West is one of two black Republicans in the House. The other, Rep. Tim Scott of South Carolina, declined to join the Black Caucus. Conservative West acknowledged he’s likely to find himself at odds with the liberal group of lawmakers.

It will be refreshing to have a voice in the CBC that speaks for the mostly white rich district which he represents.
It is important to let blacks know that there are many angry whites out there, and one black guy, who think that the racial disparity in the black community is all their own fault and not a product of societal injustices or racism.

So racism is the reason blacks live in the ghetto? Is racism also to blame for the muggings, drug dealing, murders, teenage pregnancies, diseases and unruly behavior they bring to their communities?
I guess racism is also to blame for their poor grammar, poor education, poor parenting and general lack of civility?
I’m sure racism is the reason so many blacks are incarcerated at such high rates. All those drug dealers, rapists and murderers are innocent because someone else is racist.

Agreed, Aubrey. It flummoxes liberals, kind of like when a formerly gay man ends up heterosexually married. If homosexuality is (as the left claims) a condition from birth like race, then that individual threatens the whole liberal paradigm. Of course, if homosexuality is merely a lifestyle choice, then it can’t be protected as a “civil right.” Black Republicans, former gays, conservative celebrities–liberals treat all these as pariahs or, at best, oddities.

Allen West will be a force of nature on Capital Hill and will demonstrate in no uncertain terms that conservatism is not about color, it is about character. A man of principle and intellect who will command respect in the black community and beyond. As a “white guy” I couldn’t be prouder of what you have accomplished in service to your country. Mr. West criticized Mr. Obama for gooing to see the troops under the security of night. He said that if Mr. Obama send the trops to risk their lives he should be able to risk his life. Did he forgot already that it was not Obama who sent those troops? Did he forget that the war started with Little Bush? And did he forget about the press party at the White House where Little Bush was joking about not finding weapons of mass destruction while our young men and women were dying or risk their life in Iraq? Did he like that president?

Mr. West was an Army Field Artillery Officer. I’ve got news for all of you that haven’t been in the military, the Army does not but its best and brightest officers in the Field Artillery. They are called “gun bunnies” for a reason. I do not think Mr. West is even a tool with an edge in the shed, let alone the sharpest.

Conservatives, particularly southern conservatives, are not known for their intelligence these days. Some of you would better serve your cause by simply not posting.
To the rednecks who have posted here: I know you bemoan the loss of the preferential treatment you would have recieved in past generations but times have changed, so I suggest you get over it. You have no clue regarding the problems of the black community so you should probably worry about yourself and your own considerable personal shortcomings. For starters, ask yourselves why you have such hatred for people you think you are superior to and want nothing to do with.
Just do it on your own time Bubba, not while I’m waiting for you to pump my gas or salt my fries. I may be black, but I’m far too busy making more money than you to wait around while you think it through, lol.

Bitterness. Thus is all I’m reading from the Latinos and Blacks leaving their hate filled posts. The only racism being exhibited is apparently coming from my non-white readers. Anyone and I mean anyone, white, black or fricking purple who is do obviously filled with hate is not leading a successful life. The black community has created its own failures and has got to stop the blame game. Tara look at the vast amount of successful East Indians and Pakistani who in one generation in America are performing most blacks and frankly many whites. Not to mention the similar success of hundreds if thousands of Asian. The racist, hate filled blame-the-whitey blacks need to look in the mirror and take personal accountability.

Reading through these comments has made me depressed. Black folks cannot be blamed for ALL their problems, but I agree that they can be blamed for the approach to resolvong their problems. Black folks didn’t create Jim Crow and a system of slavery, but they live with the ramifications of those things. Its pretty insensitive to tell a black person to get over it.. Its like telling a grieving person to get over someone that they lost….but at the end of the day black folks need to realize that you can’t hold onto the past and expect to move forward.

I like west, but now I am suspicious of him after joining the CBC, we need leaders that are color blind and work for the American Patriots period! not any one race. Those blacks that keep bringing up slavery and other dead issues only perpetuate racism. My ancestors migrated here long after it was abolished yet they and I have paid the burden of “affirmative action” I am really sick of people playing the race card,I treat people on a one to one basis,in my life I have seen more racism from blacks than white. This country is losing ground in the world. Islam is threatening our freedoms and we need to pull together as one unified people. Past is past, look forward America!

1) As for Allen West, he talks a good game now, but as soon as your monkey makes a mistake and says the wrong thing, like Michael Steele, he’ll be out too! If West is smart he’ll just keep quiet like that big black ape on the supreme court, Clarence Thomas…who does not believe he was born a black man. I’m not surprised our black men have problems when they become successful and forget where they came from and who supported them along the way, their black mothers, sisters, brothers, hell the black community…making sure their sorry a$$es stayed on track to do well in life…please!!! Despite my anger, I wish Allen West the best.
2) Let’s see who’s a dumb a$$…too many to count. Please remember a racist is not just one who speaks ill or acts violently towards others outside their race. A racist must also have the ability to deny those outside of his race the equal opportunity ECONOMICALLY, like the U.S. Gov’t did for hundreds of yrs., the banks, mortgage companies, the Bushes, Ronald Regan, corporations, the boss on a job, etc. Many corporations and people inheriting all that old money are good examples, they all got their money on the backs of slaves…and now you all say blacks should be able to recover and get over it? You try coming up from nothing while at the same time fighting the same racist attitudes today on your job, at the bank, or anywhere big money is required to be doled out. That is what the conversation should be about with regard to racism, but all you dumb a$$es wouldn’t know the difference between a racist and someone who is prejudice…that’s what we all have a tendency to be towards one another, prejudice, because we fear what we don’t know by nature.
