Who needs the Tea Party Caucus? Rubio doesn’t join, but co-sponsors health care repeal bill

by George Bennett | January 26th, 2011

Rubio

Republican Sen. Marco Rubio told reporters in Washington this morning that he won’t be joining the Senate’s new Tea Party Caucus. Rubio, a favorite of the tea party movement, has voiced reservations in the past about giving inside-the-Beltway formalization to a decentralized, grass-roots movement.

Lest anyone question Rubio’s tea party cred, the rookie Senator’s first piece of legislation is co-sponsorship of a Senate version of the House-passed bill repealing the 2010 health care law.

republicans and other t-baggers don’t have a positive message and instead of working on the issues, they focus on the 2012 election. This isn’t a sport where one side wins and the other looses. we all loose when re-election is more important than the peoples business.

The tea party is here to stay as long as politicians of all parties continue to spend my tax dollars like drunken sailors. The left wing media does an amazing job of failing to expose the blatant misuse of tax dollars.
If we stop funding every social program including, the UN, the EPA, the HEW, the HUD, the Dept of Education, etc. all., as well as bringing our troops home from every country in the world!
Let Americans spend their money the way they choose too, wow, a novel idea.
Instead the politicians are god, and must decide how much of our own hard earned $$ we get to keep to keep us powerless. The founding fathers had it right! Bring on the tea party!

Mr. Rubio was well advised on this decision. Individual votes on the issues will come and go and he has changed his position on issues before. Why formally link yourself to the lunatic fringe branch of your party and damage you main stream appeal forever? When the pendulum swings back to the left in 2012 being associated with that group will prove to be a liability. He certainly looked uncomfortable sitting next to Senator Nelson last night. Do you think he was worried about getting coodies?

  4. JKM Says:

Rubio has played the Tea Party like the fools they are – useful idiots. He now has to distance himself from their particular brand of crazy so he can start a presidential bid campaign.

  5. Steve Says:

Senator Rubio hasn’t played anyone. He’s right when he says the Tea Party is a decentralized, grassroots movement. In a body like the Senate where there are only 100 members there’s no reason to have a Tea Party Caucus. His votes are what counts, not what group within the Senate.

  6. cincerly Says:

Let’s see. What are the tax cutting tea baggers willing to do without first? Food safety, clean water, clean air, good roads, libraries…..

We know that they don’t care about Social Security, Medicare and Medicaid or that everyone (else) has adequate health care and good public education.

The haves just want to keep on having and don’t give a rip about the rest of the people.

  7. Trent Says:

I like this move. I think we’ll see Rubio distance himself from the Tea Party more and more … despite his words.
