Springtime for Rick Scott

by John Kennedy | March 8th, 2011

Gov. Rick Scott has sent tremors through Tallahassee with his plans for eliminating almost 8,700 state jobs, trimming employee benefits and cutting spending.

But the capital city is trying to make nice. Organizers have selected Scott as the first sitting governor to serve as the grand marshal of the annual Springtime Tallahassee festival on April 2.

“The decision was not politically motivated at all,” Richard Musgrove, Springtime’s president, told the Tallahassee Democrat today.”

Musgrove said Scott’s selection was in keeping with the 43rd annual event’s earlier themes. Springtime’s first parade was dubbed the “parade of governors,” Musgrove noted, although Scott will be the first Florida chief executive actually at the head of the line.

    Thank you Palm Beach Post.

    It’s Springtime for Hitler!

The correaltion is absolutely appropriate, it’s unfortunate the irony is wasted on the locals. The satire being played out here is definitely amusing for the educated world!

    Germany(Florida) was having trouble
    What a sad, sad story
Needed a new leader to restore
    Its former glory
    Where, oh, where was he?
    Where could that man be?
We looked around and then we found
The man for you and me
    LEAD TENOR STORMTROOPER:
    And now it’s…
    Springtime for Hitler(Scott) and Germany(Florida)
Deutschland(The South) is happy and gay!
We’re marching to a faster pace
Look out, here comes the master race!
    Springtime for Hitler and Germany
Rhineland’s a fine land once more!
    Springtime for Hitler and Germany
    Watch out, Europe
    We’re going on tour!
    Springtime for Hitler and Germany…

The irony is not wasted on this local. The Springtime organization has historically leaned Republican and corporate, so it’s no surprise they picked him. But if you think “the locals” don’t get it, come on up and watch as he parades down Monroe Street past thousands of state workers.

So glad to see the Floridian sense of humor. I was at the Lincoln Day Dinner in Martin. I crashed it, and I am not sorry. I noticed Scott didn’t have the guts to face his fans, all of whom had paid $150 a plate to be there. I read in PB Post afterwards, he must have whisked in at 7 p.m., how he called educators a “special interest”? He’s in for a long bumpy ride. he can slurp at the Koch trough all he wants eventually he’s going to have to answer to actual Floridians and not this crowd that uses our state as their tax condom.

“The locals”? Do you think we’re all hicks up here? Leon County has more college graduates than any other county in the state last time I checked.

I don’t really understand why they had to put him in the parade at this time, but trust me, people up here in hickville will have an absolute field day.
