illegal immigration enforcement, is going to be invaded across their state borders. In the frontier state of Arizona that is battling the Dept of InJustice, the Liberal Court system, the open border crackpots as they try save the State from economic collapse, because foreign nationals stealing jobs, stealing entitlement and literary paying nothing into the State coffers. It been proven beyond the shadow of doubt, that other than the TEA PARTY caucus, politicians feel they have no responsibility to slam shut our borders. This is an accurate assessment when president Obama’s Leftist backing allows drug and people smuggling allow Mexican trucks go into operation throughout our nation. All free Trade markets agreements are completely unfair to the American people. Our president promised to straighten these unfair treaties, so we have a level playing field; this still hasn’t happened.
California’s notoriety is being labeled THE Sanctuary State, that just as Nevada, Arizona have been drowned in debt so is California with a $26 billion dollar deficit. It has been brought on partially by uncontrolled illegal immigration and the drying up of public welfare entitlements, meant for legitimate Americans and residents.

It’s pure greed, ego and rot in the business community, that is exporting US jobs and delivering to this country impoverished foreigners, who taxpayers are force by law to pay for.In addition “Secure Communities” should be the law of the land, to detect immediately the hundreds of thousands of illegal alien criminals amongst us. Everybody–no matter who is being processed for an infraction or Felony, should be fingerprinted and if illegal, loaded into a ICE van.
Rep. Ed Royce (R-Calif.) has introduced a bill (H.R.1274) titled “Keeping the Pledge on Immigration Act of 2011″ that would increase border security and strengthen interior enforcement. Among the bill’s provisions this legislation would: 1. Will provide up to 4,000 additional national guard troops patrolling the southern border; 2. Will reaffirm language mandating “operational control” of the border as defined in the 2006 Secure Fence Act; 3. Will provide double and even triple layer fencing by September 30, 2014; 4. Will provide additional visa security screening for high risk visas including in-person interviews and data sharing. America is importing poverty at an accelerating rate and billions of dollars are being bled from every American State.
In the report, Ed Rubenstein, president of ESR Research and a former director of research at the Hudson Institute, reveals that the IRS knowingly allows illegal aliens to defraud taxpayers by getting cash through EITC payments of up to $5,750 for a family of five. The IRS also refuses to implement recommendations from its own Inspector General’s office that could stop massive EITC fraud that costs taxpayers as much as $13 billion a year. the illegal have to work every day for a paycheck, no like a bunch of american that stay in a couch daily waiting for an unemployment check for 3 years in a row o living from the welfare,

With a broken immigration system, law enforcement will not take care of the issue. Florida is an ideal state to put into work an immigration law like the one in Utah

Interesting comments, but don’t “we” all have to show I.D. and produce a valid driver license if we get pulled over? Why should anyone be exempt, regardless of their immigration status?

Really I want to see who is goin to work on your farms, take of your kids, “the angel” and clean your offices!! Because , all I see are mexicans and latin people working under the sun .Even on construction sites when , if, you seea “white ” american ,they are inside the cars, it is too hot for them to be out under the sun!!!And, before I forget ,PLEASE GO BACKto your history, ONLY ,AMERICAN INDIANS ARE TRULY AMERICAN,all the rest are GERMAN,ITALIAN, ALL “WHITE” ARE NOT PURE AMERICAN,THEY ARE JUST BORN HERE.Someone, in your family had the courage and the strenght to come and WORK HARD for you .So, if you dont know your roots ,please dont talk.Because soon very soon you could not any food to buy,not because you didnt have the money ,BUT BECAUSE NOBODY WOULD PICK IN THE FARMS.The will be a very good lesson for ALL.The americans always had everything to succeced, and when things dont work right, they blame others.
