Kaufman quits as Allen West’s chief of staff, decries ‘electronic lynching by proxy’
by George Bennett | November 11th, 2010Fiery conservative radio talker Joyce Kaufman just announced on the air that she has decided not to be Republican U.S. Rep.-elect Allen West’s chief of staff.
Kaufman’s selection caused an uproar as critics pointed to some of her past controversial statements. On Wednesday, she said she’d received death threats.
West’s campaign just released this statement:
“It is with deep regret that this Congressional office and the people of CD 22 will not have Joyce Kaufman as my Chief of Staff. Joyce is a good friend, and will remain loyal to South Floridians and to me. I will always seek Joyce’s counsel for being a good Representative of this Congressional District.”
On her WFTL 850-AM show, Kaufman said West’s foes were using her to try to destroy West.
“I will not be used in an electronic lynching by proxy,” Kaufman told listeners. She added she’s staying on the air, so her critics will be hearing more of her than if she’d gone to Capitol Hill.
“It’s going to be your biggest nightmare that I didn’t go off quietly to Washington,” Kaufman said.

If there is a time our nation needs an effort to unify, and tone down the divisiveness, it’s now. C’mon colonel, you know that. Are you gonna make some tough decisions to improve morale and cameraderie, or do you choose to perpetuate the split? Do something that unifies and rallies us together despite our differences. Frankly, the only thing that scares me about Kaufmann is her stated unconditional loyalty to Israel. That is enough for me to decide that she is unworthy of any influential position for West, who may be in a position to influence US foreign policy. There are already far too many Israeli apologists in government, far in excess of the less than 2% of the population that Israeli-Americans comprise.

Sigh, Could it be possible that at some point in time, hopefully in the near future everyone will grow up and put their energy to much better use. I am appalled at the childish, poorly thought out comments, and the worst of them are from our political leaders. Remember all the talk about the Tea Party followers being racists, Fascists and other assorted vile names by the “tolerant” liberals? You will see that a man of class, like Allen West, will not descend into the gutter with these “sick” individuals. He will distinguish himself in Wash. One of the primary rules of selling is that you never tear down your competitor but you should build up yourself (or your product) so that people will want what you have to sell because of what you have to offer them, benefit-wise. This is why Allen West won by almost 10 points over his entrenched incumbent opponent. All you liberal Democrats, eat your heart out!

If evidence surfaces and potential charges emerge naming Joyce Kaufman as part of an ongoing criminal investigation into a threatening call and email message on 10 November 2010, resulting in a lockdown of public, charter and Catholic schools in Broward County, we might anticipate increased scrutiny over Representative-elect West’s comments about accepting Chief-of-Staff Kaufman’s resignation.
In particular, I suspect that the following remarks by Mr. West will go under a microscope: “Joyce is a good friend, and will remain loyal to South Floridians and to me. I will always seek Joyce’s counsel for being (sic) a good Representative of this Congressional District.”

I have been watching this unfold over the last … what 36 hours. I predicted this is exactly what would happen. West knows he now has to “play the game”. Joyce is entitled to say what she wants on her show. Unfortunately, she has used radical statements to fire up the public and to push fear into South Florida. Senator Elect West must represent all of South Florida, not just the people who voted for him. On the day Joyce was celebrating her appointment, she was still demeaning those of us who chose (as is our Constitutional right) to vote for another candidate. The United States of America deserves a better Senatorial staff than Senator Elect West was recruiting.
I hope that Senator Elect West does a great job for all of us. I think that he has a better chance of being successful if he is more careful about his hiring practices.

So West’s first three actions after winning the election were: 1. Complain about Klein’s congratulatory phone call 2. Appoint a talk show host looney bird as his chief of staff 3. Change his mind (blaming others for doing so and making divisive comments about liberals, progressives, etc.) Hey Congressman-elect, did you know that as an elected public official you are supposed to act like a statesman & gentleman and represent all residents of your district? You are sure off to a lousy start. Keep this up and you’ll be voted out in 2010 by a 70-30 margin.

Whenever I tune into Kaufman’s show I can only stand it for about 10 minutes. But, today I enjoyed listening to her for a half hour.
The vindictive extremist was blaming everyone but herself for her short lived position as chief of staff for the new one term congressman. Her history of hatred folows her wherever she goes.
