Republican Allen West’s poll shows him edging U.S. Rep. Ron Klein, 44-42

by George Bennett | April 26th, 2010

Republican congressional challenger Allen West’s campaign released a poll this morning that shows West with a 44-to-42 percent lead over U.S. Rep. Ron Klein, D-Boca Raton.

The poll of 400 “likely general election voters” was taken April 18-19 by Republican polling firm Wilson Research Strategies and has a 4.9 percent margin of error. That makes the race a statistical dead heat — which is not good news for an well-financed, well-known incumbent.

The poll found West is known by 49 percent of District 22 voters and, among those who know him, is viewed favorably by 23 percent and unfavorably by 8 percent. Klein is known by 93 percent of voters and has a favorable/unfavorable score of 43/31, according to the poll.

GO WEST! Anyone who has educated themselves on our choices for congressional representation will conclude that Allen West is a concerned, educated and sensible candidate who will serve this district well.

  2. William Bailey Says:

Go West! Get rid of all these incumbents who fail to listen to the people, and only do what inhances thier agendas. It’s time to take the goverment back to the people!!!

  3. EdFulop Says:

    Restore Honor. Flip the House.

  4. voter Says:

He doesn’t show the question. Anyone can get a poll to say anything. If is very possible that this is a push poll. If West is truly leading he should release the actual wording of the poll.

  5. John in Delray Says:

    Go West!
Getting Klein — who I voted for — out of office will stop another “career politician” as well as help to “clean the House.”

  6. Mimi Says:

Gotta go with local boy Klein. He knows the issues. As a rep I dont agree with all of his views but he does take care of his constituants.

  7. ozmo Says:

Anyone want to bet that West will win. I will give you 10 to 1 odds. Name your amount?

  8. ted Says:

Get out the BIG BROOMS and sweep out all the career politicians! They owe too many favors to their big donators! Start anew.

  9. cool Says:

So, only 50% knew West, and 70% of those people had no idea if they liked West or not. Given Allen West’s rhetoric, I think it would be tough to really know him, and not have an opinion. You either love him or hate him, there is no in between or neutral, unless you just have no idea. So what does it mean to “know” West??

Klein is vulnerable. Tell me something I did not know.

  10. Cindy Graves Says:

Col. West is a dream candidate and rightly so. God Bless you Col. for your service to our country and your determination to make a difference in Washington DC.

  11. henry Says:

west gives straight answers…we need “real” people….vote out the incumbents who have had their chance and have not done
a good job…..give west the job….don’t be afraid to ‘fire’ klein….we need strong leaders, unafraid to talk tough and then actualy get things ‘un-done’….west is the man to vote for…i only visit florida from illinois…(a corruption breeding ground) i would vote for west if he was running in illinois.

  12. Adam Says:

Will vote for West. A black man never gets a chance against a jew.

Again it is a poll where they don’t release the questions. It is most likely a push poll. If it is legitimate, then West should release the questions.

  16. EdFulop Says:

It’s funny how guys like you are so quick to say polls don’t mean squat when they turn against your side. When they prove your point, you shout them from the rooftops, and call them a mandate from the people.

Hear that sound? That’s the worm turning my friend. Only 190 days until November 2nd.

Can any liberal progressive make a point in any issue without calling the other side a name? It’s hysterical. “Blithering tea-baggers”,
“self-hating racists”, and “Republican” as if it means the same as “baby-eater!” or “puppy killer”. I dare you to make a point without the ridicule.

I made several points but Ed ‘the unethical’ Fulop calls me names. Ed your party is mired in unethical positions that you cannot argue our way out of. You are the party of HATE, FEAR, and LACK of ETHICS.
I will crush you and any of your comrades political drivel with FACTS and LOGIC. THE BUCK STOPS HERE.

  20. EdFulop Says:

    Seth –

What makes you think that coming from a inter-racial bi-lingual family makes you immune from being a racist? That’s like saying a police officer is immune from committing a crime. Never been a dirty cop either, eh Mr. FACTS and LOGIC? While we’re on the topic of facts – I’m not a Republican just because I support one for a given race.
    NPA, mon frer.

You can call my ethics into question all you want; what you know about me is what I choose to tell you, or what you read from my blogs. You are neither judge nor saint for me to prove myself for, so your words about me might as well be the bleating of a sheep. In a lot of ways, that’s exactly what it is. Any other time, I would only respond if my words would improve the silence, or teach you a lesson.

