Police union poll tests Brandenburg for West Palm Beach mayor; she says she’s not running

Brandenburg: 'I'm running for the county commission'

A telephone poll conducted by the Police Benevolent Association this week asks respondents about declared 2011 West Palm Beach mayoral candidates Jeri Muoio and Molly Douglas and undeclared-but-considering-it candidate Kimberly Mitchell.

There’s also a favorable/unfavorable question about former U.S. Rep. Mark Foley, who’s name has been floated as a potential mayoral candidate.

But the survey questions that have tongues wagging concern term-limited state Rep. Mary Brandenburg, a former city commissioner who’s running for Palm Beach County commission this year and says she’s not interested in a mayoral campaign.

The PBA is particularly interested in the next mayor’s race after term-limited incumbent Mayor Lois Frankel and the city commission — including Muoio, Douglas and Mitchell — voted to deny pay raises to police and firefighters.

At today’s Forum Club of the Palm Beaches lunch, Brandenburg said was approached by PBA Executive Director Ernie George in Tallahassee a few weeks ago about running for mayor, but told him she’s not interested.

“Apparently the PBA has talked to everybody about that,” Brandenburg said. “I’m running for the county commission. I’m not running for anything else.”

  1. Ingrates Says:

the police continually try to manipulate the political arena.

Police are downright evil asking for a raise while people are being put out of their homes and have no jobs to go to.

Be glad you have a job!

  2. Really? Says:

Well, this is really a reach. Didn’t she lose her first race for re-election to City Commission as an incumbent 8 years ago?

I’m flabbergasted. You go to Tallahassee for 8 years, do absolutely nothing, and then come back and try to run again? I live in her district and I can’t think of anything she has done or accomplished in her four terms. Nothing.

Come on, PBA, next up, Pete Brandenburg! About the only thing that could be worse than his wife!

  3. YES!! Says:

SWEET! That would make for a great election season.

Did the union see the Grand Jury report?

I’m shocked this crook has the gumption to run for County Commission, but it would be awesome if she would run for Mayor. The media could have a field day!

Both her and her husband are useless, vote in Steve Rosenblum, he is the kind of change we need representing us in Tallahassee! no more career politicians!

she wants to follow in susan buscher’s corrupt crooked ways!
