LeMieux on 2012: No Senate run if ‘a Jeb Bush, for example’ gets in race

by George Bennett | December 6th, 2010

WEST PALM BEACH — Republican U.S. Sen. George LeMieux, whose 16-month appointment ends next month, told a Forum Club of the Palm Beaches lunch he’ll decide “pretty soon” whether or not he’s running in 2012, when Democratic Sen. Bill Nelson is up for reelection.

He was asked afterward what some of the factors will be in his decision. He mentioned his family first, then said he’ll consider who else is running.

“If I feel that there’s somebody who would do as equal or better job than me for our country, then it would be smarter for me to step aside and allow me to spend more time with my four kids who are 7 and under,” LeMieux said.

“If I look out and don’t think that there’s someone like a Jeb Bush, for example who’s going to run and I don’t think there’s someone who’s going to be a problem-solver who’s going to go to Washington not to be a career politician, but go there to do the work that’s needed and come home, that’s going to be compelling for me.”

Bush has ruled out running for president in 2012. A spokesperson wasn’t immediately available to discuss the Senate race.

Either that or if some other lobbying group offers him a fat deal like he got a few years back.

  2. RodneyWard Says:

This guy’s a right-wing snake in the grass just like the rest of them. Nelson would eat his lunch, and the polling proves it.

  3. V Says:

Someone as good or better than him wouldn’t take much.

  4. Herbie Hancrock Says:

Maybe that Grayson fellow from Orlando. Now there’s a real stand-up guy. A Democrat, right?

  5. LizaH22 Says:

Rodney, I wish I could tell you he was right wing, cause then I might have a reason to vote FOR him lol!

George you did not represent Floridians as it US Senator…you never bothered to even set up a website so we could email you with our problems or comments.

YES, you were generally a moderate Republican vote…you even said a few things Floridians generally agree with.

BUT, let’s face it, you entered a Devil’s Agreement to be GOV Chuckie’s placeholder…not your own man nor ours!!

We can and will do much better…plus, you already know Jeb Bush has said he will not run for ANY political office in 2012…or were you confused there also??

Our new Lt Gov might just be the right Republican candidate for our next US Senator…a black retired Navy female officer that knows how to get her hands dirty to fix things??
