The Governor needs to actually consider the qualifications of someone that he wants to appoint for an office. I am sorry but there is absolutely nothing wrong with the Senate refusing to confirm this appointment. Neither of these two people were qualified to evaluate PSC decisions. There are plenty of people qualified - just not these two lackeys.

I was disgusted to observe the political gamesmanship involved in the Florida Senate's rejection of Gov Crist's nominees to the PSC simply because the nominees recently voted against FPL's request for a $1.3 billion rate hike. The Senators that voted against the nomination of these two fine public servants, Steve Stevens, CPA, and David Klement, a newspaper editor, claim that the nominees were not qualified but when one looks at the money that these Senators have received from FPL and the utility lobby, it is clear that money "talks" and nominees that reject utility rate hikes "walk"! FPL's PAC is the LARGEST contributor to Florida's politicians. Over $1 million was provided in 2009 alone.
The utility companies should not be able to hand pick the Public Service Commission by making large monetary contributions to the politicians that determine the make up of the commission that regulates them. Any system that allows the fox to guard the hen house is a recipe for abuse.

The curse of American politics. Lobbyist, political donations, buying power in a "for sale democracy." What happened to "for the people , by the people"? And we try to force American democracy on foreign countries, we see corruption in them, as with our own system. Politicians, sound bites, and money determine outcomes. Charlie Crists listening to the people of Florida bucks the republican agenda. I will vote for Charlie however he runs. The Bush boys and cronies were deprived of profits from there text book companies and educational software companies, by trying to short money to the Florida educatonal system. The buck stopped with Charlie Crist vetoe, thankyou Charlie. tr

Finally government standing up against stupidity. How can a bar owner and a news writer judge anything as complicated as the PSC. Qualifications levels should be set for all PSC members. I would not let a bar owner operate on me because our crazy governor thought they would be a good doctor.

I challenge every Senator that voted against both of these nominees to tell the citizens of Florida how much they have received in political donations from the utility companies and their lobbyist. What a bunch of corrupt thieves!

This is how we are represented by the politicos in the Florida Legislature!!! It was supposed to be part of the "good old boys" back-scratching where the Gov. signed off on SB6 and the politicos would approve the Gov.'s appointments. Instead, the Senators sucked their thumb and scratched the appointees, and I'm sure that FPL will provide them with "suitable" applicants and lots of other "goodies"!!!!!!!!
