Kimberly Mitchell joins Republicans for Sink

by Michael C. Bender | August 31st, 2010

With Rick Scott in the midst of his Republican unity tour, West Palm Beach City Commissioner Kimberly Mitchell, Fort Pierce Mayor Bob Benton and Okeechobee Sheriff Paul May were among 10 GOP local officials pledging their allegiance to Democrat Alex Sink’s gubernatorial campaign.

“Alex Sink has the experience and problem-solving approach that we need in our next Governor,” Mitchell said in a statement. “Sink understands the needs of Florida’s business owners and will make sure the Florida’s small businesses have the right support to thrive and grow.”

(We noted Mitchell’s interest in Sink last year.)

Here’s the press release from Sink’s campaign:

Republican elected officials are endorsing Alex Sink for Governor as the best candidate to lead Florida. Republicans, Democrats and Independents are responding to Alex Sink’s proven business experience and her detailed plans to create jobs and build a stronger economy.

Republican elected officials endorsing Alex Sink’s gubernatorial campaign include: West Palm Beach City Commission President Kimberly Mitchell, Orlando City Councilman Tony Ortiz, Okeechobee County Sheriff Paul May, Bradenton Mayor Wayne Poston, Aventura City Commissioner Luz Weinberg, Ft. Pierce Mayor Bob Benton, Palmetto Commissioner Brian Williams, Belleair Commissioner Tom Shelly, Atlantic Beach Mayor Mike Borno, and Ocala City Council Member Mary Rich.

“I am proud to have the support of so many Floridians, regardless of their party affiliation, who are ready for a stronger economy and a new day in our state,” said Alex Sink. “Voters of all parties are fed up with the partisanship, special interests, and politics as usual in Tallahassee and know that I will hold government accountable and get results for Florida.”

“Alex Sink has the experience and problem-solving approach that we need in our next Governor,” said West Palm Beach City Commission President Kimberly Mitchell. “Sink understands the needs of Florida’s business owners and will make sure the Florida’s small businesses have the right support to thrive and grow.”

“I am proud to stand behind Alex Sink and know she will lead Florida in the right direction,” said Orlando City Councilman Tony Ortiz. “I am especially impressed with Alex’s work to protect Floridians — especially our seniors — from fraud, and I know she will work hard to keep our communities and state safe.”

“Alex Sink is the right kind of common-sense leader that Florida needs right now and a strong supporter of law enforcement,” said Okeechobee County Sheriff Paul May. “Alex will make sure that our state is moving forward, people are getting back to work, and she’ll put an end to the partisan bickering in Tallahassee.”

“Alex Sink has shown that she will work with local elected officials and see us as partners as we work to grow our economy and remake our state,” said Bradenton Mayor Wayne Poston. “Alex understands what it’s going to take to get our state back on track and I’m proud to support her.”

“With such a solid business background and passion for education, I strongly feel that Alex Sink will build a stronger Florida, focusing on our economy and our kids’ education,” said Aventura Commissioner Luz Weinberg. “Alex knows how to use Florida’s diversity to strengthen our economy, and she brings real life experience and skills to the Governor’s Office.”

What a joke! Mitchell IS a democrat! Is that supposed to sway voters to support Adelade?

Alex ‘Pelosi’ Sink left her executive job with Bank of America…with a $8,000,000 payday!

Alex’s hubby, Bill McBride, also sought a power grab and ran for governor, TOO!

They’re potentially FLorida’s Bill and Hillary. We don’t need a dynasty in Florida.

But she couldn’t manage as treasurer of the State Pension funds!

No! to Alex another Pelosi Sink.

    SINK, Sink!

  2. Who Cares? Says:

Alex Sink = Democrats = Obama

NO THANKS! They’ll be NO JOBS, MORE SPENDING and TAXING with Sink.

Our astronaut Democrat Senator Bill Nelson did NOTHING, NOTHING to keep NASA in Florida. The State lost 26,000 jobs…thanks Bill, for NOTHING!

NO to SINK and NO to Nelson! And NO to Mitchell!

    Scott=FRAUD

  4. Termack Says:

This is just the tip of the Tidal wave from the republicants to Alex Sink.