However, you attacked a man I have met on numerous occasions, and consider a friend. When you attack what’s mine, I cannot abide. Me calling you a racist was but a taste of the 14-line stanza you composed above with each line beginning “ALLEN WEST = insert nasty hate speech here.” Very creative, and nothing but name calling on your part. How do you reconcile that with your FACTS and LOGIC?

You called Colonel West 15 names, I called you one, and you whine about being called a name!? Ha! Your worse then a sheep.

  21. Seth Platt Says:

I am merely pointing out some of the more distasteful positions that your “Friend” Allen West ascribes to.
If you don’t like it tough.
I don’t care what race creed or color someone is, only their motives and objectives. I advocate for average citizens, your candidate represents the RICH and Corporate interests, oh and racists like members South Florida 9-12. None of us are naive enough to believe that WEST is not fanning the flames of racial discord under the guise of his own skin color and uniform in our district. And I am happy to call him and you out on it.
I have stood against racism my whole life, and no fat white red headed slob (YOU)is ever gonna rewrite my story.
You have picked a fight with the wrong kid.
I sprinkle conservative principles like yours on bowls of glass for breakfast just to make it taste even more bitter.

  22. Seth Platt Says:

OMG I’m sorry I forgot to mention the most important tenant of the Conservative movement: GREED

  24. EdFulop Says:

Seth writes “I have stood against racism my whole life, and no fat white red headed slob (YOU)is ever gonna rewrite my story.”

I knew if I baited you long enough you’d show your true colors. You say that you’ve stood against racism your whole life, and you can’t even get out of the same sentence before you disparage me for being fat, red-headed, and WHITE.

Guess you’ve been cruising the picture archive on the 9.12 site — thanks for using your real name, too. You’ve just become suspect #1 if something happens to me at a future event. Being a racist cuts both ways, bro. See you around campus.

  27. Chaz Stevens, Genius Says:

America has become a lunatic asylum. When the Republicans passed the tax cut for the wealthy that helped precipitate the nation’s deep slide into insolvency, where were the tea party protesters? When George W. Bush and his henchmen lied us into a war that sent thousands of sons and daughters to leave their blood and limbs and sanity in the sands of Babylon, where were the tea party protesters?

When the scandal of Abu Ghraib broke and the American people learned that our President, Vice President, and Attorney General abrogated the Geneva Conventions and allowed America to torture its captives, where were the Tea Party protesters?

During the six years the Congress was controlled by the Republicans they did everything they could to enhance the lot of the rich while at the same time severely damaging the middle class. Their “fair trade” policies cost America two million jobs. Where were the tea party protesters?

Maybe our madness is a symptom of our need to escape reality. Even so, the reality is there and persists and becomes even more maddening.

  28. Ed Fulop Says:

Really? Yeah — with a name like Seth, are you seriously thinking I thought you were black or middle eastern or something. Please . . . give me some credit. When your handle above has a line under it, it means you can click it and go to the blogger’s twitter or facebook account, and from there, you happen to have your profile on google highlighted, so I saw lots of pictures of you way back at post #13 above. All head shots, black and white, sepia tone, full color with blonde highlights and all. Barbizon portfolio? Handsome guy you are — like a stunt double for Sam Champion. Mom’s proud I bet. You are, too — that’s evident.

Colonel West served this country for 20+ years in the Army, protecting your right to blather on this blog about damned near anything you want. That’s one of the things that makes this country great — venues like this are provided for folks like you and me to redress greivances with our public officials, or each other. The next time you get the opportunity, you’d do well to shake his hand, and thank him for his service to you and your family,
instead of spreading a lot of hateful nonsense about class warfare and sedition. Get right with yourself before you go on the attack.

  29. Chaz Stevens, Genius Says:

  30. Seth Platt Says:

Ed you are a fool if you think I need social media lessons from an old fart like you. I hope your wife didn’t see you oooogling my photos. I don’t need to explain my rich multicultural upbringing or perspective that gives me the ability check you and West. If you think West’s race insulates the Tea Party or Wingnuts from criticism of your racist rhetoric you are wrong. I am not intimidated or bullied by THUGS Like you and West. I make it my public duty to stand up to bullies like WEST.

  31. Ed Fulop Says:

You’ve “checked” nothing. You’ve pontificated, called Colonel West and me a bunch of names, and beat your chest like a grade school bully ; “eating glass for breakfast”, “I will crush you” and “say it to my face”. Who’s the thug here? Make your case — give me some of those FACTS and LOGIC you were threatening me with above.

