GOP state House challenger Key: I’m taller, louder than Dem Rep. Bernard
by George Bennett | September 22nd, 2010
- Bernard: 5’9″
- Key: 6’0″
And Republican Albert Key said he’s got a size and decibel advantage over the incumbent as well.
Low-budget candidate Key will need every edge he can get in a district that’s 65 percent Democratic and 15 percent Republican.
Key, speaking at a Republican Club of the Palm Beaches lunch, offered this account of his appearance with Bernard at a candidates forum in the Glades Tuesday night:
“Where we went last night, he represented himself as the incumbent, everybody looked up like ‘Oh, you’re the incumbent? You’re the guy who represents us?’ They didn’t know who he was.
“When I spoke up there, big difference. The guy’s shorter than me, he’s smaller than me, his voice is lower than mine so you can’t hear him very well. When I spoke, everybody woke up. When he spoke, everybody looked up. That’s the difference. Do you want somebody you can just kind of take a look at — OK, we know who he is — who isn’t going to communicate with you, isn’t going to share their information, or do you want somebody who does?”
For the record, the soft-spoken Bernard is 5’9″ while Key is 6 feet tall.

Representative Mack Bernard: soft-spoken, well educated business owner, family man, and one of the few good guys in Tallahassee. Mack Bernard actually knows the issues concerning his district and, in just one short year, is pretty well-known by his constituents.
Challenger: loud, rude, clueless, still lives with his mama, and knows nothing about the district. I sat in the audience…dude, you suck. You probably think that your height, weight, loud voice, and your skin color make you better than the next guy huh? You’re a loser.
Mack, I’m a proud constituent and your office has been very helpful. Please sir, beat this jerk.
