Crist asks feds for disaster declaration

by Dara Kam | December 30th, 2010

Gov. Charlie Crist is seeking a federal emergency disaster declaration for nearly three dozen Florida counties, including Palm Beach, Martin and St. Lucie, impacted by severe cold weather and frost.

The disaster would allow farmers and other agricultural business owners to access federal disaster funds to cover the losses from damaged crops.

State officials estimate the cold snap caused at least $270 million in economic losses.

Only a small percentage of people from the oil spill disaster managed to get a federal Loan. But there was that one guy in Palm Beach that managed to get $500,000. Funny the spill didn’t hit the east coast

  2. Alicia Says:

Since it is the tax payers money, shouldn’t we ask the tax payers, not the Government? As a tax payer, the answer for money is NO! It is winter, winter weather can be cold, even in Florida. Plan for your losses like the rest of those in business.

  3. What Has CharLIE Got Against Lake and Volusia Says:

So CharLIE gets help for all these counties except Lake and Volusia. Major fern and citrus operations in both of these counties have suferred massive losses. Could this be his last dig at the political bosses whom he feels turned against him? Lake county’s political boss Bob McKee was an early turncoat to Rubio! Mori Hosseini and Harry Sargent along with his stupid remark from Carole’s south Florida home about Volusia county getting too much “liquid sunshine” during the floods caused CharLIE a lot of grief.
