With impeachment for accepting a $150,000 bribe and being only the sixth federal judge to be removed from office by the Senate in his past, Misrepresentative Hastings’ statement is a description of what he thinks acceptable. His history is one of disregarding the rules – as in the law – and making up his own. Bribes are illegal? Not according to the rules made up by then-corrupt judge, now-Misrepresentative Alcee Hastings.

It is absolutley laughable that you clodhoppers are trying to justify this man’s blatant contempt for the law by linking it to, of all people, Edison’s efforts to unshackle his inventive genius.

Hastings was saying, in essence: So what if the Constitution is supposed to he the rules which Congress follows? We just make up our own rules as we go, to suit whatever outcome we want. And to hell with the will of the people, and to hell with the law of the land, if either one stands in the way of what I want. That was his judicial “ethic,” and that is his “ethic” as a Misrepresentative.

It sounds like Rep Alcee Hastings and much of our Congress is playing Calvinball. Make up the rules as you go along.

Actually November is not soon enough. I encourage you in his district to call for his resignation NOW. I may even do so; his decision directly affects me even though I am out of district.

Thomas Edison was talking about using his own talent and ingenuity to create something out of nothing.

Hastings is talking about the making of law, the rules by which we live.

My three year old knows the difference between the two. My three year old also knows that there is a difference between choosing to share and having another kid grab something out of your hand because he wants it and is bigger than you.

But this peawit sitting in a race protected congressional district does not know what my three year old knows.

Just the fact that this corrupt POS made it to the Federal bench and was set up and indicted and impeached made for his congressional life of corruption. One can appreciate Representative Hastings’ “nose-to-the-grindstone” work ethic, when you remember that he was indicted for accepting a $150K bribe in 1981 (back when $150K was a lot of money) as a federal judge. Being the 6th federal judge in history to be removed from the bench by the Senate gives him a keen understanding of the flexibility of rules for the purpose of governing. In 2008, according to a story in the Wall Street Journal, he spent $24,000 in taxpayer funds to lease a luxury Lexus hybrid car for himself. Another interesting little fact about “the honorable” Representative Hastings: one of his staffers is his long-time girlfriend (also a disbarred lawyer), whom he pays a salary of $160K annually — with taxpayer money, of course. House rules prohibit hiring spouses or relatives for staff positions, but there is no provision barring unmarried significant others. Think he’ll ever make an honest woman out of her?!