Oh, and “oooogling” your photos? Yeah — you really do like yourself quite a bit.

  32. Seth Platt Says:

West openly called for a public intimidation campaign, I will not be intimidated by you miscreants.
    More to come…

  33. Ed Fulop Says:

    . . . and Obama didn’t?

You guys hear what you want to hear, and cast aspersions to throw people off the scent. If Klein was so convinced that his positions were the will of his constituents, why won’t he face them in public to explain his vote? Someone with the courage of their convictions wouldn’t have an issue with that. Instead, you go right to the name calling — in your last post alone, you called me a fool, an old fart, a wing nut, a racist, a thug, a bully, and you questioned my sexuality. Again, I beseech you, where’s the FACTS and LOGIC you purported?

Incidentally, calling me an old fart is hilarious — you and I are the same age.

As a former Soviet citizen who was fighting with KGB for his emigration rights for 10 years, I kindly ask you to watch this video:

The ones, who former KGB Colonel Bezmenov calls “Useful idiots”, are not gonna change – their genetical make up is screwed for three generations. The least: they might understand where the liberal itching in their bottoms every morning comes from. The rest of us will simply save this country and, unfortunately, our opponents in the process as well from being “squashed like cockroaches” – watch the video, you’ll understand.

That is what he did regarding healthcare. He didn’t show up to face the people.

This is what will continue when you have a coward who WON’T attend meetings that his constituents showed up to.

Downright a fraidy cat. Not a man. We need a MAN in the position, not a little boy who never served his country.

    NO to KLEIN!

  40. Chaz Stevens, Genius Says:

Ishmael of course became the beginning of the Arab people….and God’s word is immutable truth.

  45. Seth Platt Says:

West fired his pistol near the head of the prisoner, threatened to kill him, and allowed his troops to beat the man.

No plans for attacks on Americans or weapons were found. Colonel West testified that he did not know whether “any corroboration” of a plot was ever found, adding: “At the time I had to base my decision on the intelligence I received. It’s possible that I was wrong about Mr. Hamoodi.”

West was found guilty of three counts of aggravated assault and a single count of communicating a threat. The ruling was issued after West pleaded guilty to misconduct.

Army to instead relieve West of his command, fine him $5,000, and order him back to the United States, where he will be allowed to retire.

  48. Seth Platt Says:

When disciplinary proceedings were commenced against West, senior congressional Republicans, including Senator John Warner and Congressman Duncan Hunter — who as chairs, respectively, of the Senate and House Armed Services Committees, had their hands on the Pentagon’s pursestrings — intervened aggressively to protect him. The result: instead of facing punishment that could have included prison time, West got off with a fine, a reprimand and early departure from the service.

The Army filed criminal charges against him, an article 32 hearing was conducted at which West admitted wrongdoing, and ultimately he was fined $5,000 for misconduct and assault and then allowed to resign from the military. The Army concluded that his actions were criminal and that “his crimes merit a court-martial.” Had West been prosecuted and convicted, he could have faced as much as 11 years in prison, a dishonorable discharge and forfeiture of pension and benefits.

And seeing that you get your information from the Huffington Post – I’ll give you the benefit of the doubt of being undereducated as well!
I love how you leave out the most fascinating part of the story – as well as you didn’t recognize within your copy and paste – “Had West been prosecuted [...]” – in my career in law enforcement – “If” becomes a very vague word. “If” the Army had a case against West – trust me they would have prosecuted him – take a look at the three Navy SEALs – who, as it looks – compares very well to this case – each were found NOT GUILTY. The “Victim” was an Iraqi Policeman – a Sadaam loyalist who was being interrogated – which may have saved American lives. Put the gist of the story in there Seth – not the parts that are inflammatory as to demonize West. This is why your leftist cable news are in the crapper!

MidEastVet – Salute from the former solder (Soviet Army) to the former Solder! However… we know that SOLDERS can never become FORMER. One can change his allegeance from the wrong one to the right one, but fighting spirit does not change. Allen West – is one of the best cases in point. Liberals don’t get it: they are not solders by definition. As Colonel Bezmenov said Their genes were modified for the last 90 years – see my earlier comment. I only feel sorry that they will be saved from Obama’s GULAG by piggy-backing on our effort and success.

