In CFO race, Dem Ausley hits Atwater over teacher merit pay bill

by George Bennett | September 7th, 2010

UPDATED with Atwater campaign response. In the web video above and on the campaign trail, Democratic chief financial officer candidate Loranne Ausley is blasting her GOP rival, state Senate President Jeff Atwater of North Palm Beach, over his support for a teacher merit-pay bill that was approved by the legislature this year but vetoed by Gov. Charlie Crist.

Get used to seeing Ausley in Palm Beach County over the next two months. Although the area is Atwater’s back yard, it’s also a Democratic stronghold that Ausley believes is key to winning the statewide race.

Read the Atwater campaign’s response after the jump….

Atwater campaign spokesman Brian Hughes’ response:

Jeff Atwater has a clear record of support for education reforms that are putting more resources in the classroom to educate our kids, giving parents more choices in education, and better preparing future generations of Floridians to face the challenges of a global, 21st-Century economy.

As a result of these reforms, Florida is ranked higher in national assessments and Florida recently won the federal Race to the Top grant.

Now, Jeff Atwater is running a positive campaign for Chief Financial Officer. He is going to every Florida community to share his message of smaller government, stopping fraud and waste, and supporting the entrepreneurs who create jobs.

It is unfortunate that Loranne Ausley can only throw mud at Jeff Atwater. While he is talking to the voters of Florida, explaining his plan to champion economic recovery, Ausley is running a feeble, smear campaign.

What a GOOF. The whole democrat party supports Obama’s REPEAT OBAMA’S Race to the TOP!

It’s BOTH parties! AND it was crafted by Arne Duncan, Department of Education Secretary AND former Illinois School Superintendent of Obama’s neighborhood!

But as we all should KNOW, Obama didn’t send his children to the local school, OH NO! Obama sent his children to a CHARTER SCHOOL, cause Arne Duncan’s neighborhood schools was LOUSY.

They’re FOOLING WITH YOU, trying to disassociate from Obama’s education program.

STOP THE FEDERALIZATION OF EDUCATION. do the people in Washington KNOW what’s better for local schools than local officials. Hell, the State officials don’t even know what’s happening in South Florida compared to Central or North Florida.

The farther one is away the worse is the structure of government.

DISBAND the department of Education established under Jimmy Carter. That would eliminate 5000 FEDERAL jobs and make available $5 billion in salaries, healthcare (cuz they’re NOT on ObamaCare they have FEDERAL Healthcare) and those fabulous pensions.

NO to DEMONcRATS They’ll distance themselves from Obama in 2010 but will be back licking his boots once elected.

Loranne “I didnt accomplish 1 thing in my 8 years in the House” Ausley is a joke.

Ausley aligns with Obama on all the issues that voters hate. She likes the health care bill. She loves the stimulus. She walks lock step with the unions.

Unions are killing education and our economy. I am voting against every person the unions endorse.
