Jeff Greene: Obama ‘all wrong’ on Ground Zero mosque

by George Bennett | August 14th, 2010

UPDATE: Kendrick Meek’s statement: “Our nation was founded on the pillar of religious freedom and construction of the mosque should not be denied on religious grounds, but this is ultimately a decision for the local community in New York City to make.”

Democratic Senate candidate Jeff Greene today said President Obama is wrong to support construction of a mosque near the spot where Islamic jihadists killed more than 2,000 people by crashing planes into the World Trade Center.

Greene’s statement:

President Obama has this all wrong and I strongly oppose his support for building a mosque near Ground Zero especially since Islamic terrorists have bragged and celebrated destroying the Twin Towers and killing nearly 3,000 Americans.

“Freedom of religion might provide the right to build the mosque in the shadow of Ground Zero, but common sense and respect for those who lost their lives and loved ones gives sensible reason to build the mosque someplace else.

“President Obama had the chance to show leadership by calling on the mosque’s supporters to find a more appropriate location.”

Enough already. It’s just another religious building not any different that a Baptist church or a Catholic church. Can’t we just learn to accept each other’s differences and perhaps there would not be so much hate in this world.

Greene is pandering to the hate and prejudice in people to win votes.

    Amen,Allie.

  3. Shut Up Already Says:

As a second generation holocaust survivor, the biggest lesson my parents taught me was HATRED is what caused the holocaust in the first place, and hatred is not acceptable against ANY group EVER. Including Muslims. So if you count yourself as anti-Muslim, anti-Jew, anti Black, anti-gay, go crawl back under the rock where you came from and stay there.

  4. jeffylou Says:

Jeff Greene is doing exactly that: Pandering to the majority.
As a politician he should have a greater understanding of and respect for our First Amendment. Freedom of Religion. No amount of righteousness indignation or hurt feelings gives any American the right to dictate where, when and how a differing/opposing religion can worship. Feelings aren’t the issue here – freedom is! Unfortunately so is ignorance. People, READ and LEARN about Park 51 (the “mosque”). It is hardly the terrifying demon it is being touted as (by Palin, Gingrich and now the suck up known as Jeff Greene). Knowledge is Power. Learn, people, before you respond with such hatred and anger!

  5. whasup Says:

Of course they should allow the mosque there, under the condition that, when they issue their prayer calls five times each day, they add into that traditional Arabic call, an apology for the Islamists who committed the evil act on September 11, 2001, which Allah condemns and the Prophet would abhor and the Qur’an says is un-Islamic.

Yep, broadcast that apology and condemnatinon 5 times each day forever, with the regular prayer call, and I say let them have their mosque.

  6. Big Dem Says:

Good for you, Mr. Greene! At last, a Democrat who is not an idiot! Or who we are!

  7. Big Dem Says:

Good for you, Mr. Greene! At last, a Democrat who is not an idiot! Or who thinks that we are!

  8. Blob Says:

I’ve got no problem with a mosque as long as we have a pork BBQ restaurant and a gay bar next to it.

  9. Hmmm Says:

Mr. Greene is expressing a grossly anti-American viewpoint which would appear to indicate that if he were to get into office, he would happily violate American freedoms and rights at the whim of a hate-filled, ignorant, small-minded minority of the populace. Scary thought. America is the LAND OF THE FREE!!! And we will vote to keep it that way Mr. Greene, so we definitely won’t be voting for you.

  10. Hmmm Says:

First he and his ilk ban the mosques, then the temples, then the churches, then the gay bars, then all bars, then the bbq joints, and then the McDonald’s. Then they ban thoughts, ideas, opinions, and finally freedom itself.

  11. Phyllis Says:

    Allie is right.

Big Dem is not a Dem at all…he is a Republicon pretending to be a Dem. What a loser.

  12. Confused! Says:

Idiots! What everybody seems to miss or be ignorant of is tht it’s not just the building or the people who might quietly go there to do their thing. It’s what will happen around the building! If you go into the neighborhoods that are predominantly islamic, you will notice YOU ARE NOT WELCOME THERE!!!! Especially WOMEN! ESPECIALLY AMERICAN WOMEN! Short skirts or sexy clothes! NEVER! They actually block entire neighborhoods off from people and even police. You can search this on the web in NY! Wake up people! Open your eyes! It’s already happening! Anti-American!?!?!?! No! I am PRO-AMERICAN! I welcome everyone. Just behave, obey OUR LAWS, and leave us our FREEDOM!!!!!!

  13. comb over Says:

The Prez said the Constitution allows the mosque to be built. I don’t like it myself, but the Constitution does.
Same with burning the flag. I hate it and could see myself going ballastic if someone did it next to me, but they have the right. The president was just saying what I just tried to say.

  14. Jonas Barillas Says:

I just wish those opposing the mosque would be as forceful in their support of freedom of religion as they are in their endorsement of freedom to bear arms.