  5. Arbar Says:

Yes Virginia, there are some rational, reasonable Republicans left. Not many, but they do exist.

  6. good for her Says:

Mitchell most certainly is a Republican. Thing is, she’s got a head on her sholders and actually uses it for more than a hat rack. She is an avid supporter of Marco Rubio’s and now a supporter of Alex Sink. Hmmm, maybe just maybe we should think more like this and pick the right person for the JOB. Forget party labels because it just gets us into trouble and brings us people like Scott and Crist. No thank you.

  7. Truthman Says:

Rick Scott has two first names and looks like the clown that he is.

  8. lol donkey Says:

Hey Who Cares, wouldn’t the private sector do a better job than the inefficient govt agency known as NASA? You can’t have it both ways. But then again teabaggers aren’t known for rational thought.

  9. ct Says:

As a registered Republican, I too am struggling with who to support in this election. Like Mitchell, I think Rubio is an easy one to support. I just can’t see supporting someone with Rick Scott’s background, so I can easily understand Mitchell’s decision to support Sink. What’s remarkable is that there actually is an elected official who is brave enough to recommend to the voters someone they support for the “right reasons.” Look at all of the Republicans who were out there bashing Scott for the last several months, but who now are suggesting we support him. Sorry, I think I’m following the Kimberly Mitchell route. Add another to the list of Republicans for Sink.

  10. RobWPB Says:

First: Hey lol donkey: NASA isnt going private, their just heading out of our state, which means the money it generates is going with it as well as the jobs. Second: Long Term (rep) politians are the only ones that dont want Rick Scott. Think about why they wouldnt? It is necessary to get these career pol’s out of office.

  11. Leroy Says:

Alex Sink has done very little just follow her record. But just last week Obama was here to promote her. As he stated. Is it legal to use taxpayers money to campaign this way? Is she in step with him and his politics? She has positioned herself with others who have done some things here in Florida but her record speaks for its self. Some things to think about.

  12. Smart Says:

Wow, a lot of hate from the extreme right wing. Kim Mitchell is most certainly a Republican, and a voice for fiscal conservatism on the WPB commission.
Instead of blaming her endorsement of Sink on her, maybe someone should blame my fellow Republicans for allowing a crook and criminal to become our nominee for Governor. I understand we’re angry at the establishment, but that is no reason to turn our state over to a crook. We used to be the party of moral certainty. Now we just look like we’ll take anyone, as long as they spend enough money of commercials.
Rick Scott defrauded us all of billions of dollars. Wake up!

  13. Patriot Says:

Good for Mitchell! She stuck to her values over a party. Why is that a big deal?

  14. Not Smart Says:

“Kim Mitchell is most certainly a Republican, and a voice for fiscal conservatism on the WPB commission.”

More accurately, she’s that “not a reliable” republican nor is she a “consistent” voice for fiscal conservatism. This was a bad judgement on her part that probably will come back to haunt her, especially when taxes go up under Sink administration.

  15. Kate Says:

What it means is that Kimberly Mitchell’s time has come. She needs to go the way of Lois Frankel…out the door. She came begging for Republican support to help defeat Frankel’s attempt to run for a third term and is now forgetting which side she represents. It’s not a good time for incumbents. This is an example of a politician who has been in office way too long.

  16. madmama Says:

As a mother of two children in public school, all I can say to those who would vote for anyone who would be AGAINST the Arizona law (which is actually the same as our federal law)…come to my kids’ schools and you will see an INVASION!!!! Check it out at 7:30 am….at least 100 children of (probable) illegals ALL eating free breakfast. Then a few hours later, free lunch. When my oldest son asked one of his hispanic schoolmates if he paid for his lunch, the kid just laughed in my son’s face and called him a stupid gringo! THEY KNOW THEY ARE WORKING THE SYSTEM!!! All the while, my son gets hassled by the lunch lady if he is $2. behind on his lunch money dues! They will take his warm lunch away, throw it in the trash and give him a cold cheese sandwich!!! If that isn’t enough to p**s you off, then I don’t know what is! I’ll vote for anyone who will address this MAJOR problem in Florida!!!
