Early GOP poll shows West leading Frankel

by George Bennett | March 25th, 2011

Viewpoint Florida, a polling outfit associated with Republican consultants Randy Nielsen and Pat Bainter, has released a survey that shows U.S. Rep. Allen West, R-Plantation, with a 53-to-38 percent lead over West Palm Beach Mayor Lois Frankel.

Frankel launched a Democratic bid for West’s District 22 seat this week.

The Viewpoint poll of 809 voters shows West and Frankel tied at 45 percent among independent voters. West had a favorable/unfavorable score of 50/36 while Frankel’s rating was 28 percent favorable and 36 percent unfavorable.

Florida Democrats, though, were quick to raise questions about the survey, saying its sample overly favored a GOP candidate.

Party analysts said redistricting next year will change the boundaries of West’s district. But the Palm Beach-Broward county district normally draws a stronger Democratic turnout in presidential election years.

  1. HM Says:

South Florida Democrats! Your ‘tenure-ocracy’ method of choosing candidates will destroy your party.

You can’t beat Allen ‘Wackjob’ West. Think long and hard about that.

  2. Vincent Says:

During the campaign, I can personally remember Lt Col West saying that he believes in Term Limits.
He then further said – I heard him – that he’d never serve more than two terms.
Even when people asked him to reconsider that idea.
    We’ll see.
Politcians seem to act like addicts for their jobs.

  3. LaQuishaNiqua Says:

Im happy frankel is running. This guarantees a West victory. Frumpy frankel is 2 hairs from being unimportant to anyone. Shes another body on the trash heap of politics.

  4. HAHA Says:

Gee, a REPUBLICAN pollster shows the REPUBLICAN candidate leading.

  5. flataxpayer Says:

WOW, never underestimate Lois’ ability to win an election. She announced this week and already she is tied with West for independent voters.

  6. HankS_FtLauderdale Says:

I’ve been to many of Allen West’s town hall meetings, and have stopped counting the number of Democrats who stated they support our Congressman. He is not about right or left, he represents all Americans. He speaks of courage. “The first tenant of leadership is courage.” West continues: “Leaders know what ‘right’ looks like, and they don’t worry about the next promotion.”

This is well beyond election politics. Our Congressman is clear in his mission — to help save the Republic.

  7. half pint Says:

Frankel will just embarass herself yet again. I’m grabbing the popcorn and taking a seat in the front row.

  8. Food Fight! Says:

I agree with HM’s comment above; tenure-ocracy will destroy the Democratic Party but West is also a unique brand of crazy. This fight will go down as one of the ugliest in US history. Frankly they both suck. Alas our politics have become so toxic that good people don’t try.

  9. Jeff Says:

Hank is is full of Crap today as he usually is when he posts comments.
Funny coming from such a right winger bragging about West’s non partisanship.
West has time and time again stated his contempt for those who do not share his strict ideology.
many in this nation understand that the only people dragging down this Country are those who vilify working Americans while propagating the interests of corporations, the military industrial complex, and the richest of Americans.

Lois just announced so this poll doesn’t mean anything.

  10. Travis Says:

West is moving on to bigger and better things in 2012. Count on it.

  11. bbnlw Says:

I seriously worry about anyone who would vote for that nutcase West. For the poster who claims West is ‘nonpartisan’. Lay off the drugs, pal. Clearly you’ve already had way too much of whatever you’re on.

  12. Darwinist Says:

Lois found out that once you feed at the public trough its hard to give it up. She intentionally didn’t tell the Board of elections about that precinct out west so her candidate would be sure to replace her in WPB.

  13. Blackman Says:

I’m not too keen on Frankel, but anyone is better than the ego maniac, decommissioned war criminal. Allen West represented our country poorly as a soldier and is doing the same as a politician. He believes that harsh treatment of others makes him appear more effective. It doesn’t.

  14. huh? Says:

How is this even a freaking story????? A “poll” is conducted by someone with a clear agenda, for a district that wont exist in a year, and yet you report it. George, get your shyte together, and pull your head out of your ass.

  15. Searcher Says:

Do you think Lois will make it past a Primary? I don’t think so.

Of course, I would love for Sarah Palin or Michelle Bachmann to win the GOP Presidential nomination, but that won’t happen either!

  16. Lives off public Says:

Frankel has had her time. Tired of professional politicians. She has lived off the public for decades and decades.

  17. David Castro Says:

Lois is not going to be a push over. She’s got a lot of money in her war chest and access to a whole lot more. You can say it because somehow the J word is like saying the N word nowadays, but in business, sports, war, whatever the challenge, you can never count them out or down. They are very competitive people. I don’t like Lois Frankel but I wouldn’t take her lightly and West should not either.

  18. constitution 101 Says:

I STILL WANT TO KNOW WHY LOIS FRANKEL
DID NOT PAY HER SPEEDING TICKET.
ANOTHER DEMOCRAT POLITICIAN WHO IS ABOVE
    THE LAW.

  19. huh? Says:

    @lives off public

Considering Allen West has never had a job not paid for by US Tax Dollars, id say you probably should come up with a better argument bud.

  20. same ol same ol Says:

    Huh? . . . .

    Cut George some slack man!

He is probably a very nice guy who is only trying to fill his required inches-in-print. Like most other papers the Putz is in a declining industry and George is probably just trying to hang on for as long as possible.

Remember . . . he is still better off than the local 20% or so who are unemployed and seeing little evidence that things will get better in the coming year of so.

  21. Dinah Says:

I will vote for Frankel. The polling was obviously republican biased. Palm Beach County Democrats far outweigh republicans. West is a wacko uncle tom.

  22. Whitey Says:

Career Politician and FUGLY looking he/she LIB. West better start acting he cares about his constituent’s if he wants to keep job.

I live and vote from my home in The Shores of Jupiter but his office keeps telling me that I am not in D #22. That was same mistake klein made before he lost position.

Disenfranchise our 650 families and West will voted out like that P.O.S. klein.

  23. once republican Says:

I hope this is a joke we don’t need Frankel anymore and we don’t need West. Lets have some other interesting democrat who can get the job done and who can put its all about me agenda aside and focus on the peoples needs so we move forward.

  24. South Palm Beach Says:

Frankel could still very well win, especially if districts are redrawn in a more proportionate manner (as Floridians had voted last year to do.)

Still, I think there are other candidates than Frankel who could better excite the constituents of District 22 to rid themselves of Allen West once and for all.

I think former state senator Dave Aronberg would be an ideal choice.
