Rubio to conservatives in D.C.: I won’t be “co-opted” by big government
by George Bennett | February 18th, 2010And he’s hoping to return to Washington in January as a Republican U.S. Senator.
But Rubio, who has pulled ahead of GOP primary rival Charlie Crist in the polls, will pledge in his speech to thousands of conservative activists that he’ll come to Washington to combat big government and “not be co-opted by it.”
A few advance excerpts of Rubio’s speech after the jump…..
Advance excerpts of Marco Rubio’s speech to the Conservative Political Action Conference:
“I was not born to a wealthy or connected family. And yet, I have never felt or been limited by the circumstances of my birth. I have never once felt like there was something that was not possible for me because of who my parents were, or where they came from. But why is it that I have been able to accomplish many of my dreams, but my grandfather’s dreams never had a chance? The answer is simple. Because I am privileged. The simple privilege of being a citizen of the greatest society in all of human history. There has never been a nation like the United States.”
“As we near the midterm election, what voters are looking for is very clear. They are looking for leaders that understand what is happening, will stand up to it and in its place offer a clear alternative.”
“Twenty-ten will not be just a choice between Republican’s or Democrats. It will not just be a simple choice between liberals and conservatives. It will be a referendum on our nations very identity.”
“People want leaders that will come here to Washington D.C. and stand up to this big government agenda, not be co-opted by it. The Senate already has one Arlen Specter too many. And America already has a Democrat party. It doesn’t need another Democrat party.”

Go Rubio! We are so proud of you! The old guard still don’t know what hit them. Arrogance, corruption, interparty dealings designed for the best interest of annonted ones. The problem for years is the elite ones have though the public was blind and stupid. Many are but many are not! We the people are watching them and even now they are to pig headed to know it. Build more Federal prisons we can fill them with crooked politicians.

Rubio is the Right Man for the job! He will not be bullied into jumping on board with huge tax increases. He is for creating jobs not destroying the economy.

Hey, GS, you better start saving some of that money ole CharLIE and cronies is paying you. Soon you be’s unemployed and by then they won’t be any federal stimulus unemployment money left to go around. Rubio is honest and teabagger’s vote. They are looking for honest people to put in office who will not tax and rob them blind. I guess that leaves out Crist and McCollum, huh!

GS — “tea-baggers” will restore this country, and teach the principles and values that have been lost by both parties.

I hope he is for real, When it comes to politicians, I only believe 10% of what I see them do and nothing of what I hear them say.

The Rubio hype has gotten out of control. Please enlighten me and tell me one groundbreaking thing he did as Speaker of the Florida House. To use a favorite current conservative talking point, young Mr. Rubio was an “empty suit” who accomplished very little as Speaker.
