Allen West: CPAC star

by George Bennett | February 12th, 2011

U.S. Rep. Allen West waits for his interview with Geraldo Rivera

WASHINGTON — PostOnPolitics didn’t catch the dozen or so GOP presidential hopefuls who appeared at the Conservative Political Action Conference, but The Hill says most of the White House wannabes weren’t as enthusiastically received by the activist crowd as U.S. Rep. Allen West, R-Plantation, was tonight.

Click here for The Palm Beach Post‘s coverage of West’s keynote address.

Democrats and some nonpartisan political handicappers believe conservative firebrand West will be vulnerable in 2012 when he seeks reelection in a district that Dems John Kerry and Barack Obama won (though decennial redistricting will create new lines before the next election).

Perhaps. But West is a certified rock star with conservative activists. As he walked around the Marriott Wardman Park hotel this afternoon, he was repeatedly stopped by college kids asking him to pose for pictures, by a guy from California who wanted his autograph on a cowboy hat and by the vice chairman of the GOP in Kings County, N.Y., who used his camera phone to snap a shot of himself and West.

West did scheduled interviews with Internet-based PJTV, Geraldo Rivera of FoxNews, Human Events TV and West Palm Beach-based NewsMax. As he walked from one interview to another, he also paused for impromptu interviews with a young man from “Future Voices of America,” with one of the hosts of “We The People Radio” and with a guy who recorded West’s thoughts on the situation in Egypt.

While waiting to do the NewsMax interview, West ran into singer Pat Boone, who picked up a lifetime achievement award from CPAC earlier in the day. Boone, accompanied by his wife Shirley, was sporting a “Kill The Death Tax” button on one lapel and the U.S. and Israel flags on the other

Allen West will be the Commanding General on the war against the liberal influence in the US.
Liberals are the problem. 2012. Solve the problem.

  2. l Says:

go west, a strong and positive voice for the conservative party something that has been missing in the party for a long time.

  3. dounome Says:

There is not one member in Congress that belongs to a “Liberal” Party. It is just name calling!

  4. albert camus Says:

Allen is definatly the star of our LOG CABIN TEA PARTY GROUP…. OH WEST!!! OH LA LA…

  5. veritas Says:

    albert camus:

Why do you say this? Did you see him at one of your Log cabin meetings?

  6. Carol Says:

duonome, FYI – the Democrat party is often referred to as the ‘liberal’ party. West is the right man at the right time. Seems he has liberals’ pantyhose and Jockey shorts tied up in a wad. They tried slinging every bit of mud they could make up about him, and it didn’t work. He was elected, and now he keeps saying what America has to hear. I would trust this man with my life; I would not trust the current occupant of the White House with my life.

  7. dissent Says:

    Ron Paul 2012

  8. Imeanreally Says:

“West, who had completed almost 22 years of active service, was charged with violating articles 128 (assault) and 134 (general article) of the Uniform Code of Military Justice. He was processed through an Article 32 hearing in November 2003, where he admitted he was wrong to fire the pistol and was fined $5,000. LTC West accepted the judgment and retired with full benefits in the summer of 2004″

This guy is a fake and a fraud. Even the Army had no more use for this nit-wit. The Army retired his azz after 22 years of service as a Lt. Colonel. He should have been a full bird after that much time. He is living in some kind of dream world. 1 term.

  9. I know who you are Says:

Joseph L Cooke, is that you Ed Fulop? Leader of the South Florida 912, what is said to be an inclusive group but just another front for RWNJs and tea party dolts. Same tired old slogans.

  10. AW SUX Says:

Any one notice West is so busy giving interviews and speeches he has yet to sponsor one piece of legislation?
That which he has cosponsored are mostly right wing agenda items that alter the constitution, such as repealing amendment 14, or they are power grabs to alter Federal Checks and Balances, or minor bones to the military.
This man does not and will never represent South Florida or its interests.
This political adolescent who has only been voting for a few years has a lot of growing up to do.

  11. P.Salsbury Says:

Ron Paul’s speech was the best of all of the potential Presidential nominees. My favorite speaker, hands down, was Congressman Allen West. I have the utmost respect for Col. West; the man has the courage of his convictions and conveys them with eloquence. I loved his speech in its entirety, and was most impressed by his framing of the importance of maintaining emphasis on the family. Politicians often use soundbytes with regard to family values, but Col. West was able to frame the topic in a way that explained why the family is so important to the continuing existence of America and its liberties. I hope to see this man as President in my lifetime. America needs him.

  12. john a. Colon Says:

Col.WEST is a man of vision, values, and valor. These things separate him from your average Congressman and are the reason he has the respect of his constituents and will win another term.

  13. Ed Fulop Says:

To “I know who you are” –

I know who you are, Seth Platt/NOWEST. I sign my name to my words, unless I’m baiting your crap on these blogs with my own “KNOWWEST”, turn about being fair play and all. Did you stop using those handles after November 2nd? I guess you didn’t want to eat any of the crow you were due, eh? What a coward.
BTW, RWNJ is so LY. Work on some new names to call us, while conservatives work on saving our country.

  14. I know who you are Says:

Seth is not the only one who has your number Ed. You are listed.

  15. confrontingLiars Says:

So when is West going to propose the dissolution of the VA Hospital system? After all, it is socialist, government run health care. And we all know from Mr. West that government run health care is bad medicine besides which it is un-American. Same for Medicare. Oh, that’s right, the phony needs those voters. So much for his (and theirs) “Conservative” principles.