  56. Chaz Stevens, Genius Says:

As always, you wonder where this patriotism and righteousness and Tea Party activism was during Bush-Cheney. You wonder if all the people who want to take to the streets – and to the television cameras now – decided they weren’t needed for eight years because they thought the country was going so good. Or maybe they have just convinced themselves that the Obama who must now be stopped didn’t just inherit this America, he created it.

This is no longer about political dissent. It is about storm trooper sound bites, and hate. This isn’t the kind of honest debate on which our system of government has been built. It is vile, back-alley fighting, getting worse by the day, with no end in sight. People say that opposition to all Presidents, even the most unpopular white ones, sounds like this. No, it doesn’t.

Palin is such a fighter and great American that she quit on her stool as governor of Alaska because there was more money to be made in the other 49 states, shouting about death panels and health care and “European socialism” and writing unreadable books. In so many ways, she is a perfect media darling for our times. She doesn’t scrawl graffiti, she thinks in it.

Will a bill be presented to my children and their children on this bill someday? It likely will be. And economists say that Iraq will eventually be a $3 trillion war for this country. But all those who have taken to the streets because of the bill that Obama signed the other day must think that Iraq has paid for itself, no matter how much money it continues to cost this country, how many dead or broken bodies.

    Chaz Stevens, Genius

  57. Ed Fulop Says:

    “Genius” Chaz -

If you were truly worthy of your handle, you wouldn’t be asking the question about where the Tea Party was during Bush/Cheney. Let’s imagine that America is a stationwagon on a cross-country road trip, that from 2000 to 2008 was being driven by the Bush/Cheney regime, with us as the passengers in the back seat, playing “punchbug” or “Go Fish”. If we aren’t watching the road, and the driver is maintaining the speed limit, it’s going to be a long time before anyone notices that the stationwagon is headed in the wrong direction. In the last half of 2008, things started to go wrong on our trip; tires were going flat, the engine was over-heating, and we ran a few lights. The passengers stopped playing their games and started paying attention, and realized that something wasn’t right. When an opportunity arose to switch to a new driver in November of 2008, the passengers perceived that as the fix to the problem, and that would fix the stationwagon, and put the road-trip back on course. In January of 2009, our new driver took the wheel, pulled a hard U-turn, and mashed the pedal to the floor. Any of you that have been in a car on the highway going well over the speed limit, know that it becomes hard to pay attention to anything else than the speed, the route, the traffic, the pedestrians, the lights and stop signs you’re blowing through, everything going on outside the car. The bells and sirens in your head are going off all over — ringing out the warnings for you, and you start to shout at the driver; “Slow down!”, “We’re lost — stop and get directions!”, “That’s a stop sign you just blew through”, “PULL OVER!”. But nothing works with our new driver — he knows the way, just trust him, he’ll get us there in one piece, relax. When the cops pull along side (the mainstream media), you hope that they’ll pull the car over — instead, they get out in front and offer a police escort, stopping all traffic in other directions, running lights and signs, and ignoring the speed limits all the way down the highway. If the passengers don’t grab the wheel out of the driver’s hands and start obeying the rules of the road, and get back on the right course, this road trip ends in one of two ways; either a car accident or a breakdown in the middle of nowhere.

Where the people were during Bush/Cheney is irrelevant, they are here now. Where were “the good Germans” during WW2? Where are the “good Muslims” who hate violence and speak out against the fanatics who have commandeered their faith and thrust themselves onto the world stage? If we are not standing up for freedom, than we are complicit in it’s demise!

    Restore Honor. Flip this House.

  58. Dmitry Says:

Ed, brilliant analogy, please allow me to follow-up.

Half of the passengers are trying to get the wheel from the driver due to his MANIC driving style, while the other half deafened and blinded by surrounding cops’ sirens and flashing lights see nothing AT ALL outside of the car. The only thing in their site is INSIDE rearview mirror which adjusted the way to show the passengers cute, eloquent, happily whistling driver-MANIAC so huge that he completely blocks even the windshield. That happy bunch, oblivious to imminent danger, thinks that the “fear-mongers” simply do not see the right reflection in the mirror: those “right wing extremists” see the beloved image as BLACK, that’s the problem.

This is why I say that discussion should be over: we speak about different things. We – about what’s going to happen to the car and all of us. They – about how to better adjust the mirror.

We’ll take over in November and turn the mirror on themselves. If they will not admit that the reflection is quite ugly, maybe we’ll have to send them to Europe for eye-change operation. Greece would be a good starting place.
