GOP memo reveals campaign strategy to stroke ‘ego-driven donors,’ play up fear card

by Dara Kam | March 3rd, 2010

Put it under the headline “Only in Florida.”

A Republican National Committee memo found in a Boca Grande hotel reveals the GOP’s strategy of using fear to intimidate voters and mocks donors, Politico reported today.

The memo – a Power Point presentation given at an RNC meeting in Florida last month – details the GOP’s plans for this year’s election cycle by luring “ego-driven” rich donors with promises of access and “tchochkes.”

“What can you sell when you do not have the White House, the House, or the Senate…?” it asks.

The answer: “Save the country from trending toward Socialism!”

Read the Politico report here.

The revelations left Democrats licking their chops, naturally.

“If you had any doubt, any doubt whatsoever, that the Republican Party has been taken over by the fear-mongering lunatic fringe, those doubts were erased today,” Democratic National Committee spokesman Brad Woodhouse said in a statement. “The Republican Party, which barely 20 percent of Americans will even admit they belong to anymore, seems hell bent on damaging their battered brand even further by engaging in the most despicable kind of imagery, tactics and rhetoric imaginable. This type of politics at all cost approach to our public discourse is what the American people are sick and tired of – and if anyone thinks this wasn’t approved of or signed off on at the highest levels they are kidding themselves. Republicans across the country have cheered on crowds where these very images appeared, they’ve encouraged and perpetuated scandalous lies about the President and his plans. And, from calling for secession to condoning violence against government officials they have sunk to new and unbelievable lows.”

Never, never, never think that the palm beach post is telling the truth.

  3. tea party rock Says:

PALM BEACH POSTS LIES FRED. FOX NEWS IS the ONLY LEGIT SOURCE out there. They have honest journalists like Beck, Palin, Hannity, Rove, etc. They speak the truth and tell it like it is. I laugh when the LIBS gets all huffy. Everything was fine when GW left the office. Obama has been a nightmare. He can go back to Haiti for all I care.

  4. V Says:

Seeing the reaction to this a a real laugh riot. Yep, the GOP and it’s pundits are honest. LMFAO. Hannity, Beck, Palin, especially Rove and let’s not forget Rush. Honest and straight forward. You betcha; fair and balanced right to the bank.

    You clowns made my day.

  5. tea party rock is an idiot Says:

OMG – I just had one of the best laughs I’ve had in a long time.

In the 7:13 PM comment, tea party rocks says “END GOVERNMENT PROGRAMS” and then in the next sentence says “MAKE MEDICARE and SOCIAL SECURITY STRONGER.”

Hahaha! Medicare and Social Security ARE government programs you idiot!

That might have been the funniest thing ever!

  6. Saint Petersblog Says:

The top secret RNC document found by Politico reveals Bill McCollum is not a top priority for #GOP.

  7. Cynical Idealist Says:

“Tea Party Rock” while the Post IS usually slanted and liberal, I have to ask are you stupid or ignorant?

Medicare and Social Security were both started over the vehement, vituperous protests of the republican party.

Tea Party Rock….hahaha, it’s more like you got rolled by both parties and now can’t figure out where you should bury your head in the sand.

Wow it still amazes me when I hear people talk about fox news like it is real news. If you want real news you need to get it from somewhere that actually does news instead of repeating republican talking points. I just hope somewhere in republican’s minds that this power point that was found might get some brain cells firing and think objectively about what you just read. I’m not saying democrats are the answer but I think republicans are out. We need politicians who care about governing and not winning elections. Plus they really think cutting taxes is the answer to every thing which is just funny when your arguing about bringing down the deficit. I have the same problem with tax cuts as I have with communism, the idea sounds great but you make the same mistake that has been repeated in history a hundred times over and that is relying on individuals to make the right descion. Individuals are fundamentally flawed which is why we govern as a whole.

  9. Silvia Hall Says:

I laugh so hard. Medicare and Social Security are government programs. If Social Security had been privatized, and this is what Bush wanted to do, it would have been a disaster for millions of Americans.

Just keep repeating those talking points. Please do not mention anything about Bush’s tax cuts for the wealthy, the two wars and the expensive Medicare Part D program — all these programs unpaid for.

  10. Vin Says:

No one needs to be encouraged to fear Obama. I still can’t imagine what people were thinking to vote the most liberal senator to a position of authority. Yea, we still have checks and balances, but they are not operating as they should right now. POTUS is shoving his policies down out throats without any pangs of conscience, certainly against the will of the majority. He is more interested in his legacy, than the future of our children. You better wake up and smell the garbage before it’s too late.

  11. Tom Baxter Says:

Obama like Bush is a loyal servant of the banksters, his and Bush’s major contrbutors. No matter how many tenns of trillions it requires, Goldman Sacks & Co and their profits will be protected.

  12. The Die Hard Says:

The teabaggers, the beckazoids and faux spewers, prove that they’re getting more and more irrational and hypocritical (not to mention stupider, if that were possible) every time they take a breath.

And we used to shake our heads in disbelief at AshKKKroft. The quitters and losers wandering the country these days make the guy who draped a statue look almost sane.

President Obama’s only mistake to date has been not to fire every single person hired or promoted under that never-elected and most evil and incompetent regime, the “heck-of-a-jobs” that nearly turned this country into a third-world oligarchy with pretensions of theocracy, from the courts on down.

And he should have turned the war criminals themselves over to the World Court for hanging.

How wonderful it is to be able to be proud of the man in the oval office again! Whenever anyone called that chickcrap George “president,” I would literally get nauseous.

But President Obama can’t fix all the disasters left to him alone, especially not with an obstructionist bunch of whiners in congress. We have to take certain matters into our own hands. Become more self-sufficient, less wasteful. Turn off the reichwingnut spewers. Turn to the overseas news sources for credible international information.

And for your own sake, vote OUT the rest of the repukelicans and phony dems this year. Fresh blood! No special interests, no revolving doors! Pick a REAL progressive, and go door to door.

Like your life depends on it. Because it does.

If the ultra-rich repugnants succeed in scaring their voter base of the ultra-stupid into keeping on voting against themselves, and their own best interests, they’ll take the rest of us down with them.

  13. Ken Says:

Did any of those Fox news “journalists” tell you about the Republican shadow budget? You know, the budget the Republicans would like. Didn’t think so. I’m not gonna tell you about it. If you want to be informed, you can research it yourself. (Hint-it’s not very favorable to SS or medicare)

  14. sharksbreath Says:

I guess you guys didn’t read the article.

    They think your reactionary idiots.

    And they are right.