  16. Billbo Says:

I predict right now, (and don’t think I’m a racist, because I’m black myself) but I’ll predict right now, IF we survive the mess Obama has driven us into without being destroyed or overtaken, I guarantee you, American citizenry will NEVER elect another black human being, no matter how right or left the person claims to be. The excuse we have for a president now, has totally ruined that chance of ever happening, and blacks everywhere should be embarrassed he’s the first we let be our example. He’s an idiot beyond anyone’s imagination!

  17. Hmm Says:

After the absolute catastrophe of George Bush, maybe we should never elect another white man either.

  18. Educator Says:

The Right Wing Fascist Republican Tea Party has found its very own Uncle Tom. Congrats!

  19. Oxy Limbaugh Says:

Yes Billbo, you are black and I’m Donald Trump. You may disagree with his policies and pine for the good ole days of G.W. Bush but to call this man an idiot is laughable and shows a clear lack of intelligence. Perhaps we should elect a great scholar such as Palin, Bachman, or maybe a Huckabee…

  20. Billbo Says:

Well “Donald Trump,” I guess you’d be equally “shocked” then to learn I think GW was an idiot as well?
I realize you liberal freaks are always paranoid about the possibility of a black person disliking your god Obama, but I’m proud to tell you, there are MILLIONS of us smart enough to see through his perverse ways of destroying the United States. And yes, I would take someone “MORAL” like Sarah, or how about a J.C. Watts?
If they’ve glued themselves to the homosexualized CPAC then forget about em!

  21. cincerly Says:

I predict that, if congressmen like West, the Tea Party and the same-thinking other GOP legislators have their way, we will continue to see the deterioration of liberty; civility; human rights; worker’s rights; the economy; the environment and job creation.

If you haven’t been watching the (right) news (you won’t find it on FOX) legislation being promulgated in states with Tea Party leaders and GOP legislators you – the Tea Partiers and other GOP believers – will continue to be led down the primrose path to the destruction of the American dream, the American ethic and America as we either know it or believe it to be.

You will watch as America becomes a third world country as the rich get richer and working men and women struggle with no minimum wage; elimination of child labor laws; no jobs; increased poverty and homelessness.

You will see increased pollution of water, air and our general environment. The planned deterioration of education and elimination of higher education opportunities will only serve to create a generation of helpless, uneducated people who no longer protest because they are struggling just to survive.

And all the while, the wealthy elite, big banks and corporations will continue to earn obscene profits on the backs of the poor while they outsource business to other countries until – and it won’t be long – the deliberately subdued working force of the US makes it profitable to do business here again.

We are already a country with a hugely disparate wealth distibution. Which side do you think you will be on??

  22. Jane Ford Says:

@ Billbo, I know you posted your comment a couple weeks ago but I just saw it and wanted to say I think you under estimate us white Americans… I think those, white independents/democrats, who voted for Obama (NOT I) have shown they don’t care if the person is black, white or anything else, they just want the right one in there to do the right thing… I don’t think for the old-school democrat, that becoming a socialist or communist or Muslim country was the “change” they had in mind either.

I don’t know where West stands on all the other issues we care about such as: God and country, education, abortion, gay rights, health care, government spending and so on but I do like his stance on terrorism.

Knowing his military career would be on the line he didn’t hesitate to pull the trigger on his weapon next to a terrorist’s head which led to the intel he needed to accomplish the mission and also kept my husband, my son and many others safe while in Iraq.

I, being white, would vote for male, female, black, white, brown, purple with yellow pok-a-dots, etc. I don’t care what they look like, I care what’s on the inside! Americans have come so accustom to the outside package that most no longer checks the contents as long as it looks good or sounds good, society is sold. Too lazy to think for themselves or do their homework. Why should they, they have others to do it for them, right?

As my husband says, everyone today has a price and most would sell their mama for a buck. Today I say, even their kids are worth .50 cents. That’s a sad day in America but I for one would vote for the right person if their character is as M.L.K. spoke of. I am living his dream.

People, wake UP! The “change” and the American Dream Obama and his liberal friends are talking about is NOT what M.L.K. was talking about. You had better look at who he’s surrounded himself with and what they all stand for! ITS NOT FOR YOU!!! It’s for a one world government, under global law, and look at all the other countries in dire straights and ask yourself which one do you want to live like or under. Keep in mind his Muslim roots. No matter what Obama says, his actions and love for his Muslim brotherhood and anti-Christianity speaks volumes… Are you deaf?

PLEASE WAKE UP AMERICA! RE-EDUCATE YOURSELF AND START WITH THE 10 COMMANDMENTS AND THE CONSTITUTION! I don’t want to go back, I want to keep moving forward but truly in the right direction…

  23. Billbo Says:

Jane, I responded back here only to you because I can tell your civil and moral and you gave a well thought out response. The racial connection I make is because Obama didn’t “win by a landslide,” hence, for this generation anyway, it’s going to be a long time before there will be enough people that trust a black person. You’ll notice, I said I’d consider a J.C. Watts, but the blacks of the U.S. hate his guts. But Jane, I have to tell you, I was once in love the ideology of the Libertarian political ideology too, then I researched what they ultimately want and what they really are. Basically, if you had an across the board libertarian Gov., you’d have total anarchy and chaos, because in the end, they want ZERO moral and ethical control. A true libertarian would demand to be allowed to do as the “gays” already do, illegally, e.g. masturbate in the public square? – sex free for all? Plus, they leave the poor and elderly and sick to fend for themselves. No, they won’t advertise that, they’ll even rebuke someone like me who points it out, but look at what their people say, and, their manifesto’s? Basically, it’s a radical liberal Gov., WORSE then what we have!
