Crist: Legislature has let the people down
by Michael C. Bender | July 20th, 2010Gov. Charlie Crist said he won’t call lawmakers back a second time, after the House and Senate adjourned without voting on a constitutional amendment to ban offshore drilling in state waters.
“I am significantly disappointed for the people of Florida,” Crist said after “I can’t believe this legislature has shirked its duty so badly.”
“How arrogant can a legislature be?” Crist said. “I call this legislature the do-nothing legislature. And I’m going to give them hell for it.”
Crist included Senate President Jeff Atwater as a target, saying Atwater never asked Crist to expand the issues for session, despite an implication from Atwater that he did.
“Nobody asked me to, for the record, in spite of what you heard on the Senate floor,” Crist said. “I don’t know where that came from.”

Charlie, you’re the one that is arrogant. You’re arrogant for telling the people that you were a “diehard Republican” but then changed your party affiliation when it was obvious you would lose in a primary against Rubio. You’re arrogant for waiting nearly 50 days to demand more skimmers from BP to protect Florida’s coastline. You’re arrogant for misleading the public by suggesting that drilling off of Florida’s shoreline is legal. When are you going to be honest with the people and stop with your politics of destruction? The State Legislature did not shirk its duty it just didn’t want to play along with your little charade. I just hope that you’re not going to take your angry out against your good buddy Dean Cannon. It amazes me how we once embraced you as the leader of the Republican Party in this state.
I can’t wait to see the “hell” you’re about to unleash on the Legislature. Bring it on Charlie!
