Sunday’s Meek-Rubio debate scrubbed

by George Bennett | September 3rd, 2010

The Associated Press says Sunday’s NBC Meet The Press debate between Republican Senate candidate Marco Rubio and Democratic nominee Kendrick Meek has been canceled.

Rubio pulled out because his 83-year-old father’s health has “significantly deteriorated” and he plans to stay with his family, the Rubio campaign said.

The third major Senate candidate, independent Gov. Charlie Crist, had already declined to participate in the debate.

    His father is dying.

  2. JohnW Says:

Though I don’t care for him, my best to he and his family during this time.

  3. brigitte Says:

Let Meek debate by himself. Haha. Charlie did the right thing. Go Charlie!

  4. Independent voter Says:

Best wishes to the Rubio family from a Crist supporter.

  5. Blackman Says:

The Republicans M.O. this year seems to be “don’t debate” and “run away from the media when they ask questions”. How can we know how they will govern if they refuse to engage the media? That said, I wish the best for Rubio’s family.

  6. Shari Says:

We all give our prayers to Rubio at this time.

Also, he is given a pass for 2-3 weeks but let him go back and debate Meeks at least 2-3 weeks before election. Rubio will cancel as well as Christ as they know Meek would beat them in a debate. What a surprise that has come out really about dedication, desire, knowledge and support.
