Poll: Scott 37, McCollum 33

by Michael C. Bender | July 27th, 2010

UPDATE: Here’s the official memo on the poll.

Those will be the official numbers released in the coming days from a poll commissioned by the Florida Medical Association, Bill McCollum supporter Mac Stipanovich tells us.

The poll of 600 likely Republican voters was taken July 25-26 by McLaughlin & Associates and has a 4 point margin of error. The pollsters are also working for McCollum and the numbers are almost identical to this survey for the campaign that Politico reported on today.

Most voters have a negative opinions of Scott and McCollum, but the poll will show McCollum has a better chance to win the 30 percent still undecided.

“The story here is not that McCollum isn’t winning. It’s that Scott has not got the separation he was hoping for after outspending McCollum four-to-one,” Stipanovich said. “When you live on momentum and expectations, you have to keep them going. When you disappoint, you deflate quickly sometimes.”

  1. O Really Says:

If this is the indicative snapshot, then it’s better to go with the devil you know and that would be McCollum.

  2. BB Says:

It should probably be noted that McLaughlin and Associates is also Bill McCollum’s pollster…

So take this with a salt block, not just a grain.

  3. ELC Says:

I just don’t understand McCollum at all.
He has no emotion even on the one commcercial I saw him in…is he even alive?I was going to vote for Rick Scott, but honestly he is a real turn off. I’m tired of watching him buy this
election and I haven’t heard anything
substantial out of his mouth. Money can
buy a lot of things but not necessarily
this seat. If you want my vote Rick-try
convincing me how you are going to bring
jobs here, how you are going to deal with immigration and the BP oil spill.
Your money can not answer for you. As for Bill-you have been in politics long
enough-so where are you? You would think
that you would want to share your achievements(unless you don’t have any)
with the public. If for thirty yrs in
office you have no positives-I recommend
cutting out now. This is sad when the public is left with absolutely no choice.Don’t start me on the Dems-they
have a worse group than the Republicans.
Floridians as usual are left with no
    descent choice.

  4. BB Says:

    1) The FMA unanimously endorsed Bill McCollum.

    2) It’s VERY odd that McLaughlin did a poll just 3 days earlier, too. Obviously if the FMA wanted to know where Bill McCollum stood with Florida voters, they could have relied on the 3-day old survey data and saved a small fortune.

Perhaps they REALLY wanted an independent sample? But if that were true, they would not have used McLaughlin in the first place.

CONCLUSION: This poll was NOT a genuine attempt to get an unbiased read on the matchup between McCollum and Rick Scott.

Obviously, this is a ham-handed attempt by Team McCollum to manufacture momentum where none exists.

  5. Mac Learned that trick from Jim Greer Says:

Remember the poll that Jim Greer and the RPOF did for Charlie Crist. The one that showed Crist way ahead of Rubio! Remember all that Greer provided Crist was some good numbers in his favor along with a bill for same! Then Greer admitted it was all fake! They made up the numbers and give ole CharlIE a bill for it! Polly Ticks makes strange bedfellers!

  7. Mike Says:

    What about Meek and Greene?

    PB Post ALWAYS Endorses democrats.

What’s the percentage of democrats endorsed by the PB Post compared to other parties.

    PB Post=democrat party
