Graham says he’ll defer $260,795 retirement payday; Richmond faces $354,691 decision
by George Bennett | March 29th, 2010
School board member Bill Graham says he’s running for reelection in 2010 and pledging to serve a full four-year term despite being enrolled in a state retirement plan that will pay him a $260,795 lump sum if he leaves office in January 2012. If he wins, Graham says he’ll defer collecting the lump sum and $3,988-a-month pension.
School board member Sandra Richmond is also up for reelection this year and also enrolled in the same retirement program. She can collect a $354,691 lump sum and begin drawing a $5,480 monthly pension in September 2011 if she’s not on the school board.
Richmond has said in the past she’ll probably run this year, but hasn’t made any formal announcement.
Read about it in this week’s Politics column.

Sorry, that is too much money. These GREEDY people need to retire and let others serve.
There should be term limits on school board members.
Graham was elected in 1986 and Richmond in 1988. It’s time for them make way for others.
The county needs fresh faces, ideas and not what we have been experiencing these past years.
Graham’s arrogance in office has been exhibited with flagrant pontifications on HIS political views DURING school board meetings and workshops.
Teachers, parents VOTE in the primary on August 24, 2010. A candidate that gets 50% plus 1 vote WINS.
OUT of the incumbent school board members.

Wow! How many teachers could they pay with that kind of money. I can remember when it was an honor to serve on the school board and strictly voluntary. Now it has become a cash cow!! Shame on our society!!

How often do they meet for School Board Meetings? Every DAY? MONTH?
It is terrible for them to get that kind of money. I remember when my sons were in school and the classes could not afford PAPER. We the parents donated ost if not all the class room supplies AND to top it all off the TEACHERS could not get a raise.

Just think, these School Board members KNEW of the current legislation in both the Florida Senate (SB-4,SB-6 and SB1902) and House (HB1319, HB1593, HB7189), and had no raise budgeted for teachers this year. That’s right: NO.MONEY.AT.ALL budgeted for teachers. So…let them run….so we can vote them out. And….let’s censure them.

These pensions are 2/3 times what most state government employees with similar education receive. What gives?
